Mount Vernon Day Nursery and Preschool is located in a beautiful, learning environment. The building is equipped to the very highest standard to facilitate the children’s play and learning. The secure and spacious gardens allow the children to take their learning outdoors to equipment including a mud kitchen.

The enthusiastic team of long-standing childcare practitioners provides a warm and safe environment for children to learn, play and discover. The team was proud to achieve a Good rating in the Ofsted inspection (January 2015).

The children are supported during their transition from home to nursery and the bespoke Ready for School Programme, which includes Growing Readers, Writers and Mathematicians, helps to prepare them for school. To further support this, the three- to five-year-olds are provided with a uniform of polo shirts and sweatshirts.

A wide range of extracurricular activities include baby yoga, Spanish and French lessons, piano and ballet lessons and woodwork.

The Review Score of 8.8 (maximum of 10) for Mount Vernon Nursery is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.6 out of 5 from 8 Reviews over all time. This Average Rating is also the rating value for Mount Vernon Nursery in Google's Search Results - more info

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.2 out of 5 from 5 positive Reviews in the last 12 months.

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating of all Reviews over all time. For each review the Day Nursery / service is rated Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Poor or Very Poor on a number of areas eg Staff, Management etc. The Day Nursery receives points for each rating as follows: Excellent = 5. Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating.

    The Average Rating of 4.589 for Mount Vernon Nursery is calculated as follows: ( (59 Excellents x 5) + (33 Goods x 4) + (3 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 95 Ratings = 4.589

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 12 months. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with 'Extremely Likely' or 'Likely' in answer to the question 'How likely are you to recommend this Day Nursery to friends and family?'

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 5 Positive Reviews, 3 points for the first Positive Review and then 0.25 Points for each of the next 4 Positive Reviews.

    2. 1 point is available for reaching a target number of Positive Reviews based on 20% of the number of registered maximum number of service users. If the target is partially reached then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Day Nursery with 50 registered maximum number of service users has a target of 10 Positive Reviews, if it has 10 or more Positive Reviews it will receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews will receive 0.7 points.

    3. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. The calculation is the same as above, except the points are divided by 2.

The 4.202 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Mount Vernon Nursery is based on 5 positive Reviews in the last 12 months and is calculated as follows:

    1. 3 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 = 4

    2. Target of 24.8 positive Reviews (124 registered maximum number of service users ÷ 5). 5 Reviews ÷ 24.8 Target = 0.202

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

Since the change in management, I can see an improvement. Everyone, all team members are friendly and accommodating. Food has improved, the menu is much healthier. Although the nursery opens at 7.20am, it would be ideal if they could open at 7am to 7pm.
Previously in the baby room, they had a diary but it is now just a verbal handover. It would be great if we could be given something is written down and give it to us. Otherwise, all good.

Thank you for taking the time to submit your review, I will feed your suggestion back regarding the day sheet at the end of the day.

Kind Regards

Both my husband and I are so grateful and impressed by the service provided by all staff at Mount Vernon Nursery. Our son went in the past and always enjoyed it. Now our daughter is here and has moved from the baby room to the toddler room. The staff are so caring, kind and warm and go out of their way to welcome her and make her feel happy. I can go to work with the comfort of knowing she is being well looked after. She now smiles and waves goodbye every morning which is a positive reflection of the high standard of care she receives.

The nursery continues to be very nurturing, pastoral, with keen focus on individual children needs. The staff have continued to act in the most professional manner.

Very pleased with recent refurbishments of the nursery.
Feeding times continue to be delayed on many occasions but pleased in-house catering has been introduced which I hope will resolve the feed time delays. Overall happy!

Excellent nursery - they have been great at bringing out the best in our daughter. She has certainly flourished and grown in confidence there. The staff are approachable, friendly and clearly, enjoy working there. Activities are brilliant and at the age of 4 she can count to 10 in French and Spanish and has knowledge of other words as well. My only criticism is the fact that parents are still charged when the nursery is shut on bank holidays, which I know is not unique to this nursery but does seem unreasonable.

Overall my daughter has been well cared for and learnt many things in the past couple of years, particularly her love for drawing which has blossomed since she has been at the nursery. She is happy and has made new friends in her group as well as some of the team, especially her key workers.

Our daughter joined the baby room in June 2015. Her key worker made not only our daughter feel at ease but us as well. She looks forward to going to nursery and it's a delight to see her go off and play, feeling safe and secure with kindness and support shown by the staff. Her language skills have developed beautifully, so have her feeding skills and her ability to play and explore.

The work she took home at Christmas time melted our hearts, such a lot of hard work must have gone into preparing such gorgeous activities. Our friends were very impressed with the quality of work.

Our daughter has special dietary requirements and the nursery has always made sure she never misses out, when they do cookery activities the staff always provide similar but safe options especially for her.

Her learning journal and daily diary is a really wonderful way of keeping us informed of her developments. We love reading the observations made by the staff.

We cannot thank the nursery enough for exceeding our expectations of a setting and keeping our little girl happy and safe!!

Marketa Cardon, Mrkg at Mount Vernon Nursery responded to this review on 12 Jan 2016:

Thank you for your kind feedback. We are delighted to hear that you are happy with the nursery and we will share your warm words to the nursery team.

Both my children attend Mount Vernon Nursery. One child is 3 and the other is 1.

This setting is a very warm and welcoming place to both children and parents, which has enabled both my children to settle well and feel safe and secure in a loving environment.
The care for the children is excellent.

Communication is fantastic. When you collect your child you are told lots about their day etc and you can ask anything you wish to. Via email there is lots of communication and I particularly enjoy reading the newsletter about what each room will be learning about that month. This enables us as parent to support the learning by consolidating what's been done at nursery and also preparing them for this.

The staff are very approachable at all times and are happy to answer any questions I have had throughout the 2 and a half years my son has been here.
The support for my son has been amazing and the staff have been more than happy to support us a parents on ways forward for him.

The children have a well planned, broad and balanced curriculum, full of fun filled activities such as music, dance, gardening club, languages, piano and much more. As well as their expected learning curriculum.

My son is now in Pre Prep and starts school in September 2016. This nursery are preparing him well for school with the structured routines and expected behaviours. His social development has come on leaps and bounds with a huge input from the staff.

My son has learnt so much here and the staff really take time to put strategies in place on how to bring each individual forward to the next steps of their learning.

My son has had really lovely keyworkers and staff working with him, whom he is grown very fond of and talks about a lot at home. They are part of the family.

My daughter started in September 2015 one day a week. She enjoys the toddler room and has settled well. She too has lovely people working with her and feels safe and secure.

I would recommend this nursery 100%

Thank you so much for your positive feedback. We are delighted to hear that you are happy with the level of care our nursery provides.

My son has been attending Mount vernon Day Nursery since he was 9 months old, he's turning 4 next month! I have been extremely happy with the level of care, attention and professionalism the nursery has offered to not only my son but to us as parents too.
Both the staff and activities in the Baby room and Toddler room have been fantastic. They helped make his transition into the nursery easy even helping me as an upset parent!! Now he is in the pre prep and loves every minute! He can't wait to go in especially on a Wednesday for show and tell and his piano lesson. I am happy I made the choice to keep him here for another year instead of a school nursery as he does so much more including Spanish and French lessons, Piano, Ballet and Woodwork.
I have been extremely happy with everything about the nursery and will continue to recommend friends and family here too!!

Description:

I started my childcare career over 20 years ago working as a nanny and after a year I joined Teddies nurseries in Northwood as a Nursery Nurse and worked my way up to Regional Manager. In 2012 I joined Bright Horizons and continued to grow and support many nurseries across London.

In 2016 I started my own family with my husband Marc and we welcomed Harrison to the world. Since having Harrison my passion for leading my own nursery again was re-ignited and I joined Mount Vernon Nursery in May 2017.

Helping children to develop through their early years was always my passion, seeing the children's expressions of amazement as they learn something new is always a moment to treasure. Helping families through their first years, balancing life and ensuring that we all work in partnership is the key to great success. I am also passionate about the care and education we deliver each day, ensuring the team I am working with have great opportunities to develop and are empowered, being able to ensure each child reaches their full potential.
