Nestled within the beautifully refurbished Barbara Hart House on Monyhull Hall Road, Shooting Stars Kings Norton provides a vibrant and welcoming space where children can grow, learn, and thrive. This unique setting, formerly NHS offices, has been transformed into a modern nursery that supports high-quality early years education.

The nursery is divided into four age-specific rooms, each equipped with premium Community Play furniture and a wide range of educational resources. As children progress, their environments evolve to introduce more structured learning, helping them prepare confidently for the next stage in their education.

The curriculum is delivered through a balanced mix of child-led play and adult-supported activities, ensuring full coverage of the EYFS framework. This approach nurtures independence, curiosity, and creativity while guiding children through key developmental stages.

To support family engagement and peace of mind, Shooting Stars offers ParentCam—a secure CCTV system that allows parents to view their child’s activities in real time. The nursery app further strengthens communication by providing daily updates and insights into each child’s experiences and progress.

Outdoor learning is a key feature of the nursery. Children enjoy a spacious garden complete with a trike track and sensory shed, designed to encourage physical activity and imaginative play. Babies and Pretoddlers also benefit from their own dedicated outdoor areas, tailored to their developmental needs.

Nutritious hot meals and healthy snacks are freshly prepared each day in the on-site kitchen, promoting balanced eating habits and supporting children’s overall wellbeing.

My son has been at this nursery for over a year now, and he loves it. He comes home after his day, and he has so much excitement in telling me how his day has been. The staff are encouraging and caring. They have really made a positive impact on my son and his development. There are always friendly
faces to greet us every morning. The open space in the garden is amazing, with all kinds of fun learning through play. The rooms are open, light and safe. My son loves the food and tries things I never thought he would even try; he gets good choices and is always offered fruit and vegetables. On picking my son up, I love to hear the singing that's coming from the different rooms. I feel very comfortable leaving my son in the hands of the staff here, and I know that staff won't hesitate to challenge something if they believe it needs to be challenged. Overall, Shooting Stars deserve the 'outstanding' Ofsted report.

My son started here when it just opened. The staff were amazing; they helped support him with his SEN and always kept me updated on how his day went. He is now thriving in primary school and is top of his class. I feel this is down to the happy experience that he had at the nursery and the support that
we had even during Covid.
We even got a check-in call just to ensure he has settled into school.
I would like to thank the management and all the team. You all deserve the outstanding that you received from Ofsted.

My son has been attending for 3-months now and absolutely loves it. The staff are all so friendly and greet you even if you haven't met before. The building is large, clean and has excellent facilities. The baby room is very spacious, and the children are always playing outside, in the mud kitchen,
on the climbing frame and with the preschoolers at the end of the day. The food choice is great, very healthy, and the staff has been so accommodating and diligent in applying the cream for my child's eczema. I've never had any issues with lost items like some nurseries seem to. Staff give a good debrief at pick up, in addition to the daily diary and regular observations with photos - I look forward to these so much. Overall, I am very pleased with the nursery and staff and couldn't recommend it highly enough - I have heard complaints from other nurseries that are nearly double the price!
Reply from Hollie Higgins, Marketing at Shooting Stars Nurseries at Kings NortonThe staff team will be delighted to receive your feedback about how happy you are with your son's care, development and variety of activities and experiences. We will be sure to pass your compliments to the chef too! Thank you so much for taking the time to leave this kind review, and thank you for choosing Shooting Stars to care for your child.

My son started here in the baby room when the nursery first opened. I have nothing but glowing reports for this nursery. Every member of staff here is friendly, caring and extremely dedicated to their roles. Absolutely adore the manager and the team. What I love most is their professionalism at all
times, their love towards every single child and the relationships they build with the children as well as the parents. Would like to give a massive shout out to one member of staff, whom my son absolutely adores and calls her his best friend. She has been a tremendous carer for my son, and he was absolutely devastated when he left her room to join the toddler room. However, she always came upstairs to see him, whenever she could and made sure he could see her, and feel safe and secure with his new key workers. She told me one morning she heard his cry and went up there to see if he was ok. He gave her a big cuddle. This small example just shows the lengths all staff members will go here!

An amazing nursery with incredibly welcoming staff. Our little boy loves going, ready and eager for big hugs from his key worker. He has progressed a lot since joining, and we always look forward to the daily log to see what he's been up to.

My son started in lockdown, and we had recently moved from Somerset. It was a difficult time and daunting taking him to a new childcare provider.
However, the staff were amazing and welcoming. He quickly settled in and mentions staff by name at home.
The facilities are lovely. The food is brilliant,
and it's reassuring to see from the daily report that he has eaten everything.
I also sent my mum to collect my son. However, I had forgotten to give her the password. The manager ensured that I was called and this was checked out. We were both impressed with this standard of safeguarding.
I would recommend Shooting Stars to any parent.

Fabulous nursery, very well-led. My son has grown so much since attending this setting, his progression academically and socially has been so lovely to witness. He has so much fun here and loves coming on his days; he runs in very happy. He has made friends and gets excited to see these friends in his
room. A change from childminder to a nursery setting was just what he needed to grow.

My son has been going to Shooting Stars nursery since he was 7-months-old, so for almost 3-years now. All of the staff are amazing, and I feel so comfortable leaving my son with them. They all go above and beyond to make the kids feel happy and it really shows. I will be sad when the time comes for
my son to start big school and leave the nursery. They have helped my son in so many different ways, and I am very grateful to them for taking such good care of him.

Shooting Stars nursery is amazing. My son started in September 2021 and really struggled with socialising with other children, but since going to Shooting Stars, he is much more confident in approaching other children to play. My child is a super fussy eater, but recently, he has been encouraged by
the nursery to try new things, and him being in this new setting with the other children, has really helped. Thank you, Shooting Stars, I have a happy, confident little boy.
Reply from Hollie Higgins, Marketing at Shooting Stars Nurseries at Kings NortonThank you for sharing your feedback about how our team have supported your child to make progress with socialising and being more adventurous when eating. Parents are often amazed at what their child will eat at nursery, especially if they are reluctant to try new foods at home! We will be sure to pass your thanks to the team.

My daughter's been going to the nursery since her first birthday and will be two next month. I have never had a problem with the nursery, and whenever I have asked for help or support, they have always been there to lend a hand; they have been brilliant, and my daughter loves being at nursery. Also,
the communication between the staff and parents is amazing. I wouldn't send my child anywhere else, and the way she has developed since starting is so lovely, they have helped my daughter to shine. Being a lockdown baby, they helped her break out of her little shell, and she is so outgoing and confident. I couldn't thank everyone that works here!

My daughter has been attending this nursery for almost 2-years, and it was the best decision we made to choose Shooting Stars. The standard is exceptional both, safety, day to day care of our child, education, a wide range of activities, huge outside space and also their warmth and friendliness towards
us as parents. All staff, management and catering staff are so friendly and genuinely care about the children in their care and their health and development. I could not rate or recommend this nursery and its staff more highly.

My granddaughter has flourished since she started this nursery - it was a bit of a rocky start as she picked up a lot of viruses, but once she got over this hurdle, there was no stopping her! The building itself is quite new, large and well laid out with wonderful outside space, but this is not what
makes this nursery - what makes it is the wonderful staff who genuinely have your child’s best interests at heart. My granddaughter has formed some lovely strong bonds with several staff members, and I am more than happy with the service provided.

My son loves nursery. They have so much that they do every day. It’s lovely being able to see my son at nursery on the camera. I find it very reassuring as I can see him happy and learning, as well as playing. The app is brilliant too, as it has a detailed description of what he’s been up to, what he’s
eaten, plus pictures get uploaded of him so I can see things that he’s making. He often asks me if he can go to nursery on the weekends. He settled in there very quickly, he’s adapted to their routine, making many friends here, he really gets on well with everybody. He loves the garden, especially the sandpit. The staff are always on hand to help in any way. Every single staff member makes you feel very welcome, there are always big smiles from everyone; it’s such a warm and friendly atmosphere. I feel very happy that my son is in their safe hands. I highly recommend any parent to send their child to Shooting Stars nursery.

I have two girls at Shooting Stars in Kings Norton; they have both attended from when they were 9-months-old babies. They absolutely love it. The staff are so caring and professional; they really do go above and beyond for the children. The girls have made such good emotional, social and educational
progress since being there. The facilities are lovely, especially the outdoor area. My eldest leaves this summer; she will definitely miss it!
Reply from Hollie Higgins, Marketing at Shooting Stars Nurseries at Kings NortonThank you so much for your kind review, it is heart-warming to read how happy, settled and flourishing your little ones are. The summer is always a bittersweet time for our staff team, as the children we have formed such strong bonds with over their early years journey leave us to go to big school. Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.3 (9.308) out of 10 for Shooting Stars Nurseries at Kings Norton is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 16 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.6 out of 5 from 14 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Day Nursery is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.705 for Shooting Stars Nurseries at Kings Norton is calculated as follows: ( (155 Excellents x 5) + (20 Goods x 4) + (9 Satisfactorys x 3) + (6 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 190 Ratings = 4.705
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.603 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Shooting Stars Nurseries at Kings Norton is based on 14 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.85
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the number of registered child places in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Day Nursery registered for a maximum of 50 child places has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 93 number of registered child places is 18.6. 14 Positive Reviews ÷ 18.6 = 0.753
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Day Nursery does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
