Sandfield Day Nursery is large purpose built day nursery with caring and dedicated staff, situated in the grounds of the John Radcliffe Hospital to care for the children of the Trust employees and local community. They have also obtained their Green Flag Eco-Schools Award.

Friendly and well established, the nursery provides a happy, sociable environment where every child is treated as an individual. The nursery has rooms for each individual age group with a specialist baby unit and spacious gardens that provide an excellent outdoor environment.

I have one child in Ladybird 1. The staff are amazing and very sweet with him. I am very impressed by how much they know him and care.


I have one child in Preschool. he learns a lot of things and is getting very independent which is great as he will soon go to school.

My daughter has been in the nursery since she was 5 months old so she has been in all rooms. All staff in each room were amazing, very supportive and approachable. My daughter absolutely adores going to the nursery. Facilities are very good, staff very well trained and aware of each child's needs.

Our daughter attended the nursery for 2 years, until moving to her new school, and was very happy there. Lovely facilities, great outdoor area and fantastic staff. Rooms are warm and inviting with lots on display. Lots of activities to keep the children busy and entertained!

I could not recommend Sandfield Day Nursery more highly. Our son started there when he was 7 months old and from day one, we have been so impressed by the warm, caring, imaginative and professional approach from everyone at the nursery. He is now 22 months and can't wait to get to nursery in the morning
and start playing! He has formed a real bond with the staff in the rooms, particularly his amazing key worker and this has made us feel that he really benefits from his nursery time and is in a secure and supportive environment.
Activities are varied, educational and fun and he is continually learning new skills. Food is fresh and nutritious and there is plenty of opportunity to play outside, even when the weather is a bit grey. Communication is always excellent and we are kept regularly updated as to his progress and what he's been up to. He has particularly enjoyed the recent Christmas activities and festivities. Thank you Sandfield!

We had an excellent experience of Sandfield with both of our daughters. They were well looked after and thrived socially and personally through their interactions with staff, children and all sorts of activities. They enjoyed outdoor play in a fun, safe space and were exposed to lots of books, songs
and games that appealed to their imaginations.
Working at the hospital the location suited me perfectly for drop-offs and pickups.

I highly recommend this nursery for many reasons. The primary reason is that when my daughter first started at nursery, I was so nervous that she would not get along and settle, but it is obvious that she is treated amazingly with so much love and care. It makes my life so much easier knowing that
she is going to a place with so much kindness, fun and one-on-one attention. My daughter suffered a febrile convulsion whilst at nursery and the nursery staff were amazing, they applied their first aid knowledge and immediately called an ambulance, without their support I would have fallen apart. The food supplied is lovely and my daughter really enjoys it. Overall, I am very happy to leave my daughter in their care.

My daughter and son were at Sandfield for just under a year, in the Bumblebees and Caterpillar rooms. This was their very first nursery experience, and they had such a positive experience - evident in how easily they are now settling in at their new nursery, our family having recently moved to a different
county. The staff truly are a credit, and the nursery space is bright, happy and welcoming. We have only fond memories of our time at Sandfield and thank the wonderful staff for going above and beyond to nurture and care for our babies, who have developed into such confident, able little children. I have no hesitation in recommending Sandfield to any prospective parents.

I have been really pleased with the care my son has received during his time at Sandfield. In both rooms he has been in, the staff have been friendly, approachable and genuine in their care towards him and myself when I have needed reassurance or had any worries about my son. There has always been a

We have had experience of Sandfields over the last five years, with my son and daughter moving through nearly all the rooms there. We cannot praise them highly enough and are all very sad to be leaving as we are moving abroad. The team there are fantastic, they always welcome you with a smile and all
members of staff are polite and greet you when you see them. Our kids loved it there and developed excellent rapport with all members of staff. They both thrived at Sandfields and the excellent pre-school team even taught my daughter to read. I have two children currently in Preschool at Sandfield. They began in Ladybirds and have moved up through Butterflies to Preschool. Both of my children have thrived at Sandfield. Every member of the team at Sandfield has been great and welcoming. My children love attending Sandfield and love the people
who work there. In each room they’ve been in, they’ve learned new things and been very encouraged to develop new skills. I know they’ll be sad when they move on to reception and leave Sandfield behind. As parents, we also love Sandfield and have always felt safe and secure sending our children there. Overall, I would highly, highly recommend Sandfield to anyone.

I have two children at Sandfield, both whom started at just under nine months old in the Caterpillar room and straight away I could tell the staff had my children's best interests at heart. They made both me and my partner feel at ease and comfortable leaving our children for the first time. Now, almost
two years since my son started, they have transitioned through two rooms already and every room has been the same - outstanding care and attention to my children's needs. Both of my children have made immense progress since joining Sandfield nursery and love the staff and the environment. They are always excited to come to nursery in the mornings! We would like to say a big thank you to the manager and to other ladies in particular who have looked after both of our children and also the fabulous management team who are always on hand to deal with any queries we may have!

My son has just left the nursery to now attend a local preschool, however, both myself and husband would like to express how impressed we were of every aspect within Sandfield.
He was there for 2 years and in this time developed in every way, I would like to say thank you to all the staff who encouraged
and supported along the way.


We would defiantly recommend the nursery.

It has been nice to come to Sandfield Day Nursery every morning, seeing that kids feel happy there. The friendly personnel create a welcoming atmosphere, starting with a warm and personal greeting, and continuing with a caring and encouraging attitude throughout the day. very friendly staff, very good communication with parents. My daughter is a fussy eater with food allergy and she was happily having at least 2 meals over there and being offer substitutes. My daughter was very happy over there and will miss this place after being there nearly 2 years.

My granddaughter leaves soon after 3 years of tender care. While there have been nervous in her home life, the nursery has been a calm and consistent place. Her mum can work as she always knows she was not only safe but cared for.l The staff and children show kindness and affection to each other. Lovely
to see her development - so much work in observations. Very professional but always kindly.

Sandfield is an excellent nursery which I wouldn't hesitate to recommend. The staff were wonderful at helping my son settle in when he first joined over a year ago. This was the third nursery he had been to due to my job changing and by far the best and where he has been happiest. The ladies in his
room are so cheerful and caring. They always make us feel welcome and nothing is too much trouble. The nursery is ideally placed for those working at the John Radcliffe Hospital with very convenient opening hours (7 am to 6.30pm) and lives up to its excellent reputation amongst staff.

Job Title: Nursery Manager Joined: 1995

Kim is the Manager of Sandfield Day Nursery in Headington and has a wealth of experience, having worked in the early years sector for 30 years. Kim has an NVQ Level 3 and 4 in Management and has worked for Childbase Partnership for 25 years.


What is your favourite feature of Sandfield?
My favourite feature of the nursery is our large age-appropriate garden which contains many features designed to nurture the imagination. All age groups have daily access to the area and also use it for eco-activities such as insect observations and vegetable planting.


What are you most proud of about your nursery/team?
I am most proud of the team's dedication.
