Acorn at Westcroft is a nursery in the Westcroft retail district, offering a spacious and well-equipped range of rooms for children to play and explore.

There are four small, outdoor play areas and in keeping with Acorn's strong emphasis on outdoor play and learning, the nursery has its own Forest School site at the nearby Howe Park Wood.

The nursery has a full-time cook and all meals and snacks are freshly prepared on site. The experienced and well qualified staff team are very warm and welcoming and look forward to showing prospective parents around the nursery.

The nursery offers Forest School sessions that take place weekly for older children as well as many planned events throughout the year such as; sports days, graduations, messy stay and plays and cultural themed days. The nursery is also passionate about getting involved with the local community, regularly visiting a group of elderly people at the Shenley Parish Council building nearby; hosting visits from the fire brigade, police, dentist and vets and arranging days where parents can get involved in nursery life through reading, cooking, show and tell and joining the nursery for forest school sessions.

A home visit from the nursery manager and your child’s key person is offered to all new families as children benefit from meeting their key person in a familiar environment, before attending the nursery for settling-in sessions.

  • Fees are inclusive of all meals, snacks, drinks (including approved formula milk), nappies and activities.
    We do not charge registration fees, only a £100 deposit which is refunded against the first month’s fees. We don’t charge for settling in sessions, but we do expect payment for all nursery fees to be paid up front at the beginning of each month, which is standard practice for all childcare providers. We do not charge for bank holidays, our four training days each year, or for the three days closure between Christmas and New Year. We do, however, charge for days children don’t attend through illness or holidays, apart from exceptional circumstances.

We are continually impressed with the nursery. Acorns at Westcroft has been such a good environment to nurture our son's development.

I cannot praise this nursery enough! My child has special educational needs (SEN), and from the very beginning, the staff have been incredibly supportive, understanding, and proactive. They've not only taken the time to get to know my child and his needs but have also gone above and beyond to make changes
and accommodations to help him feel comfortable and included.


The staff are amazing - patient, caring, and always ready to offer advice and guidance. They've made what could have been a very stressful experience feel positive and reassuring. The environment is warm, welcoming, and truly nurturing.


It's such a relief as a parent to know your child is in a place where they are valued and supported. I'm so grateful for everything the team has done and continues to do for us. I highly recommend this nursery to any parent, especially those with children who may need a bit of extra support.

My daughter and I started in september and we are more than happy here. The staff have made my little girls transition from her old nursery to here very smooth and she comes home happy everyday. They always listen to what me and her dad have put in place and always follow our rules. My little girl loves
it here and i can see that on her face when she gets excited to see the staff when we come in. They help with her development everyday and always have positive things to say. Thank you to you all for making us feel so welcome!!!

Our daughter transitioned to Oaks and the staff made it seamless annd easy for her . Her vocabulary is better and so is her social skills .

A brilliant nursery that always has time to listen. My daughter always enjoys all of the activities the nursery provides, from forest school to yoga. The nursery practitioners always have the time to tell me how her day has been and update me on all of the fun things she has been up to.
I especially
enjoy keeping up to date on her progress on the app. Keeping track of what she's eaten and how much, what she's done for the day and what development she's made
The nursery is on the pricier side but you get so much more than what you pay for

Our child's only been going for a month so far and we're already very impressed by Acorn Westcroft. The staff have been absolutely brilliant - always so kind, reassuring and genuinely helpful. They've gone above and beyond to make sure all of our child's needs are met, which has made such a difference
to us as parents.


Every day is filled with a wide variety of activities, and it's clear how much fun he has while he's there. We've really noticed his progress since joining, both in confidence and development. It's such a comfort to know he's in such a caring, supportive environment.


We're so grateful to the whole team, but especially to Lauren, Eleanor and Courtney, for the wonderful care they provide!

We are so happy with the nursery. My child started when he was 17 months old, and it was his very first experience in a nursery setting. His key person went above and beyond to support him through the transition. She was consistently warm and attentive, always ready with a comforting cuddle. She made
a genuine effort to connect with him by learning a few words in his first languages. When she found out we use British Sign Language at home, she began incorporating signs into their interactions at nursery as well.


I also really appreciate that there's a new activity for the children each day. The nursery's direct access to the garden means the children spend lots of time outdoors, which is wonderful.


The management and front office team have always been welcoming and helpful. I especially valued the home visit before the first settling-in - it made a real difference and helped us all feel at ease.


Everything from start to finish has been smooth and supportive - highly recommend!

We've had a fantastic experience with the team at Acorn Westcroft. The management and front office staff have been incredibly welcoming, caring, and professional-this really came through in every interaction, from our initial enquiry to onboarding. What stood out most for us was the home visit, which
was such a thoughtful touch and really helped our little one build early trust with the staff. Everything has been smooth and reassuring from start to finish. Highly recommend!

My son has been attending Acorn since he turned 2. He is now 4. And he has grown and thrived there. He loves his teachers. I love how they take care of him and that I can view his progress and daily activities on the App.
I also like that they have an inhouse chef and are served freshly made meals.

My nearly 3 year old has been attending Acorn Day Nursery Westcroft since June 2024. When he first started, it took a while for him to settle but the staff were exceptional throughout this time of change and ensured my son had a home-from-hone experience. Staff are so caring, kind, we are always greeted
with a smile when we come through the door. They want the best for each child and since attending my son's interest and love of books has broadened massively as well as his love of singing and dancing! He has also come out of his shell (he is quiet around large groups and tends to be quite independent) but staff have encouraged him to play in larger groups with the other children and role-play. I have seen a big difference in him because of this. He is talking much more than when he initially started. Staff have been amazing supporting our son with potty training. Management are fantastic and ensure the children's safety is priority. My son enjoys going to nursery so I can't thank them enough!

The staff members I have come across have always been friendly and approachable. They care deeply for the children and I feel safe in the knowledge that my children are well looked after. I recently viewed a preschool for my daughter, who is about to turn 3, and actually decided against sending her
there because I felt that she had better opportunities for school readiness at Acorn. The children in all rooms have a variety of activities offered to them and my two children absolutely thrive at the nursery. There is always messy play out and they go outdoors in all weather. The communication with parents is fantastic. We get to see numerous photos every day of what the children are up to and have the chance to attend things, such as first-aid courses, which are very relevant and beneficial to parents of young children. All-in-all we are extremely happy with our decision to choose Acorn at Westcroft.

I couldn't be happier with Acorn Day Nursery in Westcroft! My daughter looks forward to going every single day. The entire staff is exceptional, with a wonderful approach to children and excellent communication with parents. The meals provided are delicious, and my daughter thoroughly enjoys them.

Lovely nursery with amazing, caring, friendly staff. Our little one is looked after by all the workers at Acorns, with most if not all knowing her name and able to engage with her to make her feel settled and confident within the nursery. The workers encourage independent play alongside giving support
to the children when need it, I can't complain my child's needs are not met. Great range of activities for the children throughout the day and week to keep them entertained, both indoors and outdoors. Meal times are ranged very well, with our little one trying various different foods that we perhaps wouldn't give her. Love Acorn Nursery and know that our little one is well cared for when she is there.

My daughter has been attending Acorn at Westcroft for 2 and a half years, of which she has developed and grown into a wonderful young person under the guidance of the staff at the nursery. All of the staff are friendly, kind and professional, making the nursery process simple and effortless for children
and their parents.
The activities are fun and exciting for my daughter and also provide educational benefits through exploring and playing.
