Situated in the rural area of Chettiscombe, in The Cider Barn, Wooden House Nursery offers high quality early years care and education in a home from home setting.

The nursery has recently undergone an expansion in September 2025, which has included the addition of a brand new pre-school room. This has created additional vacancies for all age groups and allowed for the existing space to be used in a much more flexible way to best meet the needs of all children.
Wooden House is an engaging and stimulating environment, where children are encouraged to be independent, participate and become active leaders of their own learning. Children have direct access to a secure garden outdoors to allow children the chance to explore the natural world and where outdoor learning is a huge part of their every day curriculum.

Following the EYFS curriculum, each day is designed to promote development whilst also ensuring children have fun, socialise with their peers and have the opportunity to explore their own interests which support progress of their next steps.

The team welcome all children and their families to visit the nursery and take a look around, they are sure you will feel right at home from the moment you step through the door.

My son spent a year at Wooden House, and he absolutely loved it there. From his first settling session (when he cried because he had to come home) to his last day, he was always excited to go.
He really thrived there and had a brilliant connection with all his teachers.
I would definitely recommend
Wooden House to anyone thinking about sending their child there, and I will be sending my daughter when she is old enough.

My son attends this nursery four times a week and I feel his needs are met very well. The staff have listened to our individual needs and worked with our family to provide a safe nurturing setting for my son. He totally loves his time in the setting, coming home and talking about what he has done. Also
most recently I feel more included in his learning as the setting has adopted an app which I feel helps me to see what happens even if I'm working. The setting provides a great outside area and an all-weather outdoor shelter to play in providing fresh air at all times. It has use of the lovely Devon countryside.

Caroline has worked at Wooden House Nursery for 21 years! She is a passionate and dedicated manager who leads her team with enthusiasm and professionalism.


Caroline is proud of the expansion that has just taken place at Wooden House and is keen to show prospective families this amazing new space.

Her long-standing team is a testament to her leadership, as the setting benefits from having many long-standing staff. Over the last few years, this team has grown significantly with new members who are equally as passionate and dedicated to delivering the highest quality care and education to the families and children they support.
