The Woodlands Nursery and Pre-school is a beautiful home from home setting dedicated to offering the highest quality of care and education for children aged 6 weeks to 8 years.

The quirky little setting is located in the Old Chapel on Mill Lane, naturally submersed in history and culture. The building itself oozes charm and charisma. The environment is highly resourced to promote a love of learning and curiosity for knowledge, all delivered through exploratory play. The team recognise that all children are unique, and they learn and grow in their own special way. It is through Woodlands' Concept curriculum that they are able to offer stimulating development opportunities to support all children in their early years journey, all coordinated by a fully qualified Teacher.

The staff at this nursery are amazing, they have always got a smile on their faces and all members of the team are extremely close to each and every child. From the moment I drop off my child, I know she’ll be happy, safe and busy with all the educational activities they engage the children in every
day. They have helped immensely with my child’s learning and knowledge of the world, science, literature etc. It is a pleasure when I pick her up and find out what she’s been up to during the day and talking to the friendly staff myself. It will be a sad day when my child leaves for school, but I know she’ll be ready and well prepared.
Reply from Lorna Marshall, Director of Education at The Woodlands Nursery and Pre-schoolThank you so much for these lovely words, we will certainly miss your little one when she ventures off to school as she has been part of the Woodlands family for such a long time. We have watched her grow from a baby to now and can't quite believe its nearly her time for a Woodland's graduation!

I have had one child come through the nursery and a two-year-old who is still there and will be until he’s ready for school. I can’t speak highly enough of the staff as well as the resources available. I always feel like my child’s best interests are at the heart of everything and the staff care for
all of the children like they are their own. The nursery itself has such a lovely home from home atmosphere and their indoor space as well as their outdoor space is so well equipped to allow the children to develop through play and exploration. Absolutely love everything about the nursery and all they stand for!
Reply from Lorna Marshall, Director of Education at The Woodlands Nursery and Pre-schoolThank you so much! It really means a lot to see these kind words. I'm so proud that you see our team do care for the children like their own. We can't wait to continue to watch your little boy grow.

Our little boy absolutely loves coming here. He has thrived since attending and has become a sociable little boy having spent many of his first months in lockdown and not being able to socialise. He is one of 4 children. Having had the others attend different nurseries over the years, Woodlands is the
first one I have felt entirely at ease leaving my little one there for the day, the staff are fantastic, caring and so approachable. Our little boy loves it and so do we as a family.
Reply from Lorna Marshall, Director of Education at The Woodlands Nursery and Pre-schoolThese are really lovely words, thank you. It makes us incredibly proud that we stand out to you as we do pride ourselves on being a caring home from home setting so families feel content whilst their little ones are enjoying their days with us. He really is a sociable little boy and loves to play and join in with his friends.

We've seen major positive changes and growth in our daughter's development since attending Woodlands. More importantly with her interaction with other children. With Covid being the main issue with the lack of socialising in place, we were hesitant about whether she may have started too early. However,
the staff have not been short of support for us by ensuring that they know our daughter's likes and dislikes, going out of their ways to take the children on trips/walks, and are always looking to educate the children using fun and entertaining ways! Our daughter has also mentioned names from the nursery, both children and staff and considered them her best friends which is just heartwarming to hear!
Reply from Lorna Marshall, Director of Education at The Woodlands Nursery and Pre-schoolThis is amazing to read, thank you. She has settled in like she has always been with The Woodlands family and we have seen her confidence grow and grow, looking forward to many more days and experiences with your little one.

My daughter has been at Woodlands for about a year. She really enjoys going, and can’t get through the nursery doors quick enough. Every weekend she talks about her friends and the exciting things they do in the garden area. We are always greeted with a warm welcome from lovely staff who know my daughter
so well and can answer any queries I might have. They are accommodating, flexible and very personable which is great. They also somehow get my daughter to eat meals she would not even try at home which is a bonus! We are looking forward to our daughter moving up to preschool there so she can learn and develop more.
Reply from Lorna Marshall, Director of Education at The Woodlands Nursery and Pre-schoolThank you so much, reading this makes us so happy and proud. The meals are always a big hit with the children (and staff!) and we do enjoy sitting around the table together having a chat about our friends and family. We are looking forward to watching your little one grow as she continues to move through to preschool.

The staff at Woodlands Day Nursery are all fantastic and my grandson is always happy to go in the mornings and leaves a very happy, tired little boy. I would recommend the nursery to others who have children looking for somewhere safe and caring.

Woodlands is amazing. The ladies are so friendly and loving towards the children and they always think outside the box for exciting and different play ideas. My son loves nursery and sometimes doesn’t want to come home! I would 100% recommend this nursery to anyone who has little ones.

Our baby boy has settled into Woodlands amazingly! It’s such a joy and comfort to pass him over in the morning, knowing he is happy and going to have a great day! In his first month at Woodlands, he seems to have grown so much, so inquisitive and loving his nursery experience! The staff are all amazing
and he’s a smiling monster whenever he sees them. As mum to baby boy, I love seeing his updates and pics on the parents' app and the odd messages I get from some of the girls on how his day is going is really reassuring!
Reply from Lorna Marshall, Director of Education at The Woodlands Nursery and Pre-schoolHe definitely is a smiley little monster! My 2-year-old granddaughter has attended The Woodlands since being a baby. First and foremost, the staff's priority is always to the well-being, support and early years education of each child in their care. The team at the nursery provide outstanding learning methods appropriate for each age group,
be it in an educational or behavioural way, eg. forming relationships, behavioural or simply using table manners. Each child has opportunities to learn in both fun and fact-based settings giving them a wide range of experiences whilst learning. Trips out are arranged regularly, again, providing alternative ways to learn. My granddaughter looks forward to attending nursery and whatever activities will be there for her. I cannot praise the staff or setting enough for their constant commitment to each and every child.
Reply from lorna marshall, director of education at The Woodlands Nursery and Pre-schoolThank you so much for your review, your granddaughter is a delight and we have loved watching her grow over the last two years and cant wait to enjoy the rest of her early years experience.

A fantastic setting with which every day my daughter is learning not only how to bond with others but also about the world. She learns, touches, tastes and feels what the world has to offer through the setting and their education activities. Some days my daughter is asking to go to “nursy” as she calls
it and calls everyone their her friends. A true place where laughter and smiles are created knowing that my daughter is safe and being taken care of.

Wonderful setting with amazing, caring and just lovely staff. My son went to Woodlands for a year before school and he had the most wonderful time with workers who truly cared for him and got to know and appreciate him, as an individual. The setting is homely but the curriculum is impressively varied and creative. My son always enjoyed the home-cooked teas, the
outdoor play areas and all the many different things he learned about. I was confident and happy to leave my son in this setting where he thrived and made great friends.

Wonderful, friendly nursery and preschool, it was perfect for the transition for my little boy from preschool to starting reception at primary school. Strong emphasis on outdoor activities. Project-based learning so they would explore a topic over the course of a week or two.

The Woodlands collect my child from school every fortnight on a Friday and they do so with the utmost care. The nursery has always been amazing to us since she started back in 2019, until now. They are an extension to our family and I will always recommend these ladies to take care of the children in
the community.

Current Review Score: 10.0 (9.980)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 10 (9.980) out of 10 for The Woodlands Nursery and Pre-school is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 21 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 21 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Day Nursery is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.980 for The Woodlands Nursery and Pre-school is calculated as follows: ( (246 Excellents x 5) + (5 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 251 Ratings = 4.98
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for The Woodlands Nursery and Pre-school is based on 21 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the number of registered child places in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Day Nursery registered for a maximum of 50 child places has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 36 number of registered child places is 7.2, which has been reached with 21 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Day Nursery does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Hi, I am Lauren, the manager of The Woodlands Stars Day Nursery. I started my journey at The Woodlands as an apprentice back in 2014. I studied my Level 2 and 3 Diplomas in Children’s Learning and Development. I have worked my way from qualifying as an educator to a room leader, and then becoming a manager of the setting. I love working in childcare because no two days are the same, and creating memories with our little people is a one-in-a-million job to have.
