My son has been attending this nursery for the past 18 months and has progressed through three different rooms during that time. The development we've seen in him since he started has been incredible, and he truly loves being there.

The staff are warm, friendly, and always approachable. They're happy

to answer any questions and consistently provide a wide range of fun and engaging activities for the children.

Although my son still finds drop-offs a little difficult at times, the team are always there to support him and help make the transition as smooth as possible. It's reassuring to see that this is gradually improving.

I especially appreciate the regular updates we receive about his day, along with photos. It gives me real peace of mind knowing that he's happy and well cared for while I'm at work. Fantastic experience so far, thank you!

Our daughter has been at this nursery for 15 months now and she loves it. We've felt so supported by the team throughout the different stages of her development (e.g. learning to eat meals/ potty training etc). Every room has a fantastic team who really get to know your child. The management team are
wonderful and very quick to respond to any questions. Highly recommend. Our daughter loves her nursery days and as parents we feel relaxed and happy that she is in such a safe and nurturing environment.

My daughter has been coming here since she was about 1 and half years old.
The teachers and staff are lovely and are very patient with her and her needs.
She has come on in leaps and bounds with speech, walking and interacting with other children. The staff and teachers are very friendly and always
there to help with me and my daughter with any difficulties that we may come across.
Best nursery by far 5 star from me thank you for all your support and still continuing.
Very clean nursery. And variety of foods for all the children to try. Great outdoor space with loads of things for the children to do.
Thank you to everyone of you very happy

I love this nursery I have recommended this nursery to many of my friends. When me and my husband reviewed this nursery we felt like it was a homely environment for our daughter. She has moved up three rooms and each one has shown to put each child at the centre of what they do. Her development has
come on leaps and bounds.

My child has been at this nursery since she was 10 months old and I couldn't ask for any better carers for them. The staff are wonderfully attentive and you are kept up to date with their activities during the day.
They do lots of varied activities, which you can see are helping setting them up for
what's next.
The site itself is a house, which especially in the baby room gives the feeling of a family home. The outside spaces are great with a wide range of play equipment and plenty of room for them to run around.
We continue to believe this is the best place for our child to continue to develop.

My daughter has been there 1.5 years and I cannot fault any of the staff.
Her key worker is absolutely incredible and puts my mind at ease with daily photo updates.

My daughter has additional needs and can sometimes need extra support,
Children 1st have adapted in every way to support her and I couldn't

be happier with how far she's coming on.

Great staff, great nursery.

My little boy (2 years) started here in January, and I could not recommend it highly enough for him. He has grown in confidence and curiosity, and the feedback from staff makes me feel so secure.
The staff are lovely, friendly and approachable, and I feel that they have made a real effort to get to
know my son.
Any questions I have are answered quickly and the responses are always reassuring.
A massive thanks to the team!

We couldn't be happier with the care our daughter receives at this nursery. From the moment we first visited, the staff made us feel completely welcome and reassured. Every member of the team is kind, patient, and genuinely passionate about what they do.
Our daughter absolutely loves going and has
grown so much in confidence, independence, and social skills since starting. The activities are always creative and engaging, and it's clear that a lot of thought goes into supporting each child's development while making learning fun.
Communication with parents is excellent, and it's so lovely seeing updates and photos of what the children have been doing throughout the day. It gives us real peace of mind knowing she is in such a safe, nurturing, and happy environment.
A huge thank you to all the wonderful staff for the amazing job you do. We feel incredibly lucky to have found such a fantastic nursery and would highly recommend it to any parent looking for a caring, supportive nursery

Excellent communication between room leaders, staff and us as parents. Our child has clearly advanced with her speech and language skills alongside her independence because of the nursery. They helped us with toilet training and that eased a lot of stress for us as parents. Our child also is very stimulated
in her room because of the variety of activities she takes part in.

My son has been attending this setting for nearly 2 years now.

Pros:
-Communicating and involving parents (stay and plays, sending a photo everyday, printing photos I send, updating menus etc)
-All staff are friendly and know my son by name (including cooks and admin)
-Acting upon concerns (my son

was not being settled during drop off but this changed)
- Outdoor access when downstairs
- Activities covering EYFS downstairs.

Cons:
-Toilet facilities (too big for my son, dont flush, and soap is often not available)
-There are often people in the room who must be staff but I dont know who they are and they do not wear the uniform.
- I dont know what his goal are.
- They dont have the menu on the app anymore.

No setting is perfect but the most important thing is that they listen and act upon the concerns and wants of the parents tailoring the care and education to meet the individual needs of each child which is what they strive to do.

Overview of Review Score

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 44 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 44 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Day Nursery is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.897 for Children 1st Derby Road Nursery School is calculated as follows: ( (477 Excellents x 5) + (44 Goods x 4) + (5 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 526 Ratings = 4.897
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Children 1st Derby Road Nursery School is based on 44 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the number of registered child places in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Day Nursery registered for a maximum of 50 child places has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 143 number of registered child places is 28.6, which has been reached with 44 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Day Nursery does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Nursery Manager Joined: 1995

My name is Kate Horsley and I am the Derby Road Nursery Manager. I have worked for the company for just over 29 years. I started in 1995 when I joined as a trainee nursery nurse. Over the years I completed my NVQ level 3 and then went on to do senior, deputy and management training. I am also the Nursery SENCO.

I have worked in several other Children's 1st Nurseries and have been set many challenges and given many opportunities to develop myself, constantly learning new things along the way.

As well as working full-time and running a thriving nursery I am also a full-time mum to 3 young children. Amelia is 18, Alfie is 14 and Arthur is 10 years old All of my children attend a Children's 1st Nursery and Out of School setting and love their time in them. I leave them feeling confident that the care they will get is as good as what I can provide for them.

I have only ever worked for Children 1st after joining when I left School. There has never been a reason for me to look elsewhere. I have always been more than satisfied with my own professional development and very happy in my job. I look forward to growing further within Children 1st and learning new skills which will help my team and I “Lead the Way & Shape the Future”
