Sandfield Day Nursery is large purpose built day nursery with caring and dedicated staff, situated in the grounds of the John Radcliffe Hospital to care for the children of the Trust employees and local community. They have also obtained their Green Flag Eco-Schools Award.

Friendly and well established, the nursery provides a happy, sociable environment where every child is treated as an individual. The nursery has rooms for each individual age group with a specialist baby unit and spacious gardens that provide an excellent outdoor environment.

I had an extremely unsatisfactory experience with this nursery. We were placed on a waiting list and promised a place on a set date, but it took four months after the set date for our daughter to get a place. We also had a very bad incident involving a member of staff and had to pull our daughter out
after only one day. Oxford is a multicultural city but I do not believe this childcare provider is able to effectively support children of diverse backgrounds. We were refunded our fees and deposit but I would not recommend this nursery to anyone following our family's poor experience.

My twin daughters were at Sandfield Nursery for 4 years. They really enjoyed their time at the nursery and we were very happy with the care they received. The staff were very caring and the activities they did with our daughters taught them a lot, while being fun and engaging. Our daughters left the
nursery recently to start school. It has been an easy transition for them which I am sure is in large part due to the excellent care and preparation they had at Sandfield.

My son (18 months) has recently moved up to a new class which he found quite unsettling, however the staff made sure he went through the process as easy as possible by offering to send up his previous carers if needed so he felt some familiarity. This was very comforting to hear as a parent. In addition
to this we always find all staff very friendly, always saying hello and making you feel welcome. They often stay over their shift hours to continue chatting to us about our child's day at nursery, if we arrive to collect our son as they are finishing the day.

I cannot recommend this nursery highly enough. My son has been at the nursery for over two years after a very bad start with another nursery! Sandfield is the only place he has settled very quickly and this is down to the exceptional professionalism and caring nature of the staff and the stimulating
environment (not to mention the amazing garden).


Genuinely all the staff are great, but the key workers (assigned to my son) really did take the time to get to know him and build strong relationships to help him grow, develop and feel safe and secure.


I really want to thank Sandfield for making my sons time at your nursery such an enjoyable (and developmental experience). They also saved my sanity by allowing me to leave my precious bundle in an environment where we felt very confident in the care he was receiving. I honestly cannot recommend this nursery highly enough.

Our three-year old twins have really enjoyed their two-and-a-bit years at Sandfield and we could not have wished for a more positive start to their nursery/school life. They have been very happy and settled, and we feel incredibly lucky that they have been so well cared for by such kind, experienced
and professional staff in such a warm and child-friendly environment. The facilities are great – bright, spacious, inviting rooms and a fabulous outdoor space – and the food is fantastic, too. At every stage, we feel that staff have really taken time to get to know our children's individual personalities, as well as respecting their relationship as twins. The reception staff, kitchen staff and management all know the individual children too, and are always friendly, polite and professional – you really get the feeling that individual staff members are part of a cohesive team that works well together. We would have no hesitation in recommending Sandfield to others (and frequently do!).

Kim is the Manager of Sandfield Day Nursery in Headington and has a wealth of experience, having worked in the early years sector for 30 years. Kim has an NVQ Level 3 and 4 in Management and has worked for Childbase Partnership for 25 years.


What is your favourite feature of Sandfield?
My favourite feature of the nursery is our large age-appropriate garden which contains many features designed to nurture the imagination. All age groups have daily access to the area and also use it for eco-activities such as insect observations and vegetable planting.


What are you most proud of about your nursery/team?
I am most proud of the team's dedication.
