This is the second of my children who has gone to Children 1st @ Derby Road and I have absolute confidence that the staff take care of my child as well as I would at home. They keep parents well informed of progress and issues and share nice photos! Thank you very much for all you do.

We have 3 boys currently under the care of Children 1st @ Derby Road. 2 in after school care and one who attends 3 full days week. We have been using the nursery for many years now and would recommend it to anyone, the staff are fantastic and the range of activities is great. Our youngest has numerous
food allergies and the nursery cook is a genius about adapting the food for him to not only have nutritional meals but also feel included with his peers whilst procedures keep him safe from accidentally ingesting any allergens. We've dealt with many members of staff over the years who have all been caring, attentive and professional. There is clearly a good culture instilled from management for this to be the case over so many staff members. All of the recent Covid related safeguarding measures are a comfort too.

My daughter loves going to nursery. She learns so much and amazes me with the things that she comes out with when she comes home. The staff are all lovely, and I am very happy/confident to leave my daughter in their care.

My daughter absolutely loves Children 1st @ Derby Road Nursery, especially her key person. After nearly a whole year off, on maternity leave, I have recently returned to work (during these crazy 2020 times!). To know that my child is well cared for and super happy makes me one 'very grateful' mummy
and very relieved! Thank you!

Fantastic facilities, lots of activities for multiple age groups and very understanding and experienced staff. My little girl is usually shy but as soon as she saw all the things she could do she soon came out of her shell. They also put my mind at ease and think she'll thrive there.

Couldn't have chosen a better nursery for my children. All the staff have been really helpful and supportive throughout. I can't thank the room leader in early years enough, she's been a huge part of both my son's nursery life and has made sure they're well looked after and supported throughout. Thank
you all so much!

Our family have been using this nursery since 2015 when our eldest started as a 10 month old. I would not hesitate to recommend to anyone. You can tell that the staff really care for all the children, they always take the time to let you know what they have been up to. Their days are structured with
a variety of fun learning activities, plenty of outdoor space and a fantastic menu.
Unfortunately, our eldest son suffered from several medical issues whilst at nursery age. The entire team took this in their stride and were clearly very well trained. We will always be grateful to management and the entire team for their support through these times and we always felt confident leaving our son in their care.

I am very happy with the care my daughter receives at Children 1st @ Derby Road. All of the staff are very approachable, friendly and accommodating to my requests. My daughter is struggling with her development slightly but the nursery have identified this promptly and she is receiving additional
help from them and all staff show a genuine interest in her progress. My daughter always seems to enjoy her sessions and her keyworkers have formed a lovely bond with her. Overall I could not recommend them highly enough.

Our little boy started here in July this year and he is absolutely loving it; he goes off every morning with a smile. We get regular updates through the eyLog app and a daily review of his day in his nursery book, which is fab! It’s so nice to see him developing and the activities he does at nursery
are great- both fun and educational. The staff are great, so helpful and friendly. Couldn't recommend them enough!

Where to start, I have got two children who attend the setting, 5years and 20 months, both attended since they were 6 months old.
From the amazing staff team, to the fantastic care/resources and opportunities they offer I couldn't recommend them enough. The love and kindness you feel as soon as you
enter, you can tell it's going to be a magical journey.
I felt instantly re-assured as a parent, the support and guidance you get (even if you feel its a silly question) is so comforting, you know you're not alone, and the chances are they have been there as well, with their own children.
Thank you all, money can't buy the above, we are lucky to have you.

Very happy with the after school club my child attends. I’m confident she is safe when picked up from school and she undertakes a good range of activities whilst she is there and it’s good to know she’s had her dinner so she’s set for the rest of the evening.

Baby is loving nursery, we get regular updates through EYLOG app, in her nursery diary and face-to-face at the end of the day. She is clearly given fantastic care and opportunities to try different activities while there. She always goes in happily and comes out smiling!
Nursery have happily accommodated
our use of reusable nappies which we were so pleased with.
In terms of COVID, measures have been taken to keep everyone safe at pick up and drop off and I feel very confident that my baby is in a safe, loving environment!
Thank you.

We have sent our daughter to Children 1st @ Derby Road since she was 10 months and I cannot fault the nursery whatsoever. Our daughter has developed amazingly and all the staff there have contributed to that. During the covid-19 pandemic, the nursery have been so professional and taken all the necessary
steps to ensure the children and staff are as safe as they possibly could be. After 4 months of not going to nursery during lockdown, my daughter didn’t even turn around when I dropped her off on her first day back - this just proved to me how excited she was to go back and how comfortable she felt going, even after that length of time away. They have also kept us up to date throughout the whole of the pandemic and made sure we knew what was happening at all times. I can’t recommend enough!

My little boy has been attending Children 1st @ Derby Road since March 2020 and I could not be happier with the experience that we have had with them. He attended throughout lockdown and the way they have handled the whole COVID situation and the communication they have with us regarding it has been
absolutely brilliant.
My little boy absolutely loves nursery and all the different activities he does there and since starting there he has come on leaps and bounds with his development. When we drop him off in the morning he doesn’t even say bye, just runs straight in! As a parent it makes me feel so reassured that he enjoys it so much and this is testament to the amazing staff.

All staff at nursery are amazing, always greeted with a smile through such tough times. I feel great knowing that my little one is being looked after by such knowledgeable and enthusiastic staff, making sure that she is cared for and she has learnt so much throughout her time at nursery.
The manager
and her team have made sure that the nursery has run smoothly and kept to the safety guidelines throughout this pandemic.
Well done to all staff!

Current Review Score: 9.9 (9.897)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.9 (9.897) out of 10 for Children 1st Derby Road Nursery School is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 44 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 44 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Day Nursery is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.897 for Children 1st Derby Road Nursery School is calculated as follows: ( (477 Excellents x 5) + (44 Goods x 4) + (5 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 526 Ratings = 4.897
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Children 1st Derby Road Nursery School is based on 44 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the number of registered child places in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Day Nursery registered for a maximum of 50 child places has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 143 number of registered child places is 28.6, which has been reached with 44 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Day Nursery does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Nursery Manager Joined: 1995

My name is Kate Horsley and I am the Derby Road Nursery Manager. I have worked for the company for just over 29 years. I started in 1995 when I joined as a trainee nursery nurse. Over the years I completed my NVQ level 3 and then went on to do senior, deputy and management training. I am also the Nursery SENCO.

I have worked in several other Children's 1st Nurseries and have been set many challenges and given many opportunities to develop myself, constantly learning new things along the way.

As well as working full-time and running a thriving nursery I am also a full-time mum to 3 young children. Amelia is 18, Alfie is 14 and Arthur is 10 years old All of my children attend a Children's 1st Nursery and Out of School setting and love their time in them. I leave them feeling confident that the care they will get is as good as what I can provide for them.

I have only ever worked for Children 1st after joining when I left School. There has never been a reason for me to look elsewhere. I have always been more than satisfied with my own professional development and very happy in my job. I look forward to growing further within Children 1st and learning new skills which will help my team and I “Lead the Way & Shape the Future”
