Bright Horizons Southgate Day Nursery and Preschool (formerly Bright Horizons Active Learning Southgate) opened in 2011 and is a stunning purpose-designed facility.

The nursery occupies a fabulous fully refurbished traditional building where great emphasis is placed upon big windows to maximise the feeling of light and space within the building, the aim to bring the outdoors in!

The nursery offers extracurricular Boogie Mites and myHappymind programmes, and unusually for a London nursery, it has a large garden at the rear where children can play sports and enjoy all sorts of outdoor activities.

The nursery was proud to be rated 'Good' by Ofsted in August 2022.

Lovely staff have made my son feel loved and helped him to settle in quickly. They have learnt his habits, likes and dislikes, which has meant that they can quickly identify if there is anything wrong or if my son is upset. I'm very pleased with my son's appetite at nursery too. He loves the food offered,
variety is great.

Recently the nursery hosted a marvellous picnic in the park (sports day) for all children and parents. Staff were very engaging, encouraging children to participate in activities and cheering them on wonderfully. We could see a lot of smiles on many faces; it was a great day which was fabulously hosted.
My children are super happy and content here. They run to hug members of staff when they see them in the morings. Seeing this is reassuring knowing they are safe and comfortable in happy surroundings. Well done to all staff especially management at Active Learning Southgate. You are commendable.

This review is a very long time coming. Last year the team did an amazing job with their summer fair. The team made the best possible use out of the space available. They had great fun ideas and all got involved with baking and handling the stalls.
My child loves the nursery and that is all because
of the amazing friendly team they have. This is my second child and also the second nursery that I've had my child in so I have a lot to compare with.
Well done everyone!!

Our child joined AL Southgate (ALS) December 2016 for Preschool after we withdrew him from a private nursery due to dissatisfaction and neglect. We had contemplated ALS earlier but was initially put off by the logistics – we deeply regret this and wish we had placed our child there from the start as
we have found the quality of care by the practitioners there to be quite simply outstanding. Classes are not chaotic but are run by passionate, caring staff with a real focus on preparing the children for school. The Early Years Curriculum is given careful attention whilst the environment remains caring, fun and nurturing. The Staff seem happy, are professional and caring and led by superb, transparent management who are experienced with getting the best from their employees and also communicating well with parents. Our child has thrived since his admission to ALS and enjoys each day here. ALS is truly at the top of its game and stands out as being exceptional in London.

My daughter has had issues with potty training due to withholding stools which is very common but nonetheless stressful for us all. She moved up in nursery last week and her new teacher decided to have a chat with her and also get one of the older children to join in about why it is not scary to use
the loo. That afternoon she made more progress than we had in months, even though we have a long journey ahead, they made more progress with our daughter than any doctor we have visited. Thank you.

Bright Horizons Active Learning Nursery has a unique approach to learning and we are delighted that our child has a nursery teacher as well as dedicated art, sports, and music teachers. The staff are lovely and the range of activities they do with the children is very impressive. Best of all is that

My Son has been attending Active Learning Southgate for over a year now and I can truly say the nursery has had a positive impact on him. He loves nursery and is keen to learn.


The nursery offers a wide range of different activities and provides quality feedback on the child each day.


Food is

cooked on site for the children and parents are able to see what's on offer on the notice board each day. The nursery also has a book library which the children can make use of. Management are friendly and approachable with the office door always open.


The nursery location is also ideal with Southgate tube station nearby. Needless to say, I've recommended the nursery to my friends and family with little ones!

Active Learning is a friendly and professional nursery. My daughter loves going and has come on in leaps and bounds. I get informed every day of her progress and behaviour, and she actually asks to go to school. I would certainly recommend Active Learning Nursery.

My 4-year-old has attended this nursery for over 2 years. He is constantly guided and supported by two ladies in the nursery. The menu is good because it challenges to try new things. I've noticed an improvement within 2016 when the principle joined. Although the consistency came from the vice principle
and whenever through many administration changes. I'm happy, very happy with the quality of care, cleanliness and support at the nursery. Particularly impressed by "sports day" and "graduation" which were very much better than previous years thanks to the team!

My daughter is almost 3 and has been at Active Learning since she was 5 months old so has experienced a variety of rooms and was taken care of by a considerable number of staff. We are very pleased with the care and education she has received and continues to do at Active Learning.
Whilst there have
been quite a few changes in terms of administration over the last couple of years we are delighted with the current set-up and feel it's definitely the best the nursery has been run. The small team in charge are clearly competent, helpful and, importantly, open to suggestions from parents on how to improve any general aspects. Their staff also seem fairly happy whilst doing their job and show a real interest and care for the development of the children under them. All in all, we have a great relationship with all the staff and feel that the collaboration between parents and childcare provider is really working in developing our child, improving her social skills and her education.

My eldest child started at the nursery in 2012 and we have seen the nursery grow up from one under 2s room to 3 and to full capacity of over 2s rooms. This has brought challenges with it, but under the current management the nursery and children are flourishing. The standard of care and teaching is
excellent and I'm confident that my child will start school in September with a wide range of skills from academic in numeracy and phonics and a love of science to social and emotional in having empathy to the feelings of his friends. The structured teaching sets the nursery apart and I feel my child has benefitted immensely from this learning environment and has an enjoyment of sports from the additional lessons the nursery provides. The staff provide a caring environment and respond well to feedback. I always feel my children's welfare and wellbeing is at the centre.


Thank you to the staff and management for all you do to ensure my children's happiness and wellbeing.

Brilliant nursery, my eldest went to the nursery full time from 3 years old, he was very happy at the nursery and it gave him a great grounding for school. All the activities are excellent from sports to science lessons. My youngest has been going to the nursery since she was 8 months and she also loves
it. The staff in the baby rooms are so caring and really bond with all the children, the children seem to love the activities too, especially baby yoga! She has now moved upstairs to be with the older children and the transition to the new room was very good, my little one is now completely settled. The support given by all the staff and management is first class in all aspects, eg, potty training. The facilities are great, and both my kids loved the meals provided. It's not the cheapest of nurseries, but worth spending the money when I see how happy my kids are.
