Ofsted rating for Co-op's Sussex Nursery is Outstanding (July 2023)

At Co-op Childcare Sussex they stay engaged with lots of activities from bike school to PE lessons to phonics activities. There's lots of diverse ways for your child to stay engaged and learn at their nursery. They also encourage children with brothers or sisters at nursery to take part in 'Sibling Diaries', a chance for siblings to spend time together and for nursery practitioners to share their experiences with parents/carers.

They have an app called ParentZone which will keep all parents/carers updated on how their little one is getting on, from photos of their day, meals eaten and assessments.

They are big on safety which is why all their staff are paediatric first aid trained and they have 5 Little Pioneers who help to share the Co-op Childcare's core values with their children.

They also have growing areas for food which they also eat as well as having regular visits to their local care home.

At Co-op Childcare Sussex, they house 5 spacious rooms catering for children from 3 months - 5 years with the latest technology, including interactive whiteboards and age-appropriate resources. Outside it has an adventure garden with tunnels, water play, slides, bike tracks and planting area.

My son is always happy going into nursery and has made a real connection with the staff there. His key person is always available to talk and works together with us, as parents, to solve any issues. For example, when it was noticed that my son became overwhelmed by busy periods in the day, strategies
were put in place that could be followed at nursery and at home creating a consistent approach, helping him to better cope in overwhelming situations.
I feel comfortable leaving my child in their care and know that his individual needs are supported. They have healthy, nutritious meals with menus changing regularly for variety.
The nursery regularly hosts sessions for parents to attend on subjects relating to early years, such as speech and language development, and encourage parent involvement. I would highly recommend this nursery to prospective families.

Our daughter has been attending the Co-op Childcare Day Nursery at Falmer since she was 14-months-old. She is enjoying her time there and we love to see her develop, explore and learn new things. The staff and management team are great and have been very supportive. The only thing we would like to see
different is if we could receive more photos and updates of her day there, only because everything sounds so exciting.

My daughter goes to Co-op Childcare Day Nursery Sussex and has the best time. She comes home pretty knackered from a full-on, active day (great for a good night’s sleep!), chats about her buddies and clearly learns a lot.
Overall, especially through Covid times, it’s clear that the deputy manager
and her team really care for the little people and are really caring and supportive.
If I was being fussy, I’d love more pictures in the app and a bit more consistency of the key worker but my little one doesn’t seem to care about either of those things and has a wonderful time at nursery - so that really is what matters, in my opinion. So highly recommend to those considering this nursery.

I have two children at the nursery - my oldest has been going for nearly 3 years now, my youngest a year and they both love the time they spend there. They talk with so much enthusiasm about the activities they get up to, the games they play and the songs they sing. They speak fondly about the friends
they've made and their keyworkers too. All the staff at the nursery are so friendly and welcoming, whenever they've had a wobble, they've been right by their side and putting a smile back on their face in no time.
My oldest is off to school in September and will miss the pre-school room, her teachers and friends. The pre-school room has given her a brilliant start for school with their phonics lessons and transition to school program.
Overall we are so happy with the nursery and couldn't fault them.

We are very happy with the nursery and especially how they have coped with the frequent changes to government guidelines and how they have communicated it all to us. My child in pre-school is getting a great start ahead of his transition to school in September and he enjoys his time at nursery. My younger
child is very happy going to nursery and enjoys the variety of games and activities he does.

The nursery provides a really caring and stimulating environment for kids to grow up in. We've now got our second child at the nursery, who's much more of a quiet soul than his very outgoing older sibling. We're very happy to see that the needs of very different kids are met, and their interests and
curiosity fostered.

This is a fantastic nursery! The well-being of the children is absolutely their top priority and they follow all of their procedures to the letter in order to keep the children safe in their care. The staff are friendly, caring and communication with parents is good. The provision is excellent, the
activities are fun, engaging and follow the interests of the children. There is clear progression as children move on up through the different rooms.

Since my daughter walked (or was actually pushed as she was 6 months old!) through the door at Little Pioneers, I knew she was in the best possible hands. The staff are nothing short of fabulous and every day she comes home worn out and very happy which is so lovely for me to see as the ‘working mother’
guilt is lessened knowing she’s had a fun and adventure packed day! She eats all the delicious, freshly prepared food and is thriving. Her vocabulary grows daily as does her interest in music, dancing, nature and arts. I’m provided with thorough updates each day and love the observation reports, next steps and photos that are uploaded to the app. The location of the nursery is extremely convenient and the amenities are plentiful. All in all, I cannot recommend Little Pioneers enough and a special thanks to the amazing key workers that look after my daughter so wonderfully!

The nursery teachers are so dedicated and enthusiastic I am so happy to send my son in every session. My son has a great time and is cared for and nurtured. He learns phonics, sign language and about growing things in the garden. All the staff are friendly and welcoming. I really think the nursery is
5 star.

My first daughter attended the nursery and it was amazing. We live, work and school in Lewes so ideally a nursery in Lewes would have been ideal but my daughter would not settle. I tried the Co-Opjust to see if she felt any different and she settled in straight away. She loves going to nursery and is
so happy. The staff are amazing. There is so much for the children to do, see and play.

Couldn't be happier with the nursery. Our little one started aged nine months after living most her life in lock-down and we were overwhelmed by how quickly she settled in, doing two days a week. This was all thanks to the nurture of the team. The setting is incredible and for us was one of the main
factors to have a purpose built space with big open rooms and large interactive outdoor areas is in this city, is simply incredible. She has developed so much there in her communication and physical development too. The food is superb and helped us be more ambitious at home. The detail in terms of updates each day is fabulous too. Staff always get back to you with any matters quickly. Also I love the initiative shown too, feeding back what the children in a room are into so you can emulate at home and help them develop more. They also have links with music makers and other classes linking into the wider community. Passionate and caring.

A very all rounded nursery with fabulous care and facilities. It truly deserves its outstanding rating based on facility, standard of care, the daily feedback provided and nurturing care they give our little ones. From the start, our settling in sessions were perfect. We have a lockdown baby but my
son has thrived and is a confident, happy little chap who loves to go to nursery. I guess if there was any feedback, it would be preferred to have some flexible drop off and pick up times as it’s done on rigid time slots. If we could have paid by the hour sessions, it would add that extra bit of convenience but overall, it’s a fabulous and well run nursery. Thank you!

My little one enjoys going to nursery, and she has built up bond with her carers, she eats well and sleeps well at nursery. We received assessments and recommendations at different stage of her development, and we found them very helpful. We are always keen to see pictures and videos of her at nursery!

My daughter has been attending Sussex nursery for almost a year and we could not be happier with our choice. The staff are wonderful and my daughter has close relationships with them. Staff turnover is low so they provide excellent continuity even during the pandemic. Children take part in a huge range
of activities from singing, painting, role play, reading... the list goes on! Facilities are excellent with purpose-built rooms and outdoor space. Reports are detailed and individually tailored with useful information. The menu is varied and healthy. Communication is excellent, in person and via the parent portal. I would highly recommend this nursery.

This nursery is fantastic! My daughter attended several years ago and my son current attends. The staff are friendly, attentive and helpful consistently and my son really loves the setting.
The nursery makes use of an app where parents get live updates on meals/nappies and detailed observations where
appropriate along with digital images. I really value the time and effort the staff go through to make the experience wonderful for the children, staff as well as the parents and carers.
I would recommend this nursery to any new parents and children.

My son absolutely loves the nursery and always looks forward to going. The staff are amazing and very supportive. It is also fantastic that the nursery is open 52 weeks of the year so it helps a lot for us parents that work 52 weeks of the year. I feel my son has really benefited from attending the
nursery from a developmental perspective and learning to make new friends. Couldn’t recommend this nursery enough!

My daughter has been at the Falmer Co-op Nursery since she was 6 months old and is now in preschool. The staff have been incredible at providing a nurturing, fun, stimulating environment for the children that is always tailored for the specific ages of the room. My daughter has formed real lasting bonds
with her key workers over the years and I feel so reassured that she's in such good hands while I'm at work. The management team are excellent with their communications and updates and everything seems to run seamlessly at the nursery. The food is all freshly prepared on-site and my daughter loves the food she is served and enjoys a much broader repertoire of food than she would be willing to try at home. Developmental milestones are logged and you are in regular contact with the key worker on matters that need extra support at home.
I have recommended this nursery to many friends and colleagues and think the staff all deserve medals for the hard work they put in!

We moved to England about half a year ago and just cannot believe what significant progress my daughter has made. Enrolling her in the nursery was a great decision because she has become so chatty in speaking English. Even though she moved up to another room a few months ago, she got great support in
transition. She sometimes goes to visit her 'old room' and meets with her 'old teachers'. Every time I pick her up, she feels very happy. The Nursery was built for child care purposes so all the rooms are in a good size and there is a nice sized garden. I would definitely recommend the Nursery.

This nursery is very special, my daughter has been in the preschool room since Sep 2019 and all the carers there are fantastic, they have a duty of care and help children to reach their own potential. The room manager is always listening to my comments and concerns about my daughters development and
I see my daughter growing in confidence as in learning, playing and enjoys time with other children. The nursery management is also good, always trying to help and improve and attracting good practices from other nurseries. Suggestions: it would be good for the food menus to be more balanced including more veggies, we recognized the effort of the management team to change this. The parent zone app is excellent but more updates on time during the day will be great. We think that having a Logbook again for parents to take home during weekends to do activities and share with nursery will be fantastic. This nursery is a wonderful place for children, I always recommend to all my friends at Uni.

Current Review Score: 9.9 (9.894)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.9 (9.894) out of 10 for Co-op Childcare Sussex is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 19 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 19 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Day Nursery is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.978 for Co-op Childcare Sussex is calculated as follows: ( (223 Excellents x 5) + (5 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 228 Ratings = 4.978
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.916 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Co-op Childcare Sussex is based on 19 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.975
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the number of registered child places in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Day Nursery registered for a maximum of 50 child places has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 101 number of registered child places is 20.2. 19 Positive Reviews ÷ 20.2 = 0.941
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Day Nursery does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
