Acorn at Westcroft is a nursery in the Westcroft retail district, offering a spacious and well-equipped range of rooms for children to play and explore.

There are four small, outdoor play areas and in keeping with Acorn's strong emphasis on outdoor play and learning, the nursery has its own Forest School site at the nearby Howe Park Wood.

The nursery has a full-time cook and all meals and snacks are freshly prepared on site. The experienced and well qualified staff team are very warm and welcoming and look forward to showing prospective parents around the nursery.

The nursery offers Forest School sessions that take place weekly for older children as well as many planned events throughout the year such as; sports days, graduations, messy stay and plays and cultural themed days. The nursery is also passionate about getting involved with the local community, regularly visiting a group of elderly people at the Shenley Parish Council building nearby; hosting visits from the fire brigade, police, dentist and vets and arranging days where parents can get involved in nursery life through reading, cooking, show and tell and joining the nursery for forest school sessions.

A home visit from the nursery manager and your child’s key person is offered to all new families as children benefit from meeting their key person in a familiar environment, before attending the nursery for settling-in sessions.

  • Fees are inclusive of all meals, snacks, drinks (including approved formula milk), nappies and activities.
    We do not charge registration fees, only a £100 deposit which is refunded against the first month’s fees. We don’t charge for settling in sessions, but we do expect payment for all nursery fees to be paid up front at the beginning of each month, which is standard practice for all childcare providers. We do not charge for bank holidays, our four training days each year, or for the three days closure between Christmas and New Year. We do, however, charge for days children don’t attend through illness or holidays, apart from exceptional circumstances.

I am very happy leaving my 2 children at Acorns every day. They are very happy here, well looked after, they eat well, there are varied daily activities and good outdoor space. I am kept up to date with what's going on through the app and can see daily photos. Any questions or concerns are dealt with
efficiently.

I love this nursery and the staff. The Squirrels room has been outstanding in looking after my high-spirited, super independent child and ensuring she has a wide variety of indoor and outdoor activities to explore. They helped me tremendously in her potty training too - which is no small task. Love
that they actively encourage the kids to be social with each other and do both organised and free play. My daughter loves the food at her nursery - often comes home with a full tummy. Highly recommend.

My daughter has been attending this nursery for 18 months and I can’t speak highly enough of it. All the staff and management are wonderful, so helpful and friendly. My daughter has recently gone through a very clingy phase and they were so good with her and gave me lots of advice on how to handle it.
The food is great too, she eats much better at nursery than she does at home! They also have forest school lessons which she absolutely loves. Really recommend Acorn at Westcroft for anyone looking for daycare.

Both of my kids enjoy their time in nursery a lot. They are properly looked after by the practitioner in the nursery. They care so much love and care. The nursery also host brilliant events for parent involvement. Must not forget to mention the daily activities being arranged for the kids are brilliant

Happy with my child's learning progress. Confidence has grown and this has been reflected at home.
Meals could be updated here accurately on the app as sometimes when we look they are missed off.
Clothes could be better organised, sometimes staff say they can't find coat, bag etc.

My daughter has only joined Acorn Day Nursery since July and in such a short time she had settled in so quickly, has her arms for the girls to take her which has helped me settle too! She gets a wide variety of food and she loves playing here. Thank you so much!

Acorn Nursery has been excellent for my little one. My daughter went to Acorn Nursery for 2 years and she loves every part of it. Staff are amazing in helping with all the needs and accommodating. The forest school is a hit as we both parents are full-time working.

My little girl was sick at nursery. As she had vomited the staff called me and I arranged for a relative to collect her as they could arrive quicker. They told me that when they arrived the staff in the baby room were being exceptionally kind and gentle with a very poorly little girl who wasn't feeling
her normal self.


This was lovely feedback to hear but I am pleased to say it doesn't surprise me at all. It is the feature I prize the most about Acorn Day Nursery at Westcroft that the staff are consistently kind, gentle, and respectful to the children. I feel safe knowing my children are looked after as I would at home.

Thanks to Acorn for their support for all the developments my little one had! Acorn was so caring kind and patient! Especially during the pandemic, Acorn took much care in terms of health and safety, and childcare we had no worries. Thanks again for this.
My little one loved mud kitchen and Forest
School, Zumba, dance, yoga etc.
We as parents we get regular feedback on our little one's progress and daily activities. Really appreciate all the hard work and big thanks to Acorn Team!
