A BRIGHT AND SPACIOUS NURSERY IN CATERHAM

Caterham The Laurels Day Nursery and Preschool is designed to support your child’s development, from the age of 3 months to 5 years.

They make use of the ample space at the nursery by creating separate indoor activity areas. This includes a Creative Cooks section, ICT suite and an ‘area of interest’. The theme of this area, designed to engage children in new ideas based on their interests, is chosen by a rotating preschool committee made of four children.

Alongside the curriculum, an enriching Ready for School programme gives every child the opportunity to gain knowledge and confidence to thrive in school and beyond.

The nursery in Caterham has an expansive garden. Children can choose to play in the mud kitchen or settle down in the summer months with a book in the outdoor learning library. They even have a separate area for the use of bikes, scooters and tricycles.

The Caterham nursery is situated in a leafy residential area, directly opposite Town End Recreation Ground where they take the children in Summer. They have a parent drop-off zone and parking facilities for your convenience, and a twenty-minute walk from Caterham Station.

My daughter goes here and loves it. Like most children, at times she can get a little clingy, but they completely understand this and make that process so easy for me to walk away at drop off, feeling like she is in great hands. She absolutely loves all the staff and they constantly keep me well informed
about her day. Couldn't be happier with this nursery and her class, sunflowers. She doesn't have favourites as such, as she is very happy with everyone, however, she always has an extra big smile for one member of staff in particular.

Our youngest has recently joined The Laurels and we already have a 4 year old there, who has been attending since he was 1. All the staff are very friendly and welcoming, they all seem to know my children's names even if they aren't their key person. They take care of them as their own. I was a little
nervous when my 6 month old started, but immediately I could see how settled he was. With the new app I can see when they've slept, what they've had to eat and photos, it's great! The nursery does it all, no need to leave nappies, bottles etc, they provides everything. I'm very pleased with the nursery and with my children's development.

My daughter started the nursery in July and she has settled in so well, the nursery are very supportive and her speech had improved immensely.
I was worried as she was in process of toilet training not only did they accept this (unlike some nurseries) within literally a week she was able to go to nursery
without wearing a pull up which has been a great change she is more confident and I'm very grateful. The facilities are good especially the garden area it’s very clean and welcoming. The app is great to see photos of your child during the day and what they have eaten. Staff are very friendly and easy to talk to if you need them. Thank you

We have two children at the nursery and couldn’t be happier. Our little lockdown baby started recently and we were worried about him settling having not been to many places, but in all honestly, it couldn’t have gone better. The staff kept us updated on him constantly and they genuinely care about the
children that are obvious. So he’s been very much enjoying the cuddles. Our biggest is in preschool and absolutely loves it. We have had pretty much the same ladies follow her right the way through from the baby room and they couldn’t be more lovely. I think they enjoy watching them grow and develop just as much as we do which is so nice to see.

Our son has been at the Laurels two days a week since he was 10 months old and we are really happy with the quality of care the nursery provides. The staff really seem to know our son and we receive regular updates via the new app on what he’s been eating, his naps etc. He is really settled there and
looks forward to his nursery days, talking lots about his friends and all the fun things they’ve been doing! The staff are always organising new and fun learning play activities for the kids (it’s currently science month!) which focus on key developmental skills, and they enjoy lots of garden time which is brilliant. The team have managed Covid and lockdown measures brilliantly which has been really reassuring. Overall we are really happy with the Laurels and would highly recommend it to any parents in the area!

The staff are very caring and we feel safe and content leaving our daughter at The Laurels. They do a lot of fun and varied activities and try to spend as much time outside as possible which is great. Our daughter is always smiling when we pick her up and her face lights up when she sees her favourite
members of staff in the morning. We love hearing about her day and how she is building friendships with other children at such a young age. We’re very happy with our choice of nursery!

The thing that makes The Laurels special is the staff. They are exceptional. They care for each and every child according to their own needs. They are kind, fun, firm when needed but most of all loving.
Both my boys have been to this nursery and my second is there now despite his brother going to
school in the opposite direction. It’s very inconvenient but I do it anyway as he loves the people and they adore him.
Every single member of staff knows every child’s name. They greet them in the morning. Chat to them in the corridors. They talk to them like little humans in their own right and not extensions of the fee-paying parents. The facilities are fantastic. The garden is lovely. Not enormous but in great condition and big enough for babies and toddlers. Each room has been refurbished with its own toilet facilities. Toys are replaced and updated regularly. The food is fresh, healthy and well received. But it’s the people that make it. If I had my way they’d all get a bonus.

After a rocky start with bringing our boys to a new nursery (due to a location move), they have now both settled in well and are happy at the end of the day when we pick them up. I have been very impressed with their learning and development in the past 4/5 months. The staff in the rooms are always
very friendly, caring and helpful and take time to explain what the boys have been up to each day.
The nursery management have worked hard to overcome the high staff turnover in 2018 and as a result, have made the children feel much more settled.
The management let you know each day what staff will be working in each room so it makes you feel more relaxed as a parent knowing who exactly will be looking after your children for the day.
There are some great members of staff at The Laurels who are amazing with the children (and parents) and are a real asset to the nursery.
P.S. The deputy manager should have her profile and picture on the Day Nurseries website as she is also fabulous!

Both my boys go to this nursery and absolutely love it! My eldest has been going for over 2 years and always has so much fun. Every morning he asks me if its time to go to 'school' yet. He is learning so much. The teachers are fantastic and always have monthly themes such as space/planets, learning
about the lifecycle of the butterfly etc. He is even teaching me things! The environment is very stimulating but at the same time, the kids get a chance to also focus on activities they enjoy doing such as writing, or painting, or just having free play.


My youngest is in the baby room and is doing so well. Since he started 4 months ago, he has developed so much and the room staff are so caring and give him so much love and attention. I never have to worry about him which is very reassuring as he is so little.


I would highly recommend this nursery. All the staff are so professional and friendly and make my kids feel like the most important child there. They are brilliant!

I was recommended this nursery by a friend and I am so pleased they told me about it. I visited a few nurseries but I found this one to be the cleanest, friendliest and the children were the happiest at any of the nurseries I'd visited. What I also loved was, come rain or shine, the children always
went out in the garden for fresh air which I feel is very important.
My two children go here and they love it. The staff are friendly and efficient and it feels like a big family. I trust everyone there to do what’s best for my children and I highly recommend this nursery to anyone thinking of sending their children here.

My daughter joined The Laurels in January at 18 months old. She took a while to settle as she's only been cared for by me. Staff were very good at giving me updates and getting to know my daughter. She now loves nursery and walks in smiling which is such a relief. My daughter's speech and learning
has come a long way in the 4 months she's been attending. I'm glad I chose this nursery and would recommend it to any parents looking for childcare.

Since the start of 2018, the nursery has had a very high staff turnover. The remaining members of staff do their utmost to maintain stability for the children, however, the lack of communication from management reduces our confidence of the care provided for our children.
The management have done
nothing to communicate learning members of staff who have always been the centre of the nursery and increasingly see nursery agents who seem to have little care and attention for our children.
The Managers are fully aware of the dissatisfaction of parents but have chosen not to be proactive. As a result, I am looking to move my children elsewhere.

The nursery is very good. Staff are dedicated but there is a very big turnover of staff but perhaps that's normal in the industry. Since the upgrade of the nursery, the facilities are very good. The addition of toilets in each room is excellent.
My only slight concern is that grouping the 3 and 4-year-olds
together mean the 4-year-old don't really get the preschool experience.

It's our fourth year at the nursery. My son loves it! Staff are so unbelievably caring and loving. Our son is planning his time at the nursery after he goes to reception. There is nothing I could fault. We sad it's our last year.

Leanne has worked in childcare since 2000 and has had the pleasure of collaborating with some outstanding practitioners. Through their guidance, she has grown in their understanding of child development and how children's minds work and process information.


She joined Bright Horizons in 2016, with a nursery change in 2020 that brought them to Caterham The Laurels. Her passion lies in supporting the staff to provide the best possible care for the children they are fortunate enough to look after. What excites her the most about her work in childcare is seeing the children flourish, from sharing many of their firsts as babies to proudly talking about their transitions to school.
