Tynemouth Nursery at Billy Mill is prominently and conveniently located at the end of the Coast Road. In December 2021 the nursery was judged Outstanding by its Ofsted inspection.

The building was originally two substantial semi-detached houses and together now it forms a lovely sized nursery with Tynemouth's unique homely feel.

With fantastic homely rooms and a large outdoor play area Tynemouth Nursery at Billy Mill, recently refurbished and re-equipped in 2020, offers a catalyst of activities to enable children to learn through play and fulfil their full potential.

The nursery is proud to have the prestigious Millie's Mark accreditation awarded in 2018, having this award demonstrates the nursery's commitment to going above and beyond the minimum requirements for keeping children safe. They also got the Portage Stamp of Approval in 2025, a very proud moment for all involved.

All staff working directly with children not only hold a paediatric first aid certificate but are also competent in how to apply this in practice.

The staff at Billy Mill are absolutely exceptional! From day one of my son starting they have provided a caring, loving and educational environment where children can thrive. My little boy has come on leaps and bounds and it is clear to see how happy and settled he is. The staff in his room are fantastic
and he is genuinely happy to go. His key worker is brilliant and has taken the time to not only build a relationship with my child but with us as parents too, which makes leaving him that much easier. The entire staff are amazing and I couldn't think of a better nursery.

My child started in September and I could not be anymore happy with the nursery and the staff. They helped her settle in perfectly. They even helped ease me as a parent. The staff are all so welcoming and helpful. I'm so glad I chose this nursery.

My son has been attending Tynemouth Nursery at Billy Mill since April, and I couldn't be happier with the care he receives. From the moment we walk in each morning, his excitement is evident; he truly enjoys his time there. The staff are incredibly attentive and nurturing, making it easy for me to leave
him without worry.
The range of activities offered is impressive, from heartbeeps to various crafts, ensuring that the children are engaged and learning in a fun environment. It's clear that they focus on both educational and creative development, which is something I value highly. And being kept up to date via the app is great.
Overall, I highly recommend Tynemouth Nursery. The loving atmosphere and diverse activities make it a wonderful place for children to grow and thrive.

My daughter has had a wonderful learning experience at Tynemouth Nursery. My daughter spoke of the nursery in glowing terms and always would tell us what she had done each day. She was always excited to go to the nursery both to see her friends and the staff. The staff were always welcoming, approachable
and took excellent care of my daughter. I have seen a change in my daughter in the time she has been at nursery. She is more confident and also able to express herself. Overall, my daughter has had a great learning experience at Tynemouth Nursery and I know that she will miss going.

The staff are all lovely here, everyone always greets my child by name as we come in and always makes time for them. If we ever have any concerns they always take time out to address these with us. My child absolutely loves going to nursery and happy to go to any member of staff which as a parent makes

All staff know my grandson's name and speak to him directly. A wide range of play and learning techniques. Outside Play encouraged daily. Choice provided at all times. Great variety of healthy food choices and meal plan. Encouraged to use utensils effectively. My grandson loves to go to his nursery
and reaches out to staff. I am happy to leave him with such caring staff, knowing he is in a happy and safe environment.

Our daughter has been at Tynemouth Nursery at Billy Mill for the last 9 months. With our first daughter, we used another nursery so have experienced using another provider. I can honestly say there is no comparison! All the staff are super friendly and helpful here. Our daughter runs into the nursery
for cuddles with her favourites! We know she is well-fed and looked after. The daily updates always help too. Thank you all very much!

Amazing staff. Kind helpful and professional. My son has really embraced attending and meeting his milestones and even exceeding them since starting in September. My work is not flexible and could have been very stressful for childcare but the nursery has been amazing, especially the manager. I also
want to mention two ladies with whom my son has built an amazing therapeutic relationship, in which has helped him settle in and supported him with the transition from home to nursery.

The most amazing nursery in the area, with super friendly and supportive staff, an amazing system for messaging and seeing updates on your child and so many activities and crafts done in the nursery. I couldn’t recommend this nursery enough they’ve had my daughter from 8 months old and she loves going.

My boys attend Billy Mill. I have to send a review for the stay-and-play that nursery ladies have set up for the children and parents of children with special needs. A brilliant session for the children and parents. Being a parent of a child with special needs can be a lonely place at times. All the
parents are in the same boat and the children can be themselves. They both work so hard and the stay and play show the dedication they have, so the families of special needs children can come together. Sharing ideas and experiences with one another. The children loved it being in their safe place and with their support workers. They put loads of thought into the toys being sensory orientated and snacks being what the children like. They are thoughtful, experienced staff, that go and beyond for the children and their families that attend the nursery. They will always hold a special place in mine and children’s hearts.

Eldest daughter has attended since she was 1 and we are so happy with Tynemouth Nursery at Billy Mill. Staff are friendly and caring and the children learn so much because of the great things they do with them. Youngest daughter will be starting soon as we wouldn't choose any other nursery.

Billy Mill have accommodated my son with open arms. He has special needs and his behaviour can be challenging but they worked with him so positively. Experience of other nursery settings where his needs weren’t being met, it was a worry hoping it wouldn’t happen again. But they’ve built a positive relationship
with him, supporting his needs and his challenges. They’ve brought out the best him in and we can see he thrives within the setting. He loves coming to nursery and engaging with both his peers and staff alike. I couldn’t have asked for a better educational setting for him. Thanks for making your nursery inclusive for all children.

Absolutely wonderful nursery. Wouldn't dream of sending my children anywhere else. It is a real home-from-home environment with amazing staff who genuinely care for the children. Our son always comes back from nursery with a big smile on his face having had a good time. The staff are friendly and always helpful, providing reviews of how the days have gone, but also insight into the development and learning aspect, which is amazing for us to hear.
Our son also has a food intolerance,
which is managed amazingly by the staff, helping to diversify the types of foods he will eat.
With another child on the way, we will not hesitate to get them a spot here, and would highly recommend this nursery to any other parent!

Andrea McLaughlan

Job Title: Nursery Manager Joined: 2003

Andrea has over 20 years of experience in Childcare (Level 4) and has been a part of the TNG family since 2003, working her way up from a Nursery Nurse to Nursery Manager within her time at Billy Mill.


She is a mother of 3 (all of whom have attended the Nursery setting!).


Andrea is passionate about environmental sustainability and supporting children's learning through natural materials, thus creating a warm home-away-from-home feel.
