Ofsted rating for Co-op's Sussex Nursery is Outstanding (July 2023)

At Co-op Childcare Sussex they stay engaged with lots of activities from bike school to PE lessons to phonics activities. There's lots of diverse ways for your child to stay engaged and learn at their nursery. They also encourage children with brothers or sisters at nursery to take part in 'Sibling Diaries', a chance for siblings to spend time together and for nursery practitioners to share their experiences with parents/carers.

They have an app called ParentZone which will keep all parents/carers updated on how their little one is getting on, from photos of their day, meals eaten and assessments.

They are big on safety which is why all their staff are paediatric first aid trained and they have 5 Little Pioneers who help to share the Co-op Childcare's core values with their children.

They also have growing areas for food which they also eat as well as having regular visits to their local care home.

At Co-op Childcare Sussex, they house 5 spacious rooms catering for children from 3 months - 5 years with the latest technology, including interactive whiteboards and age-appropriate resources. Outside it has an adventure garden with tunnels, water play, slides, bike tracks and planting area.

The nursery is lovely: the staff are caring and understanding. Our daughter quickly developed a good relationship with her key person as well as the other carers in her group. Also the indoor and outdoor areas are fantastic. For us, it is also a big plus that I may feed my daughter in the cosy entrance
area before dropping her off/picking her up. I was a little sceptical about the use of digital learning technologies/a smart screen, as NHS and WHO alike recommend no screen time for children younger than 18-24 months. But it does not seem to be in use for the youngest ones that often. Also, may be useful for some new parents: It seems common in the UK to allow children older than six months to sleep on their tummy. If you do not wish so, it's good to mention that initially. Overall, we are very happy so far (having joined two months ago).

My daughter went to this nursery since she was 10 months, she has just started school and we all miss the nursery so much, the staff are lovely and my child has started school full of confidence and with a kid's understanding of what’s expected of her. I have and will recommend this nursery to anyone.

Although location was a significant factor in the initial choice of nursery, first impressions were very good. Several years on now and I would say that staff are attentive, caring and educated. The facilities are great, so many happy children crawling and running around. Mealtimes are nutritious and
can form part of parent involvement by cooking the recipes at home. Children have lots of sensory, physical and mental challenges and activities. And with help from your key person, these can also continue at home for more fun and learning! There's even more feedback and engagement available - trips out, cycling lessons, potty training, fussy food help, sleeping help. Available if you need it or want it, in a very supportive and non-judgemental way. I heartily recommend The Co-Operative nursery at Falmer.

Our twin boys absolutely LOVE the nursery and the staff and with good reason. Inventive, creative, supportive and caring. Great outdoor spaces with attention to detail. Our boys are growing in leaps and bounds with the nursery workers guidance and care. We're really looking forward to them moving up
to pre-school in September to continue their development. Thank you to all the staff, you work so so hard and do an amazing job, it really is appreciated.

This nursery has been fantastic for my child. I was very nervous about sending my daughter to nursery and as she hadn't been without me before and took a while to settle into the routine of being there. However, the staff were incredible at not only supporting my daughter but also making sure that I
felt really happy with the process. In the time that she has been there I have seen her learn so much from all the different activities they set up and each member of staff has been incredibly helpful and nurturing for my child. The facilities and resources there are wonderful. I am extremely happy that I chose this nursery and would recommend it to anyone who was thinking of sending their child there.

Both of my sons have attended this lovely nursery and they, and we, love it! Despite my initial reservations about the size of the rooms, when my eldest started there in preschool I quickly realised that my fears were unfounded and he thrived. My three year old has been there since the age of one and
also is thriving! The staff are kind, caring and treat each child as an individual. The facilities and garden space are second to none and the effort they put into making the rooms and the kids time there fun, informative and educational is amazing. Nothing but good words to say! Oh, and the food is also healthy and great!

The Cooperative Childcare Centre has been a consistent and stable place where I've felt confident leaving my twins for their entire pre-school years.
The staff are so genuinely caring and attentive to each child's needs.
The fabulous building and great range of resources has meant that our two have
been both nurtured and challenged, whilst actually enjoying their time there.
I have also felt very happy that the staff listen carefully to parents and are always supportive and helpful. We will miss coming to nursery when that start school in a few weeks.

Our 16-month-old is very settled and happy at nursery, they are always doing creative and fun things like getting the cars muddy then having a car wash setup and using various things to 'cook' in the mud kitchen.

My son is the original velcro baby, having never left my side his whole life. We live 100s of miles from our families, so have never really had anyone else around. I was sure I would have to give up work to look after him full time as I couldn't ever imagine him settling anywhere.
I was so wrong!
The management were (and still are) ever so patient with my incessant phone calls and questions, and each and every practitioner I have encountered has a real affection for the children in their care. My son's confidence has increased beyond belief, and I feel that this is celebrated by the nursery community.
He is cared for by an extremely skilled and passionate staff, in a truly beautiful surrounding. The nursery itself is stimulating and well designed. He enjoys healthy, home cooked meals and is well rested in the peaceful sleep areas throughout the day.
This is a very reasonably priced nursery for the outstanding experience offered. I cannot imagine sending my baby anywhere else.

My son has been at the nursery for almost 2 years now and absolutely loves it!
He has had 4 keyworkers so far and each has gone out of their way to really get to know him and create a strong bond to ensure he is comfortable when moving up through the rooms.

The nursery has been wonderful for both of my daughters. My eldest left the pre-school happy, confident and prepared for school, in which she is now thriving both in her learning and socially, despite starting the school knowing no other children there. I believe the wonderful care, support and environment
in pre-school was a major factor in this smooth transition.

My youngest daughter adores nursery and talks about the caring staff and the lovely friends she has met there. There is always interesting and fun activities provided, an amazing garden to play in and wonderful food (in which she always has a second serving!).

The staff are so warm, friendly and caring and show genuine interest in each child. All the children are caring and respectful of each other which makes for a kind, considerate and safe environment for them to play together. I always feel like I am leaving my daughter in safe hands in a place where she is very happy to be.

My son has been attending this nursery for six months now and the staff there have been 100% amazing. They really supported him during his settling in, they always have a friendly smile on their face when we enter the room, the GH room which he is in always looks fantastic with age appropriate activities
for him to participate in. I am aware that my child can be very emotional but his outstanding key person always makes time to settle him down and makes time to reassure me as a parent.

My son loves coming to his nursery now, he will ask for his key person in the morning and when we get to there will run straight to the doors, into the office where the management team make time to greet myself and my son. My son suffers with medical needs which the nursery have been fantastic with, ensuring it is given to him at the correct time and all the paperwork’s are up to date. I love the fact myself and husband can view his progress from home now that his journal is always up to date online.

I have had an amazing experience with the nursery right from me signing my son up to his time there now. I never felt awkward to ask silly questions or concerned about leaving him with the amazing girls there, I get full updates on his day and progress in learning new skills and developmentally stages.
Would highly recommend to others.

Current Review Score: 9.9 (9.894)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.9 (9.894) out of 10 for Co-op Childcare Sussex is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 19 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 19 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Day Nursery is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.978 for Co-op Childcare Sussex is calculated as follows: ( (223 Excellents x 5) + (5 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 228 Ratings = 4.978
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.916 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Co-op Childcare Sussex is based on 19 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.975
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the number of registered child places in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Day Nursery registered for a maximum of 50 child places has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 101 number of registered child places is 20.2. 19 Positive Reviews ÷ 20.2 = 0.941
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Day Nursery does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
