Children 1st Derby Road Nursery School is situated within walking distance of Long Eaton town centre. It is easily accessible from the train station and bus routes. The nursery has been refurbished throughout to offer spacious and bright learning areas for babies, toddlers, pre-school children and for those in 'out of school' club aged up to twelve years.

The nursery has split the age-appropriate rooms over two levels and are uniquely designed to stimulate and inspire young children’s minds.

A team of dedicated staff ensure the children’s needs are nurtured in a home-from-home environment. Each staff member believes in strong parent partnerships in order to deliver seamless care.

The staff are fully trained and are supported by a designated early years practitioner to deliver the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework.

The nursery features an extensive garden area which has been designed to maximise the potential for outdoor play, with carefully chosen, age-specific equipment.

My little one is such a headache to me, she won't go to anyone else. I was restless for two years before I took my little one here. Children's 1st really created a miracle to make my little one stay happy. She is such an alert baby. She must have felt secure and loved in here! Really appreciate Children's
1st and highly recommend it to parents.

A lovely nursery with lovely staff. My daughter enjoys going to nursery, she’s always made relationships with staff and key workers showing their level of care and love for her. My daughter has gained excellent social skills and is learning new things all the time! Her baby sister will be starting nursery
soon, and I know she will have as much fun as her big sister did throughout the nursery!
I must say my daughter always tells me about her dinner when I collect her too! She loves her meals provided by the lovely cook ??

My son has been here since he was 6 months old. Being an only child and me a first time Mum they are always very supportive. My son has grown to be great with others (well most the time). They always update me on the good and bad. The staff are friendly and loving. You see where all your payments go.
Freshly cooked meals, excellent play areas and learning plans. I’m going to be very sad when he has to leave. I know my child is getting the beat care when he is not with me.

My partner and I have been extremely impressed with the quality of staff and facilities at Children 1st @ Derby Road since our daughter started attending a year ago and is now attending full time. We have also recommended Children 1st @ Derby Road to at least two other couples in the area who now have
their children attending. We have found all members of staff to be courteous, professional and always make time to give feedback on our daughters day and always make our daughter feel special. We will definitely continue to recommend their services.

As a parent, I have been extremely satisfied with this nursery. The staff do a fantastic job and my children enjoy going here. Developmentally, my two children have come on leaps and bounds since starting at Children's 1st @ Derby Road. The staff are approachable, caring and they take a personal interest
in each individual child.
Making the decision to utilize the services of a nursery is not an easy one, however, Children's 1st @ Derby Road have made this step incredibly easy for us. I have always felt happy to leave my children here and I know they are well looked after and have exposure to lots of different educational and fun activities. They have both made friends and their social skills have certainly developed since associating at nursery with their peers.
The quality of the food is also extremely high, I can rest safe in the knowledge that my children are being fed healthy food every day and enjoying a wide variety of foods.
100% I would recommend this place to friends and family, in fact, I have!

Children 1st @ Derby Road is an amazing nursery which my son, now 4, has attended since he was 8 months old. Throughout this time they have provided a safe and caring environment whilst helping him make friends, have fun, learn and feel loved. I am due to return to work in May following maternity leave
for my second little boy who without a doubt will also attend Children 1st @ Derby Road.

My son has been cared for full time at the nursery since he was 12 weeks old. He has recently gone up a room and love it. He is learning new skills and progressing with his independence. He loves sitting at the big table (which is still small) with his friends eating or doing activities. Staff are all
loving and caring and really know the children they look after. I have no worries or concerns when I leave my child as all the staff love him like he was their own. The management team are helpful and approachable and it is nice to see that their own children attend the nursery too. I had used the company 11 years ago for my middle child and I was surprised to see some of the same faces when I went to enrol my son. This shows that they are happy in their job and that the company looks after and nurtures staff. The main aspect I like is that ALL staff are qualified or working towards qualifications as I visited other nurseries who do not take this stance on child care.

Leaving your baby when you have to return to work is a daunting prospect but everyone at Children first were supportive and welcoming. From the moment we looked round we felt reassured by how happy the children appreared to be and how caring the staff were. Staff in the baby room are patient and always
cheerful. Even on days when my baby has felt under the weather I have felt confident to leave her in their care because I know that they give her plenty of attention and cuddles! The staff are always feeding back to us about how our baby is doing and what she has been up to so you don’t feel like you are missing out too much.

At 18 months, my daughter started attending nursery and the staff were brilliant on the introductory days in helping to settle her. Childrens 1st @ Derby Road is very helpful and treat every child the same there is no favouritism. The staff are amazing and will help with anything you ask. It is by far one of the best nurseries I've been to.
Would highly recommend to family and friends looking at nurseries in this area.

We really like how the baby room (Puddle Ducks) and Bobtails work together helping the transition between the rooms. The teams across these rooms are really good and there's some nice familiarity there whilst transitioning, but also day to day after that as well. Derby Road has a lovely feel about it
and I wouldn't want to move my child. From reception through to the staff that prepare the meals, there's a friendly welcome even on the busiest of days. Nursery was the best choice for our child and their development. Our child isn't full time but the time they're there it's made a clear difference to their development, which is wonderful to see.

My daughter has been attending Children 1st since she was two years old and now goes to the after-school club. She always takes part in lots of arranged arts and crafts and has strong relationships with certain members of staff. I would recommend to anyone as even when I have any area of concern, it
has always been dealt with in a professional manner. The food is nutritious and staff monitor what they eat. Overall I rate the place as excellent and believe the manager runs a very tight ship.

Our second child is now attending the nursery on Derby Road in Long Eaton.
From the first day of our first child attending to the current day with our second, the team are outstanding.
Our two boys have come on so much since they have been attending the nursery.
The staff always keep you up to date
with what your child is doing on a day to day basis.
I would happily recommend this nursery to anybody thinking of taking their children here.
If myself and my wife have any more children, then I can assure you they will be attending this nursery.

My daughter started at Derby Road at 8 months old. As I work in education, I had high expectations of what I wanted for my daughter. Children 1st ticked all the boxes. Safeguarding is outstanding- I know my child is left in a safe environment with a key member of staff who has supported both myself
and my daughter in her transition to nursery - friendly welcoming staff -managers who know each and every individual child and are approachable.
The setting also spends their profits in benefitting the nursery by purchasing new up to date equipment, expanding areas and keeping the place fresh. I know my child is happy here as she is excited to see the staff in a morning and comes home having lots of fun! There is regular communication and the assessment tool is amazing - it really helped me to feel happy my child was settled in nursery as I could see photographic evidence of her interacting and playing in the setting.

All staff are fantastic. My daughter started 3 weeks ago and I was so nervous about leaving her and returning back to work, but all the girls in the baby room put me at ease and I felt comfortable enough to leave her and not worry too much! She absolutely loves coming and it's nice to see her so relaxed

Since starting the nursery only a few short months ago, my two daughters have settled into the routine and the surroundings of the nursery well. Staff have made excellent impressions on my two girls and they have both returned home with positive recollections of attending the setting. My youngest daughter
has excelled developmentally, learning to write her name and making new friends after the upheaval of only moving childcare settings six months ago. The staff make the children feel welcome and my eldest daughter is always excited for out of school club.


I feel safe in the knowledge that my children are secure, well cared for and with trusted staff whilst I am at work or university. The staff have been more than accommodating with a rather fast transfer from one childcare provider to another and the children come home happy, well fed and full of enthusiasm.


I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Breedon House to family and friends, or return to Breedon House should my family grow again.

Kate Horsley

Job Title: Nursery Manager Joined: 1995

My name is Kate Horsley and I am the Derby Road Nursery Manager. I have worked for the company for just over 29 years. I started in 1995 when I joined as a trainee nursery nurse. Over the years I completed my NVQ level 3 and then went on to do senior, deputy and management training. I am also the Nursery SENCO.


I have worked in several other Children's 1st Nurseries and have been set many challenges and given many opportunities to develop myself, constantly learning new things along the way.


As well as working full-time and running a thriving nursery I am also a full-time mum to 3 young children. Amelia is 18, Alfie is 14 and Arthur is 10 years old All of my children attend a Children's 1st Nursery and Out of School setting and love their time in them. I leave them feeling confident that the care they will get is as good as what I can provide for them.


I have only ever worked for Children 1st after joining when I left School. There has never been a reason for me to look elsewhere. I have always been more than satisfied with my own professional development and very happy in my job. I look forward to growing further within Children 1st and learning new skills which will help my team and I “Lead the Way & Shape the Future”
