Ofsted rating for Co-op's Sussex Nursery is Outstanding (July 2023)

At Co-op Childcare Sussex they stay engaged with lots of activities from bike school to PE lessons to phonics activities. There's lots of diverse ways for your child to stay engaged and learn at their nursery. They also encourage children with brothers or sisters at nursery to take part in 'Sibling Diaries', a chance for siblings to spend time together and for nursery practitioners to share their experiences with parents/carers.

They have an app called ParentZone which will keep all parents/carers updated on how their little one is getting on, from photos of their day, meals eaten and assessments.

They are big on safety which is why all their staff are paediatric first aid trained and they have 5 Little Pioneers who help to share the Co-op Childcare's core values with their children.

They also have growing areas for food which they also eat as well as having regular visits to their local care home.

At Co-op Childcare Sussex, they house 5 spacious rooms catering for children from 3 months - 5 years with the latest technology, including interactive whiteboards and age-appropriate resources. Outside it has an adventure garden with tunnels, water play, slides, bike tracks and planting area.

Our child loves attending the nursery! Their key person is so attentive and has helped them gain in confidence. The nursery facilities are great too, particularly the garden. Also the food provided is great, our child is a bit fussy but the staff always try to accommodate them and think of ways to introduce
the food so that they might be more inclined to eat it.

I noticed the difference on how fast my child is learning after nursery. I feel tranquil because, picture of my child doing the activities are shared often. This helps me to make me feel as I am not missing things. I appreciate the support from all the people working in there, from the chef, the managers,
the person working closely wuth my child.

Really dedicated and friendly staff. Beautiful, bright and spacious setting. The food is all freshly prepared and the garden is full of exciting toys, wooded area, quiet areas and sandpit/mud kitchen. Overlooking the Downs, it is rare to find such a well-equipped nursery. We are very happy with the
nursery and the staff.

Little Pioneers in Sussex is such a wonderful, caring and nurturing environment. My son has been attending since July 2025 and has settled in so well. He's really bonded positively with his key person and is getting fantastic opportunities to learn, play and thrive. The detailed monthly updates on his
development are really great insights, and it's so heartening to see how happy he is there. He also really does well with his food there and I'm often a little jealous of the menu. Massive thanks to the Little Pioneers team and a particular shout out to Zo!

Could not be happier with the nursery.
- the staff are friendly and caring
- the food is amazing
- the activities are brilliant
My boy is very clingy to me but as soon as we arrive I'm forgotten in favour of his key worker. There's no anxiety from either of us about him being there. They keep my
updated with messages and pictures.
The growth I have seen in him is amazing hes learnt so much already! Hes gone from being an anxious baby to a confident toddler.

Our son has been going to this nursery for well over a year, and we have always felt that he was well taken care of. The staff are supportive and helpful, especially when he struggled a bit with settling in the new group (when he moved up to an older age group). We think he's happy at the nursery, which
is all one can wish for!

We are new to the nursery, but they have worked really hard to help settle our son when starting nursery, particularly the staff in the ladybird room who have given him (and us parents) so much reassurance. We know it is a wonderful place and we look forward to seeing our son learn and grow there!

My son has attended the nursery since he was just 9 months old and is now 2½. The nursery has done absolute wonders for him. They are not just a nursery - they truly feel like family to him. There is nothing they wouldn't do for him or any of the children in their care.
My son has some speech difficulties,
and the support he receives has been amazing. His speech has come on so much since being there, and it has been incredible to see his confidence grow.
The food can be hit and miss for my very fussy little eater, but the staff always make sure there is always something available that he will eat, which I really appreciate. He has recently started refusing daytime naps, which can be challenging when the mini meltdowns happen, but the staff are always so caring, patient, and supportive.
Communication has been exceptional throughout, and I couldn't be more grateful for the love, care, and dedication they show my son every single day.

I cannot recommend this nursery highly enough. From the moment you walk through the doors, you are greeted by a warm, welcoming atmosphere that immediately puts both parents and children at ease. The staff are exceptional, genuinely caring, and deeply committed to creating a safe, stimulating, and nurturing
environment for every child.
The learning opportunities provided are outstanding and the outdoor space is excellent, with bike tracks, mud kitchen and a sand pit. Indoors, the rooms are bright, spacious, and filled with engaging resources tailored to different age groups.
Communication with parents is good. Through the family app, we receive daily updates, photos, and detailed feedback on meals, naps, and developmental progress.
In short, this nursery combines professional excellence with genuine warmth and it's a place where children flourish. If you're looking for a setting that is outstanding for early years education, this is the perfect choice.

Our son is extremely happy at the nursery. The site is excellent and brilliantly looked after and the staff are wonderful. We get the real sense that our son is well cared for and treated as part of the family. The enthusiasm with which staff speak about his progress and participation reflects how committed
they are to his development and the quality of his experience there. I would happily recommend the nursery to anyone :)

The staff are so personal always creating time for a chat and update and putting the children first, forming firm bonds that have aided their development. The nursery has a lovely outdoor space which was vital to me for my children. They always safeguard appropriately, ensuring who picks up and that
they are approved. The food is varied and healthy, allowing for my exposure to different foods. Words can't describe how much of a relief it was finding a nursery that's so accommodating and child/family focused, really puts my mind at ease.

The staff is so helpful, kind, caring and supportive. We have been very fortunate to have a place for our second child here. My older one was struggling with her language and behaviour when we move to England, but the coop staff made a huge impact on her and we were very grateful for it. Thank you a
lot for all your hard work!

The Nursery and its staff are truly exceptional. Throughout every challenge we've faced, whether it was settling in, sickness, or welcoming a new baby. The support we've received has been outstanding. The facilities are top notch, clean, well maintained and welcoming, with spacious outdoor areas that
continue to improve. The care and activities provided to our little one on a weekly basis are thoughtful, creative, and full of love. I can only speak in the highest regard for everyone working there. They consistently go above and beyond. We also appreciate how well informed we are about updates and changes, activities and learning they do, which is incredibly important to us. We are so grateful for the wonderful care and attention our child receives at this nursery.

This nursery had a recent Ofsted rating of Outstanding and it shows. The staff are lovely and welcoming, my children go in happily and have lots to tell me at the end of the day. We get daily updates and handovers upon collection. The app posts weekly observations with photos and suggestions of things
we can do at home to help development. My children have both flourished, making friendships, refining their fine and gross motor skills, developed their language and knowledge covering lots of exciting topics which the children help set. The two outdoor garden spaces are large, and well catered for the different stages of development with lots of toys including slides, sandpit and trikes to play with. The food is great for dietary requirements including veganism which was a big plus point for us. I would recommend this nursery to anyone who wants their child to learn in a safe, fun, thriving environment.

Current Review Score: 9.9 (9.894)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.9 (9.894) out of 10 for Co-op Childcare Sussex is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 19 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 19 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Day Nursery is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.978 for Co-op Childcare Sussex is calculated as follows: ( (223 Excellents x 5) + (5 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 228 Ratings = 4.978
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.916 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Co-op Childcare Sussex is based on 19 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.975
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the number of registered child places in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Day Nursery registered for a maximum of 50 child places has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 101 number of registered child places is 20.2. 19 Positive Reviews ÷ 20.2 = 0.941
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Day Nursery does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
