Children 1st Plumtree Nursery School is situated in the village of Plumtree, close to the A606 and the A52.

The nursery has been extensively refurbished indoors and outdoors to provide a truly unique learning environment with designated areas for babies, toddlers, early years and children aged up to 12-years-old.

The children benefit from eating healthy food to help fuel the development of their young minds and bodies.

The nursery's friendly, enthusiastic staff are fully trained and very experienced. Child to staff ratios are lower than Ofsted requirements.

Children are encouraged to choose their own activity with a huge variety of options both indoors and outside in the garden.

The nursery offers funded places for eligible 2, 3 and 4-year-olds.

Firstly, I want to start by saying how amazing the safe space is that the children have to play and explore. It’s a very spacious nursery with lots of areas for the children to enjoy their nursery time. I have done pick-up for my niece and nephew a number of times now and each and every time the staff
have made me feel welcome, all of which are all friendly and happy. My niece and nephew love attending the nursery and have made some great connections with staff members and other children along the way. Both of the children often mention their allocated staff members at home, so that shows they are having a positive impact. The nursery is extremely secure with the main door requiring assistance to be let in and the interior doors requiring a button to be pressed, a password is also used when collecting a child if you aren’t a parent or carer. The meals the children eat are all nutritional and healthy, but the children particularly enjoy the sweet biscuit treat at home time.

Both of my children attend this nursery, the staff are lovely and always go above and beyond for them! My children love going and have formed some great bonds with new friends and the staff that look after them!

Both my children have come to Children 1st and have been very happy. The building and surroundings are great. My one concern is staff turnover. My child gets used to one member of staff and then they leave. It would be good if there could be some flexibility for the nursery to provide extra hours in
an emergency (ie funeral) that we need to attend, no other childcare options.

Children 1st - Plumtree are fantastic! My daughter’s been going since she was 14 months old and will be there till she starts school in September. It is a really spacious nursery, with so many facilities for the children. It’s bright and airy with all glass changing areas. They even have air con which
is fab in summer. There are so many different fun tree houses, jungles and ball pits with indoor slides that my daughters enjoy. My daughter has ASD and if it wasn’t for nursery spotting this at 15 months old we would never have got such an early diagnosis. So I am eternally grateful they approached me about it and did it in such a kind and supportive way. The staff are amazing, and the manager is brilliant in helping me work with School and Families and the local authority. The teacher in early years is amazing with the children and my daughter. The efforts he goes to each week in terms of topics, what the children will learn and activities way exceed my expectations, it’s unreal!

Due to house moves, this is the third nursery we have experienced and it is absolutely amazing.
All the staff are lovely and great with the children.
We never have any problems at drop-off - all ours have been excited to start the day.
The facilities are stellar, both outdoor and indoor I'm kind
of jealous of my own kids.
The extra stuff they do too, e.g. graduation, natu=ivity in early years is also a lovely extra.
Also, really love seeing pictures of what they've been up to on social media and the online portal.

Great staff, enjoy looking at the progress on the app.
My daughter loves her teachers and always talks about two members of staff, in particular.
Her skills with maths and pencil activities have improved more with each activity and at-home tasks made.

An incredible nursery for our two boys, so supportive from day one and they both really enjoy coming to nursery. The staff are so caring and passionate with stimulating and fun learning environments. A gorgeous location and so cute to have guinea pigs in the garden.

My child has been going to Children 1st Plumtree for a couple of years now.
I can’t express how happy I am to take him to nursery as I know he loves being there and has learnt so much from them.
The nursery offers such a wide choice of activities for the children to play and learn from. The staff
are brilliant with the children and now he is getting ready for school this year, they are guiding him and the others towards being ready and not just throwing them in the deep end.
The staff are fantastic at communicating with us and I can’t praise them enough!

I cannot recommend Children 1st Plumtree enough. My daughter has been attending since January 2023 and absolutely loves the staff. I feel her development has come on leaps and bounds and that's all thanks to the hard-working staff. They are extremely attentive and supportive and I love the relationship

Absolutely fantastic nursery! All the staff members at Children 1st Plumtree are brilliant. Extremely attentive, friendly and always helpful. My little boy has been attending nursery for the last 8 months and the development I have seen in him both from a skills and confidence perspective is incredible,
I am sure that this has a lot to do with the support, education and guidance he is given at nursery.

Our daughter has been at Children 1st @ Plumtree since the autumn of 2023, when we moved her from a small village nursery. We were nervous about the scale of the setup, as it was so much bigger than what she was used to. We needn't have worried!
Our daughter is thriving there and I think there are
a couple of factors. Firstly, the scale of the nursery. It is so well equipped, with indoor and outdoor spaces for the children, they couldn't hope to get bored. Secondly, the staff - everyone is friendly, there is evidence of genuine care being given and there are clearly personal relationships being built between carers and children. Thirdly, the Children 1st group - the infrastructure that is provided by the wider Children 1st group, including maintenance, quality of food and technological support, all feed into the quality of the experience. It also means communication is clear and timely.
All my early concerns are forgotten - what a great place. Thank you to the whole team!

My daughter has been at Plumtree since she was one. I have always been very happy with the care and services they provide. Everyone is always friendly when you drop off/pick up and gives you a full rundown of the day. The facilities are brilliant. For me, there is the perfect balance of playing and
learning. The early years team especially the manager genuinely cares for the children and tailors the learning for each child!
The most important thing is my daughter is happy here she’s formed great relationships with her friends and staff. She enjoys her nursery days and we will both be sad when she leaves to go to school.
If I had to say anything slightly on the negative side it would be that on occasion there is a high staff turn over but saying that lots of them have been there for years!

Well, what can I say about Plumtree Children’s 1st? The staff who work at this facility put their absolute everything into the children in their care. Every time I walk through those doors as a parent, I’m greeted happily, with welcoming smiles from both ladies! The room leaders in each room make so
much time every day to fill you in on what our little one has been up to, the good, the bad and the funny! I find the feedback so helpful and as a parent it’s great to have the support from them and their MDT! The teacher in Early years is incredibly skilled and has gained a lot of respect from our family in the way he manages behaviour and encourages the development of our child. the key players in their roles within Early years and work with us daily to combat behaviours, always providing us support and guidance within their capabilities. I find all 3 of them wonderful to engage with.
The nursery is clean, spacious and full of love. We’re very grateful for the team at Plumtree.

I simply can’t rate children’s 1st enough! My daughter started in April 2023 and she has settled in so well, the staff are so friendly and welcoming. There are plenty of activities for the children to do and it’s nice to get regular observations and photos of my daughter on the app, plus the daily updates
in her diary. The food is varied and nutritious and there’s plenty of outdoor play and crafts etc for the children. One thing that particularly drew us to this nursery is how well they seem to prepare the children for going to school. I would definitely recommend this nursery to anyone who is looking!

Emma Neale

Job Title: Nursery Manager Joined: 2011

Hello, my name is Emma Neale and I am Nursery Manager at Children 1st @ Plumtree.


I began working for Children 1st in April 2011 and since joining I have had the opportunity to grow and develop myself starting my career as a Nursery Nurse, then becoming a Senior Nursery Nurse and a ‘training and development worker’ progressing to Assistant Nursery Manager, and now Nursery Manager.


My favourite part of the job is seeing how the children learn and grow. I love being part of their nursery lives making sure they get the best start.
