Tynemouth Nursery at Billy Mill is prominently and conveniently located at the end of the Coast Road. In December 2021 the nursery was judged Outstanding by its Ofsted inspection.

The building was originally two substantial semi-detached houses and together now it forms a lovely sized nursery with Tynemouth's unique homely feel.

With fantastic homely rooms and a large outdoor play area Tynemouth Nursery at Billy Mill, recently refurbished and re-equipped in 2020, offers a catalyst of activities to enable children to learn through play and fulfil their full potential.

The nursery is proud to have the prestigious Millie's Mark accreditation awarded in 2018, having this award demonstrates the nursery's commitment to going above and beyond the minimum requirements for keeping children safe. They also got the Portage Stamp of Approval in 2025, a very proud moment for all involved.

All staff working directly with children not only hold a paediatric first aid certificate but are also competent in how to apply this in practice.

Cannot thank the staff enough for what they do for both our children. The nursery is well equipped for the children to play safely and learn both inside and outside with lots of consistent activities each week. All staff there have a fantastic ethic and approach to each child. They genuinely care for
each child individually. As parents, we have total peace of mind knowing our children are left in such a nurturing environment. Never have my children ever had a negative reaction to going to nursery which speaks volumes to me as a mother. My eldest always has a brilliant day and has built great friendships with the children there. Both kids are developing beautifully and I truly believe it’s in part to the fantastic support and exposure they get at Billy Mill. We get daily detailed diaries of how their days have gone and up-to-date new observations. The nursery is fully flexible with my shift patterns too and really work with you to accommodate the childcare you need. Truly deserve their outstanding award.

Our daughter has been going to this nursery for around 6 months now and she loves it. I can’t thank the nursery enough for their support in her development. Before sending our daughter here, we visited a lot of other nurseries in the area but didn’t feel as comfortable and welcome as we did with this
nursery.

Lovely nursery. Both my children attended here, my daughter still goes. The staff are brilliant and the nursery manager is always so accommodating with any requests. Couldn’t have wished for a better nursery.

Billy Mill is the perfect nursery for my son, they're just what I was looking for. When I collect him and the staff tell me about his day I can tell they know his personality very well, the feedback isn't generic like it tends to be at other nurseries. My son is eager to go back as soon as we leave
and I am so happy to have found such a lovely, friendly nursery, the staff are wonderful!

My son has been at this nursery for 2 months now and in these 2 months, he has learnt so many new skills. He is talking more, socialising with children more and overall much more confident. I always get full feedback on his day and the child diary on the app is a lovely insight into what he is doing,
while I work. Every nursery worker is friendly and approachable.

Our son has only been attending Tynemouth nursery for a short period of time, but he has come on in great leaps and bounds since he has been attending. They totally get him and how to handle him as he is on the pathway for Autism and is non-verbal. Every day he comes home happy and having done something
new, which at his previous nursery didn’t happen. They talk with great pride and enthusiasm about our son when we come to pick him up at home time. The nursery makes my partner and myself feel totally involved with his learning, which we take home with us and continue at home. He is learning to use PEC cards with them and this has helped him tremendously at nursery and home. They have had such an impact on him our only regret is that we didn’t bring him to Tynemouth Nursery sooner.

My daughters love coming to nursery, they come home with so many stories about different activities they’ve done throughout the day. They do so many different things that no two days are the same for them and they learn so much. The staff are super friendly and get to know each child and their interests.
I’ve had all 3 of my children attend this nursery over the years and would always recommend them. I never have to worry because I know my girls are safe and happy when they are there.

I am so happy with the experience my little girl is getting at Tynemouth nursery, at Billy Mill. She is always really excited to tell me what they've been doing each day. The staff are all lovely to speak to and give you all the information you need. My daughter obviously thinks very highly of them
too. You're kept well up to date about what your child has been learning and what they've had to eat. The menu sounds amazing and me and my partner often joke about wanting to attend so we can get the dinners ourselves! During the February half term, they had an amazing programme of extra activities including visitors and trips out. These also tied into the topic they'd been learning about before the holidays. Thoroughly satisfied with the whole experience.

We have had both children go through this Nursery - and we could not recommend them enough! They have gone from strength to strength over the last couple of years - our son adores the fact that they have football trainers come in and talks about it every time they have been in. The staff are amazing
and have built great relationships with the children. The flexibility that the nursery offers was the main reason that we chose the nursery, as it was the only nursery who offered us this. However, we are so glad for this because we wouldn’t change, ever!

I have found Tynemouth nursery at Billy Mill to be absolutely excellent. I get updates with what my daughter has being doing through the parent admin app, there are regular child observations against different developmental milestones, she has made lots of new friends and her development has been outstanding.

My daughter loves going to nursery here and I could not be happier with the service that the nursery provides. The staff are a credit to the nursery, they have fantastic relationships with the children and plan a brilliant range of activities to support their development. The staff are extremely knowledgable

Excellent staff. My daughter has downs syndrome and is still unable to talk. The staff have gone above and beyond to make sure she can communicate, teaching her and her classmates some Makaton. She loves when we pull up and she sees the nursery which was the most lovely feeling as a mum, knowing you're
leaving your child somewhere they want to be and where you know they are taken care of very well. I honestly cannot recommend this nursery enough. The staff are outstanding and very loving towards the children and do a fantastic job.

Andrea McLaughlan

Job Title: Nursery Manager Joined: 2003

Andrea has over 20 years of experience in Childcare (Level 4) and has been a part of the TNG family since 2003, working her way up from a Nursery Nurse to Nursery Manager within her time at Billy Mill.


She is a mother of 3 (all of whom have attended the Nursery setting!).


Andrea is passionate about environmental sustainability and supporting children's learning through natural materials, thus creating a warm home-away-from-home feel.
