Tynemouth Nursery at Billy Mill is prominently and conveniently located at the end of the Coast Road. In December 2021 the nursery was judged Outstanding by its Ofsted inspection.

The building was originally two substantial semi-detached houses and together now it forms a lovely sized nursery with Tynemouth's unique homely feel.

With fantastic homely rooms and a large outdoor play area Tynemouth Nursery at Billy Mill, recently refurbished and re-equipped in 2020, offers a catalyst of activities to enable children to learn through play and fulfil their full potential.

The nursery is proud to have the prestigious Millie's Mark accreditation awarded in 2018, having this award demonstrates the nursery's commitment to going above and beyond the minimum requirements for keeping children safe. They also got the Portage Stamp of Approval in 2025, a very proud moment for all involved.

All staff working directly with children not only hold a paediatric first aid certificate but are also competent in how to apply this in practice.

A very nurturing and friendly nursery. We felt comfortable leaving our daughter from the very first day as it felt so homely and welcoming. The extra activities, such as football and yoga, are brilliant. She has made incredible friends at nursery and is coming on in leaps and bounds in every way.

We sent our first daughter to Tynemouth Nursery at Billy Mill and found it excellent then. So naturally, we are sending our second daughter and her care has been just as excellent. We love how much like family the staff feel. The facilities are second to none. I feel as though I am able to voice concerns
and worries at any point and to any member of staff and that they are taken seriously. We love Tynemouth Nursery at Billy Mill and are glad it's so close to us.

My son started here in January of this year. He settled in so easily due to the environment and the staff. As a parent, I love the homely environment of the rooms and felt it was better for my son rather than other nurseries. Daily updates on the app show thought-out and planned activities to help him
meet his milestones and the food available is both healthy as well as diverse. I couldn't be happier as a parent for my son to go here. It has allowed me to return to university confidently, knowing he is happy.

Our little boy greatly enjoys his time at nursery. He has developed some amazing relationships with the staff in his room and regularly talks about them when we are at home, including whether he can go at the weekend. We would not hesitate to recommend this nursery to other parents and will be getting

My daughter has flourished since moving nurseries in May. The staff couldn't be kinder and have made the settling in period, easy. My daughter loves her keyworker and has made loads of friends. The extra activities they do are fab too. It really does feel like you join a family when you join Billy Mill.
We have absolutely no regrets about moving here and wouldn't hesitate in recommending to others.

Our daughter has been at the Billy Mill branch of Tynemouth Nursery since January 2022 and we could not be more happy. She settled quickly and supported by the wonderful staff, has progressed really well. We know she is in a safe and supportive environment while we're at work and get regular updates
during the day via the nursery app. She really enjoys her time there and I would not hesitate in recommending this nursery to other parents.

I have two girls who attend Tynemouth Nursery. The care and enjoyment they get from nursery is second to none. The staff are diligent and outstanding in the provision they provide to the children and they always leave with smiles and fun stories from the day. I have two older children who also went
through the nursery. I couldn't imagine sending them anywhere else. The online daily journal is also
an amazing tool to keep up to date with the kids.

Tynemouth Nursery has been fantastic for my son and daughter. My daughter loves the staff and has developed her social skills and confidence through her days there. Andrea McLaughlan

Job Title: Nursery Manager Joined: 2003

Andrea has over 20 years of experience in Childcare (Level 4) and has been a part of the TNG family since 2003, working her way up from a Nursery Nurse to Nursery Manager within her time at Billy Mill.


She is a mother of 3 (all of whom have attended the Nursery setting!).


Andrea is passionate about environmental sustainability and supporting children's learning through natural materials, thus creating a warm home-away-from-home feel.
