A BRIGHT AND SPACIOUS NURSERY IN CATERHAM

Caterham The Laurels Day Nursery and Preschool is designed to support your child’s development, from the age of 3 months to 5 years.

They make use of the ample space at the nursery by creating separate indoor activity areas. This includes a Creative Cooks section, ICT suite and an ‘area of interest’. The theme of this area, designed to engage children in new ideas based on their interests, is chosen by a rotating preschool committee made of four children.

Alongside the curriculum, an enriching Ready for School programme gives every child the opportunity to gain knowledge and confidence to thrive in school and beyond.

The nursery in Caterham has an expansive garden. Children can choose to play in the mud kitchen or settle down in the summer months with a book in the outdoor learning library. They even have a separate area for the use of bikes, scooters and tricycles.

The Caterham nursery is situated in a leafy residential area, directly opposite Town End Recreation Ground where they take the children in Summer. They have a parent drop-off zone and parking facilities for your convenience, and a twenty-minute walk from Caterham Station.

Our experience of the nursery has been excellent from day one (October 2023). It can be a daunting experience, first finding a suitable nursery and then feeling comfortable leaving your child on a daily basis but from day one, the team have alleviated any concerns we had.
Our daughter looks forward
to nursery and has built a lovely bond with the staff and her classroom team to the point where they feel part of the family.
I can't praise the team enough for the effort and love that they put in on a daily basis.
My daughter has developed significantly since day one as a result of the support from the team - whether that be socially or developmentally. She's always stimulated with numerous activities with learning and development clearly a focus. The app provides excellent updates on a regular basis (activities undertaken, photos, themes for the week, developmental feedback etc.)
I would definitely recommend this nursery and have actually referred three friends as a result.

I've been so impressed with the staff, the communication and the wonderful support for the children settling in.

It's genuinely a wonderful nursery. My daughter has always absolutely loved the staff and the activities. They do so many additional bits that make the experience so over and beyond, such as the family wall where they print pictures of the child's family and laminate it so they can flick through that
alongside birthday cards, paintings etc. They always update the app which always reassures us and the food is incredible.
We actually moved house about six months ago and have chosen to travel half an hour each way instead of moving to a new nursery.

Staff have always been welcoming and helpful. Management is spot-on and lovely and room staff are always providing excellent care. Initially, I was sceptical, as all parents, however they proved I can trust them and I know I can leave my child there and she will be looked after and I don't have to worry.
The communication is great and I don't have an issue to complain about.

What an amazing nursery. The nursery staff are all caring and understand my child. The environment is great my little one is always happy and engaged when I arrive to collect.
I have had nothing but kind interactions with the management team, they are knowledgeable, and although office-based I know
they care about my child. They welcome us in every morning with a smile and welcoming feel. Questions are answered and they have helped me to understand the fees and funding. In fact, with their help, I have now signed up for something that saves me money.
My child is happy. development and I know she is safe.

Please listen to the comments that talk about rude staff - I wish I did before we had this horrible experience with them.
We found the manager and staff to be extremely rude. My nephew attended 3 days as backup care and on several occasions and by different staff members we noted that the staff is
extremely rude and so unwelcoming. On the last day, one of the staff members put her hands in front of my sister’s face and screamed saying: “I don't know you, please step back'... even though her child was there for the whole day - how inconsiderate and disrespectful for a parent trying to pick up a child after a long day of work. My sister was shaking from this treatment. Never again with this rude unprofessional nursery! I would not trust my child with them!

We are very pleased at how happy our baby is there and how well he is growing and developing. The staff have been amazing at getting him settled in as this is all new to us. The facilities have been great at helping our baby to grow and develop his physical and social skills.

This is my second experience using this lovely local nursery! My eldest attended a few years ago and the wonderful experience we’ve once again experienced for my 1-year-old. We even had the same key person that supported my eldest now welcome my youngest which is so special and testament to the family
feel at this setting (meaning the staff love it here too) The activities my little one is experiencing is fantastic and communication daily via the parent app is so helpful in terms of live updates throughout the day so I can easily check in on her day. Management always strives to keep open channels of communication which really supports building parent partnerships and gives that strong sense of trust. I would highly recommend this nursery

I sent my first son to this nursery and didn’t think twice about sending my youngest. What was important to me is that all the staff are near enough the same. Our two children attend The Laurels. Our daughter has been there for three years and our son for one year. We couldn’t be happier with our choice and both children are happy and thriving under the care of the fantastic team, who genuinely care for their wellbeing and development. The variety of activities
and learning opportunities can be seen through the app and also the pictures, cards and crafts that they regularly bring home. We love seeing the updates. The attention to the individual children’s needs is amazing and the staff are always on hand to discuss any specific queries and offer advice, it really is a team effort. What makes The Laurels really special, is the smiles on the children’s faces and their love of attending. It's one less worry, knowing they are safe, happy and learning in a nurturing caring environment.

After seven years of dropping my children at The Laurels, I'll really miss it when my youngest starts school in September. Both my kids have been very well looked after here. The staff really care about the children. My daughter loves her key worker, like family and they have the most lovely, affectionate
relationship. The current management team has been in place for about three years or so and is doing a great job. Communication is very good, thanks to an app, where staff also share photos of your child's day. Things are well organised and the managers are very friendly and accommodating. All the staff know all the children's names. The nursery is kept clean. The food is excellent, varied and adventurous. School dinners are quite a shock after this! The staff prepare interesting activities for the children to do and there is a focus on learning in preschool, but not in a pressured way. Drop-off at the door has worked wonders for children going in happily and not clinging/crying.

My little boy really enjoys coming to this nursery. He skips inside and comes out with a smile on his face afterwards. He talks so fondly of the staff, so I know he enjoys spending time with them and feels safe and secure there. I can’t comment on everything below (food, equipment, ICT, cleanliness)
because I haven’t been in the nursery for a long time because of Covid rules. I know that there is a focus on learning and on occasion I have asked for an update on where my child is at with his learning and they have shared his learning journals with me. It would be good to get more regular updates on these as a matter of course, rather than on request. I would like to know what the staff are focusing on with my child, as I could then mirror this at home. I do believe this is in the process of happening though and I think they will be uploaded on the online portal. I love the way the staff come to the door and greet the children in the morning. They are always smiling and welcoming.

We’re so happy with The Laurels and feel so confident, dropping our little girl there every day. In the last month, there has been a shift in management, illness and staffing issues and the acting manager has handled it all remarkably. She communicates with us all and is always smiling, even on the
hardest of days. She’s doing such an amazing job since being on her own! Another special thank you, to two members of staff in particular, in the Tulip room, who treat our little girl like one of their own. She loves coming to nursery and it’s all down to them. Thank you so much, for all you do!

This nursery setting is lovely, and it doesn’t seem to matter what room your child is in, they all are wonderful. My son has just changed rooms and the care taken with the transition, has been great. He has adapted so well. The nursery went above and beyond to ensure I was made aware of exactly what

This nursery is amazing. The staff are lovely and they really care about your child and help them to develop. Nothing is too much hassle including eczema creams, helping with wearing of glasses, potty training, diet restrictions etc. My children love going and ask me every morning if it’s nursery time
yet! They are excited to go and always come out happy and with lots of paintings or drawings. The app is also good to see their activities and how much fun they’re having.

Both my children have attended this nursery over the past five years, from baby room to graduation. The staff are wonderful, the skills my children have learnt are invaluable and my girls love it there. I couldn't recommend it enough. In fact, I have recommended it and now my nephew and my friend's

I would highly recommend The Laurels Nursery, as the staff there are doing a great job. Also, the app is so useful for parents, so they can check the daily activities their child participates in, the amount of meals they eat etc.

Leanne has worked in childcare since 2000 and has had the pleasure of collaborating with some outstanding practitioners. Through their guidance, she has grown in their understanding of child development and how children's minds work and process information.


She joined Bright Horizons in 2016, with a nursery change in 2020 that brought them to Caterham The Laurels. Her passion lies in supporting the staff to provide the best possible care for the children they are fortunate enough to look after. What excites her the most about her work in childcare is seeing the children flourish, from sharing many of their firsts as babies to proudly talking about their transitions to school.
