We couldn't be happier with our experience at this nursery. Our eldest child attended and is now thriving in primary school, and our youngest is currently there and absolutely loves it. The consistency of care over the years has been outstanding.
The staff always look relaxed, confident, and genuinely
happy to be with the children. It's clear they truly love what they do-the way they interact, comfort, and play with the children feels so natural and caring. They cater really well for both of our children's dietary requirements.
Both of our children have built strong bonds with the team, and we've always felt that they are fully seen, understood, and nurtured as individuals. Communication has been great, and every day we see how much thought goes into helping the children learn, explore, and grow.
We're extremely grateful for everything the nursery has given our family and would wholeheartedly recommend.

My son attends Sunhill in the Twinklestars room (after recently graduating from the baby room!). The staff in his room (Laura, Alicia, Ella Victoria and most especially his key worker, Honey) are so kind, warm, loving and professional that I always feel confident he will have a great day with them.
They keep us very well updated throughout the day with photos and little stories of his day and they always have time to chat at the beginning and end of the day. He does loads of creative and fun activities and we are delighted with Sunhill and the whole team.

Best nursery out of 4 we have attended. Large open plan room with sections for different activities. Door leading outside to another play area for fresh air. Friendly loving staff who genuinely loves kids and keeps us well updated via a user friendly app.


For commuters, near Colchester train station

although needs ~20mins to walk there, or 10 minutes by cycling and there is a safe cycling connecting the neighbourhood to the train station.

You know a nursery is doing an amazing job when your two-year-old asks to go to school even on the weekend. From the moment you walk into Sunhill, you can feel the sense of warmth and sense of family. All of the staff are incredibly friendly, caring and supportive. The environment is bright clean and
thoughtfully designed, with a wonderful range of activities that encourage learning through play, creativity and exploration. Communication with parents is excellent, and we always feel informed about our child's progress and daily experiences. We are incredibly grateful for the love, support and dedication shown by the entire team and would recommend his nursery to any family!

Our son is 10 months old and has had Molly as his key worker. The way Molly has helped our son settle in has alleviated all of our concerns about leaving him. The staff are dedicated, caring and understanding. When we leave, he settles within seconds, and the pictures and updates on the app further

We are extremely happy with Sunhill Nursery. My son is always happy to go in. The staff are excellent- incredibly friendly, caring and approachable. Absolutely amazing nursery. My daughter attended a different nursery prior to this one and had a very bad experience so I was surprised when she settled in so quickly. The staff are really friendly, very child focused and are able to effectively put the children at ease. My daughter loves going every
morning and has come on leaps and bounds since being there. They have a really good range of indoor and outdoor activities, the garden space in particular is great. I love that they take the time each day to send photos and a quick update, it's great to see what my little one is doing! I would definitely recommend.

We couldn't have made a better choice than this nursery. Both of my daughters love it, and even before my youngest started, everyone already knew her name, which showed how much care they give each child. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, the garden is big, clean and full of great activities. The
staff are amazing, always caring, and it's clear they are looked after too. The manager isn't just a manager, she truly loves and interacts with the children. I'm so grateful for everything they've done for my girls. This nursery is full of love, kindness and encouragement. Thank you to the whole team for creating a happy place.

Highly recommend Small Friends; both my children went there and they loved it - the staff are wonderful and caring, they host a wide range of activities on a daily basis, they feedback on your child's development progress and support these areas in their learning through play. The facilities are also
very good, and clean, and have a wide variety of toys, games, books, and arts/crafts for the children to enjoy. My youngest is now at school, but she still loves to talk about her time at Small Friends, and the lovely staff!

Amazing nursery! Our son went here aged 2 and has just left to start school, and our youngest has just started. All of the girls are just lovely, they really care about the children and build great connections with them. Our son developed wonderfully there, and they really got him ready to start school.
What I also love is the communication with the management team - they are often the ones letting you in and out of nursery and so are always available for questions etc. Would recommend small friends to everyone!

My daughter attended small friends for a full year before starting reception. Shes always been very reserved in new settings or with new people and I can't praise the staff at Small Friends enough for their patience and assistance in helping my daughter settle and come out of her shell. She's become
so much more confident and has made friends who she's now also has at reception. I also loved how Small friends really takes advantage of their location by providing the children with educational trip to the beach, woods and the local gardens. I especially loved the Christmas nativity at the church. Thank you Small Friends for having such an impact on my daughters early years

Small Friends Day Nursery has been a wonderful nurturing environment fo rmy son for the past two years - with caring staff helping put in the foundations for the person he will become. The nusery makes good use of itslocation for activities - and we loved seeing our son in the nativity play, sports
day and on trips to the beach and nearby parks. He's grown in confidence and has become articulate and curious despite being one of the youngest in his cohort. You should send your child here.

Choosing a nursery is a big decision, especially as new parents, but we know we've made the right choice with Sunhill. Our daughter joined the baby room just before her first birthday and is really thriving thanks to the kind staff and manager, welcoming setting and engaging activities. The meals are
nutritious and varied and it's great to see her enjoying these throughout the day via the app, along with photos of her joining in with the fun activities where she always has a smile on her face, further confirming we've made the best decision. My son started nursery in January and has come on leaps and bounds! Everybody knows him by name and gets visibly excited in the mornings when we reach the nursery gate. That's the most truthful review you will ever receive.

I looked at several settings before choosing Small Friends and it was absolutely the right choice. As a previous Ofsted inspector and headteacher I have high expectations and this nursery meets them all and beyond. The staff are professional but friendly and genuinely care about my son. They are also
supportive of the parents which goes a long way. I know my son is safe, happy and well looked after. The parents evening and feedback via the app also gives me a clear idea of what my son is doing and achieving. I couldn't recommend this nursery more highly - they do a fantastic job and I'm very grateful to them for their hard work and dedication.

Small friends is absolutely amazing, the staff are outstanding I was really worried for my twins as they never been separated from us, but they settled in lovely and have got to know the staff so well, they have adapted really well into nursery setting!
They really gone above and beyond to get things
in place for my child so he can be safe in the setting! The boys are enjoying nursery and I am so glad I have chosen small friends.

The staff are lovely here, they have a great flow/routine to the day. My daughter has recently moved up a room and has settled in really well because of this.
They've been very supportive through the potty training period too, couldn't ask for anything more of them.
My daughter eats and sleeps
well here too which is testament to how well this nursery is run. She is absolutely on cloud 9 after a day at nursery, these are some of the favourite days of her week for sure.

Our son started at Small Friends recently, and we've been so pleased with how well he has settled in. His speech has really come along, and it's lovely to see him making friends and growing in confidence.
The staff are fantastic-they all seem to know him well and genuinely care about his wellbeing.
He's always happy to go in the morning, and he especially enjoys the outings and activities like music and movement.
We're really grateful for the warm and nurturing environment at Small Friends and would happily recommend it to other parents.
