My son has just began nursery and we have had a month of settling in. We had tears and distress at first but I am amazed at how quickly he has settled in. He now doesn't notice when I leave and laughs and giggles when he gets home.

Very happy there. Food is plentiful and varied, and well balanced. Many happy changes in day and helpful to know know what he's eaten and pooped and what he's been up to during the day. We get photos, reports of favourite activities, cards, pictures which makes the experience of leaving him absolutely fine. A lovely group of girls looking after him with respect and fun.

I have heard recommendation from many mums I met - I came by myself and I found the staff are friendly and very welcoming. I can feel how they are nice to my son from his reaction when he sees them. Also my son has improved since he joined the nursery and that is very clear. I can say its a very clean environment and I saw how they prepare the food. I think my son is lucky to join such a nursery. All the best.

My daughter started in early September and was very unsure, the staff were fantastic when it came to settling her in which really helped my anxiety. We looked at a lot of nurseries before we chose Sandfield day nursery - we're just so pleased we kept looking!

The facilities and space are great, as are the staff - we love the weekly comms around what the children are doing the following week and have been doing that week and the daily view of naps/food etc.

Overall we're just so pleased with this nursery, as is our daughter - we'd highly recommend it.

I had an extremely unsatisfactory experience with this nursery. We were placed on a waiting list and promised a place on a set date, but it took four months after the set date for our daughter to get a place. We also had a very bad incident involving a member of staff and had to pull our daughter out after only one day. Oxford is a multicultural city but I do not believe this childcare provider is able to effectively support children of diverse backgrounds. We were refunded our fees and deposit but I would not recommend this nursery to anyone following our family's poor experience.

Reply from Kim Hambridge, Nursery Manager at Sandfield Day Nursery (Oxford)

At different times of the year we do have up to four months waiting list for places at the nursery. Our initial offer of a start date can be subject to change as leave dates and the plans of existing parents are also subject to change. Our commitment has to be to the child already in nursery;...

My twin daughters were at Sandfield Nursery for 4 years. They really enjoyed their time at the nursery and we were very happy with the care they received. The staff were very caring and the activities they did with our daughters taught them a lot, while being fun and engaging. Our daughters left the nursery recently to start school. It has been an easy transition for them which I am sure is in large part due to the excellent care and preparation they had at Sandfield.

My son (18 months) has recently moved up to a new class which he found quite unsettling, however the staff made sure he went through the process as easy as possible by offering to send up his previous carers if needed so he felt some familiarity. This was very comforting to hear as a parent. In addition to this we always find all staff very friendly, always saying hello and making you feel welcome. They often stay over their shift hours to continue chatting to us about our child's day at nursery, if we arrive to collect our son as they are finishing the day.

I cannot recommend this nursery highly enough. My son has been at the nursery for over two years after a very bad start with another nursery! Sandfield is the only place he has settled very quickly and this is down to the exceptional professionalism and caring nature of the staff and the stimulating environment (not to mention the amazing garden).

Genuinely all the staff are great, but the key workers (assigned to my son) really did take the time to get to know him and build strong relationships to help him grow, develop and feel safe and secure.

I really want to thank Sandfield for making my sons time at your nursery such an enjoyable (and developmental experience). They also saved my sanity by allowing me to leave my precious bundle in an environment where we felt very confident in the care he was receiving. I honestly cannot recommend this nursery highly enough.

Overall Experience

Our three-year old twins have really enjoyed their two-and-a-bit years at Sandfield and we could not have wished for a more positive start to their nursery/school life. They have been very happy and settled, and we feel incredibly lucky that they have been so well cared for by such kind, experienced and professional staff in such a warm and child-friendly environment. The facilities are great – bright, spacious, inviting rooms and a fabulous outdoor space – and the food is fantastic, too. At every stage, we feel that staff have really taken time to get to know our children's individual personalities, as well as respecting their relationship as twins. The reception staff, kitchen staff and management all know the individual children too, and are always friendly, polite and professional – you really get the feeling that individual staff members are part of a cohesive team that works well together. We would have no hesitation in recommending Sandfield to others (and frequently do!).
