Acorn at Westcroft is a nursery in the Westcroft retail district, offering a spacious and well-equipped range of rooms for children to play and explore.

There are four small, outdoor play areas and in keeping with Acorn's strong emphasis on outdoor play and learning, the nursery has its own Forest School site at the nearby Howe Park Wood.

The nursery has a full-time cook and all meals and snacks are freshly prepared on site. The experienced and well qualified staff team are very warm and welcoming and look forward to showing prospective parents around the nursery.

The nursery offers Forest School sessions that take place weekly for older children as well as many planned events throughout the year such as; sports days, graduations, messy stay and plays and cultural themed days. The nursery is also passionate about getting involved with the local community, regularly visiting a group of elderly people at the Shenley Parish Council building nearby; hosting visits from the fire brigade, police, dentist and vets and arranging days where parents can get involved in nursery life through reading, cooking, show and tell and joining the nursery for forest school sessions.

A home visit from the nursery manager and your child’s key person is offered to all new families as children benefit from meeting their key person in a familiar environment, before attending the nursery for settling-in sessions.

  • Fees are inclusive of all meals, snacks, drinks (including approved formula milk), nappies and activities.
    We do not charge registration fees, only a £100 deposit which is refunded against the first month’s fees. We don’t charge for settling in sessions, but we do expect payment for all nursery fees to be paid up front at the beginning of each month, which is standard practice for all childcare providers. We do not charge for bank holidays, our four training days each year, or for the three days closure between Christmas and New Year. We do, however, charge for days children don’t attend through illness or holidays, apart from exceptional circumstances.

My daughter has been going to the nursery for nearly a year and a half and she absolutely loves it. All the staff are fantastic and very helpful. She has blossomed since starting last year and her English has improved dramatically. I would definitely recommend this nursery to all parents, who would
like their children to get their hands on various activities from arts and crafts, reading, outdoor activities to messy play, all the things children love.

Acorn nursery is an all-rounder in all fields. Nursery staff are very humble and helpful. This nursery also organises different events related to children and they try to develop all aspects of the children.

Absolutely the best decision to move my daughter into Acorn from another nursery. She has been there nearly 18 months and in this time she has developed fantastic relationships with the staff and other children. I love the emphasis on outdoor play and other activities that allow her to get out and integrate
with the real world. The nursery has really helped to prepare her for school in September. Special mention to all the ladies in her room, they go above and beyond to ensure the children are safe and have an enjoyable time whilst being there.

Since my daughter started at Acorns in January, she has thrived and grown in confidence. Her verbal and interaction skills have come on also due to the teachers taking the time to encourage her. All the carers are lovely and my daughter gets excited every morning. She gets to go to Acorns. Thank you

As grandparents, it was a privilege to be included in our grandson's Christmas activities. We attended the Christmas Fair all the staff were present on a Saturday morning! All so kind and obviously well liked by the children (Well organised too!) We also attended a Christmas Play. The dedication and
efforts made by the staff were evident. We felt welcome and very comfortable in such a pleasant atmosphere.

I want to thank Senior Manager of this great nursery, who, along with the Deputy Manager and the teachers helped my child to integrate so fast in just 2 months, by speaking with her, both in English and her mother tongue and also they were next to us for different issues, regarding the baby. My baby
girl (3 years) is very happy there and every morning she goes to nursery with happy face and leaves the same.
The staff is great and as long as my baby is happy, I am too!

The staff do an amazing job at stimulating children with different activities every day.
The updates on the app on my son's development are very specific and provide a great indication of where he is.
The informativeness of staff changes is highly valued and great to keep parents engaged.
The images
and videos of what is done on the app is a great way to see what my son is doing and what activities they are partaking in.
The app is an amazing tool for parents to get info on our son. Great, especially as Nanny picks up so I can check before she collects him and notify her on everything that he has done that day, i.e. naps and nappies.
Staff are excellent at distracting my son if he is ever clingy at drop off.
Staff speak so kindly and friendly to my son. Their compassion and affection always shine through.
The ad-hoc events (Halloween crafts) are great with including my son, even if it's on days he isn't usually enrolled for.

My son has been going to that nursery for a year and 3 months and now that he is in the Squirrels room, I have the feeling he really likes it and enjoys his days. The staff is making a real effort in creating play opportunities and encouraging the kids to try out new things (which was the same in Acorns
room). I really appreciate the day summaries and pictures that are now implemented through the app.


However, I would wish a bit more care is taken to change my son's dribble bib which is often soaked when I pick him up despite me providing plenty of spares. Also, I would like to see the Acorns room shoe - free and carpeted as it is rough on non-walkers when lots of little shoes are trampling their fingers.


Thirdly and most importantly, I would like to see a better system in place that enables me to book extra sessions, especially during school holidays. I am feeling as if it is an inconvenience to arrange, so there should be clear rules on whether or not it is possible and how to book it.

My daughter has been at Acorn Westcroft since July 2015 and her last day was 30/08/18. We LOVE this nursery, the staff have always been so lovely to my daughter and have helped and encouraged her so much over her time with you. Since the new manager has come on board I’ve noticed some fabulous changes,
most importantly for me the daily updates I got on what the room had been up to and the pictures of my daughter enjoying her day. This nursery was already a fabulous place and we’ve always recommended it and will continue to do so. I feel since the new management appointment that Acorn will go from strength to strength and be outstanding. Thank you for everything that you have done for my daughter, we will always be indebted to the fantastic staff!

Since starting nursery in February I have been happy with the nursery.
The recent changes to the outside space of Acorns have been very positive and the children always look like they are enjoying themselves. I hope the indoor space will also see further improvement, in particular, I would like to
see more colour and new toys as some are looking a little tired/well used.

My daughter really enjoys her time at the nursery. She's made friends well and is always happy when she is there. The staff are all very friendly and as my son when to the same nursery, I had no hesitation in sending my daughter as well. There are many toys to play with to keep her occupied and the
