The recently refurbished Little Pioneers Nursery & Pre-School Newbiggin makes you feel like you've gained new family members when you meet their friendly, approachable team at their purpose-built, all-on-one level nursery.

Their ParentZone app keeps parents informed about life at nursery with photos from their day, assessments, meals are eaten and even toilet training progress! They are big on safety which is why all their staff are Paediatric first aid trained.

The nursery are Green Flag eco schools accredited, a programme that sees children lead the way in making little changes that deliver big environmental differences. They have areas for growing food (and eating it), regular visits to local care homes and take care of each other and the world.

They have 5 Little Pioneers to help share their core values with children, such as encouraging them to be independent to expressing their feelings.

The nursery has an outdoor play area that is surrounded by the remainder of the building, making it a safe and secure environment for children to play in. Staff and children take advantage of all of the local amenities which include two play areas, one at the entrance to nursery and one at the rear.

The staff at the nursery are excellent and provide a safe and caring environment for our child.
He gets experience on activities that he would not normally get the chance and has made some very good friends. Parents are proactively involved with the development process and are given an overview o a
daily basis on collection. Well done.

My son started her, he was very shy and couldn't speak. He has grown a very confident young man and his speech is fantastic. The staff here have been great with my little boy, and he loves them.

The team at the nursery are fantastic. My boy at the nursery loves it and gets on with the whole team. From a flexibility point of view, it's great that they can accommodate additional sessions when ratios allow.
I would recommend without hesitation.

My daughter and son both enjoy The Co-operative Childcare Newbiggin. They've both come on so much whilst they've been there. With the children doing so much throughout the day and progression will no doubt continue.

Absolutely love this nursery. My little girl has come on fabulous. She is so confident and outgoing and she loves all of the staff. They have done brilliantly even when lots of changes have happened and they minimised disruptions for my little one. Cannot compliment them enough.

Extremely happy with the care provided to my daughter. We were looking for a good nursery near the Kingston park area in Newcastle but there wasn't any that could satisfy us unless a branch of co-operative childcare nursery opened in Newbiggin. My daughter has been attending this nursery for two and
half years now and is always happy and looking forward to going. Staff are very supportive and overall a clean environment is visible. Really a peace of mind!

I have been using this nursery for over 6 years now, all three of my children have attended the nursery and in that time it has gone from strength to strength. It now feels like the core staff that have always been there is a part of our family now. Not only have they done a wonderful job of looking
after my children, they have been of fantastic support to my family. I will be so sad when my youngest child leaves there, as I won't be having any more children, I think I will have to get myself a job at the nursery instead! I wouldn't hesitate in recommending this nursery to anyone. I wish they did a holiday club for older children too!

I've been using this nursery since 2011 first with my eldest daughter and now with my daughter who is currently in preschool. The latter has been with them since around 3 months old and I can't fault the nursery staff on how they have taken care of them both. My daughter has thrived these last 6 months
or so and her confidence is amazing now.
I'm confident that when the time comes she will settle into reception with ease.
Thank you so much to all the staff involved in teaching her and taking care of her.

My son is currently attending the preschool and has been at this nursery since he was 7 months old. He has come on so much and is reaching all his targets and more. I cannot thank all the staff for helping him achieve all he has and getting him ready for school. He has made friends for life here and
loves it. My eldest son also attended here from being a baby until leaving for reception. He also came on leaps and bounds. Amazing nursery and staff.

  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 32 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Day Nursery is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.827 for Little Pioneers Nursery & Pre-School, Newbiggin is calculated as follows: ( (319 Excellents x 5) + (60 Goods x 4) + (3 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 382 Ratings = 4.827
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Little Pioneers Nursery & Pre-School, Newbiggin is based on 32 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the number of registered child places in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Day Nursery registered for a maximum of 50 child places has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 63 number of registered child places is 12.6, which has been reached with 32 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Day Nursery does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
