The newest addition to the Acorns family, this light and airy purpose built nursery can be found on the University of South Wales Pontypridd site at Treforest. Located on Llantwit Road, 5 minutes from the A470, this nursery is perfectly placed for travel in or out of Cardiff and the Valleys.

The nursery management team have had over 20 years experience working within Acorns. Staff and student children from USW as well as children from the wider community are welcomed into the picturesque nursery setting. Each group has their own base room and access to the tree-lined garden area enabling them to freely move between stimulating activities in the indoor and outdoor environment. All equipment is of the finest quality, chosen for its play and learning potential and is age appropriate to ensure that babies and children are learning through play.

The outdoor environment means that the children can hear the waterfall behind the nursery and the birds singing all day long. The pre-school children enjoy a woodland trail walk to the dedicated forest school area The covered outdoor area and open garden ensure that learning and fun continue whatever the weather.

August was our final month at Acorns USW before leaving for school. The staff have been fantastic. The graduation was brilliant and although my child has learning difficulties he was fully included. Well done to the manager and the team for all their hard work.

This is by far the best nursery I have ever used. As a mother of 3 children I have experience with other nursery over the past 15 years and this one surpasses them all. From the manager to the room staff across babies to pre school they are faultless. Nothing is too much bother, the time and effort
given to meeting my daughters' individual needs has been second to none. Well done Acorns highly recommended! If I could give a higher rating than 5, I would!

Acorns at USW Treforest Day Nursery has been amazing with our daughter. She started there when she was 9 months old and left aged 3. The support, care and compassion shown have been fantastic. Always encouraging her and offering great support for us, as a family. We will be sorry not to see everyone
again but we can't thank everyone enough.

My child has come on leaps and bounds since being at Acorns at USW. They have amazing things going on throughout the year and get us involved with their collaborative system, sending in photos and crafts that are displayed in the nursery for all to see. They do a load of celebrations for things around
the world and they put on parties for things such as Father’s Day etc, which is lovely to see him playing in an environment so homely and where he feels comfortable. The food there is amazing made freshly in-house and any enquires we have had, the chef has been very accommodating, as my child can be quite fussy. They have wonderful resources for the children to learn and play from, and my child has learned so much since being there. My child won’t be going anywhere else until he starts school and then we will be looking at doing Acorns action park as the whole company seems very professional and the heart of what they do is the children’s welfare and their standard of care. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

I cannot recommend Acorns at USW enough, they have made my transition back into work amazing by knowing my little boy is so well looked after. Their premises is spotless and beautiful, full of children's beautiful artwork. We have been overwhelmed by the standard of care given to our boy and we can
guarantee that he adores the staff just as much as we do!
We love getting involved with the collaborative system and when we go into nursery to pick him up, we can see our pictures as well as others, which is lovely to see.
We have constant updates over the app of their activities for the day and it lovely to see him learn and grow! Since being at Acorns, he has become so sociable and independent and it’s lovely to know he is in amazing care. We have been quite picky with routines but the girls have listened to us throughout the whole six months we have been there and through his food stages.

The Acorns management team at USW are nothing short of amazing, as are the entire team of nurses and exceptional catering team.
Without the interventions put into place by this amazing team, my little boy would certainly not be where he is today, for this, I will be eternally thankful.
The whole
team work tirelessly to ensure the nursery runs like clockwork, the professionalism, coupled with total approachability, understanding of individual's needs and compassion, and dietary requirements, is what makes the vast difference at USW Acorns. Having seen many nurseries, I was shocked at how high the bar had been set at USW. None of them even come close to what has been created here.
With so much to offer the team, the managers, supervisors and ALN nurses are excellently placed at the top, as all of their positivity and enthusiasm feeds down to their well-accomplished team. Like I said, all of the staff have undoubtedly changed our family's lives, and am sure 100's of others too, from remembering your name from day one to giving you tissues when you cry, they are outstanding.
The teamwork just flows with the whole team, even though each individual has their own job description and responsibilities, they all muck in to help each other, and you, if you need it, its great to see such a transfer and adaptability of their skills.
This nursery is truly an Acorns treasure. Those personal touches they add are not unnoticed and are highly regarded.
Clearly the best of the best, 'excellent' simply does not do this team of professionals justice, they are worlds above excellent and way ahead of the game.
Moving to an area that does not have Acorns provision is incredibly daunting, I am forced into my decision to take my little one out and have huge concerns, even though I know they have given my little one the skills he needs to adapt.
Thank you, to each and every one of you amazing people.
Saying we will miss you all is an understatement.

So for 18 months, my little man has been engaged with your superstar team at Acorns USW, in his time there, he has learnt to walk, talk and be an independent little boy, undoubtedly, with the help of all your staff at the nursery.
He has flourished since joining you and we couldn't be happier with
your professionalism and caring, home-from-home environment.
Coming to collect him and seeing your nurses dancing and singing their hearts out in the classrooms is so heartwarming, the engagement with the children is second to none. We will all be incredibly sad as a family, to leave your outstanding care, sadly as little one starts school out of the area, he will have to start a new nursery. I would like to thank the team for all of their hard work in helping our little man grow.

The care that Acorns at USW Treforest Day Nursery affords to my daughter is to such a high standard. I can see that my daughter truly loves attending as she will often wait by the door for me with her bag and coat in hand ready to go on a morning. I drop my daughter off by the door and she is always
happy to go in with a consistent member of staff, which speaks volumes. There are occasions when I have made contact during the day and am then provided with a friendly handover via telephone. Upon collection, I am able to see where my daughter spends her time and it truly is such a lovely and homely environment. There are numerous open-ended toys to play with and lots of space to explore. She is constantly changing and developing and I am confident that she is thriving in nursery. The staff are all familiar with my daughter and are very careful and mindful to follow her dietary/allergy needs. Upon collection, it is lovely to hear all about her day, along with her emotional presentation. Staff have also been very supportive and reassuring when incidents have occurred (e.g. when she has bitten another child).
I am very particular about who I allow to care for my child, however, I am confident in knowing that my daughter is consistently cared for and safe when attending Acorns at USW Treforest.

My daughter never cries when we arrive at nursery, she is full of smiles and cannot wait to go inside! All staff are very professional and they are aware that I have learning difficulties so they take care to explain things to me.

My daughter has recently started at Acorns USW and the staff made the whole process as painless as possible, they ensured they had all the information they needed about my little girl to make her day as home from home as possible. My daughter has many dietary requirements and the colour-coded plate
system have put my mind at ease. The outdoor facilities are fantastic and I’m very sure I chose the perfect setting for us! Thank you for the wonderful care you give to all the children in your care.

Acorns USW have been fantastic from the first time we met them. They welcomed our son in with open arms and instantly put us, as parents, at ease! Our son started aged 2 years and 11 months so it’s a tricky age to settle. Especially given he has some delays with his speech and language. The staff here
have got to know him and work with him every day to help his communication and speech come along. He also has a number of food allergies and is fussy with his food. The staff and chef have gone above and beyond to try and find meals for him to cater to his needs but also foods that he’ll try! Our son didn’t settle well at a previous childcare setting and we had so many worries with him starting here. But now, our only regret is that we didn’t put him at Acorns USW from day 1! It’s no surprise why he loves it so much when you see how wonderful the staff members are, how amazing the facilities are and the lengths that staff go to to help the children settle. We cannot thank them enough!

Absolutely love the nursery - amazing staff, facilities, equipment, and menu choices. My daughter has been attending for 1 year and the development we have seen in her has been incredible. Choosing a nursery to send her to during the height of lockdown was tough, but the team at Acorns USW put us right

Fantastic for my daughter, really brought her out of her shell considering she was born during the pandemic and therefore had a lack of social experience with other children. Staff really friendly and accommodating, activities are brilliant and it's lovely when she brings home what's she's made and
seeing her day via the app. Facilities are good given the history of the nursery. Meals are really good, well-balanced and the variety is fantastic. Price is quite high, however, it has been worth it. Couldn't recommend highly enough.

Home away from home for my daughter. The staff are amazing, friendly, caring, and handing over my daughter to them puts me at ease knowing she is cared for and made to feel at home. I love seeing my daughter's knowledge, understanding and manners progress every day thanks to her days spent at USW Acorns.

Acorns at USW Treforest is an outstanding nursery. My daughter has been attending for over three years. Despite moving further away from the nursery and no longer travelling in the direction of Acorns at USW Treforest for work, I have decided to keep my daughter here as this nursery excels in every
aspect. My daughter is always more than happy to go into nursery, even asking if she can stay when I pick her up after a full day! The staff are so friendly, helpful my daughter has learnt invaluable skills during her time here, my daughter is constantly learning new things with the monthly themes and is always so enthusiastic about the topics with so much to tell me after her day at nursery. The management, along with all staff members are always so helpful and supportive. Acorns at USW Treforest has an excellent ethos and my daughter and I will be very sad to leave once she starts school. I could not have asked for a better environment for my daughter to be looked after and grown up in during her first years of life.

From the moment my son drops off my grandson, he is super excited. He has been attending for nine months and the difference in him is a credit to the fantastic staff. Chris Camilleri

Job Title: Nursery Manager Joined: 1997

Chris is one of our most experienced managers, having started at Acorns in 1997 at Acorns Oakfield Street.


She progressed to managing a number of our nurseries, Acorns Oakfield Street, Baby Acorns, Acorns ONS, BBC Acorns, Acorns Henbury, Acorns House and now Acorns USW.


Chris has a passion for the outdoors, is a qualified Forest School Leader and loves to take the children out exploring, whatever the weather!
