Bright Horizons Southgate Day Nursery and Preschool (formerly Bright Horizons Active Learning Southgate) opened in 2011 and is a stunning purpose-designed facility.

The nursery occupies a fabulous fully refurbished traditional building where great emphasis is placed upon big windows to maximise the feeling of light and space within the building, the aim to bring the outdoors in!

The nursery offers extracurricular Boogie Mites and myHappymind programmes, and unusually for a London nursery, it has a large garden at the rear where children can play sports and enjoy all sorts of outdoor activities.

The nursery was proud to be rated 'Good' by Ofsted in August 2022.

This is a wonderful nursery that both my children have attended. I would recommend it without question. The staff and management are outstanding. They create such a warm and loving environment and really get to know the individual needs of the children. It’s clear they are also invested in the development
of the children and celebrate the milestones that are reached and provide encouragement and opportunities to try activities they wouldn’t get to at home. My most recent experience of the baby room has been exemplary and it really feels like my child has been treated like extended family.

Amazing staff who are wonderfully supportive and caring about the children. The curriculum and activities the children are provided with are brilliant. My children are super happy going to this nursery and as a parent, I wouldn’t want or expect anything more!

My boys have been at Bright Horizons Southgate for the past 3.5 years, the staff are always super friendly and always willing to help. This week I was late to collect my boys because of train issues and the staff were absolutely incredible! They were really really understanding when I called to explain
I would be late, and when I finally arrived (in a completely exhausted and sweaty state) they went out of their way to help me calm down, take a breath and get my boys home safely. It’s times like this when the incredible staff really go out of their way to help! Thanks to all the staff at this amazing nursery, you are all very very appreciated.

My two boys absolutely love this nursery (Bright Horizons Southgate Day Nursery and Preschool), as soon as we arrive each morning they storm inside the school as they can't wait to meet their teachers and friends and each afternoon when they are picked up they look happy and fulfilled. They have thrived,
and developed so many skills thanks to the amazing teaching staff. Moreover, the management is second to none - they are extremely organised, immediately respond to any queries parents have (however minor or urgent), they take all issues seriously and they respect parents' wishes and concerns. They respond to emails and telephone calls immediately and one can easily tell that this nursery is run very efficiently. I have not encountered this in our previous nurseries and I have been consistently impressed by the Southgate team. The staff always smile and know everyone's names, there is no sense of chaos and we are so so grateful to have this nursery in our lives!
(my boys also love the food at the school!)

Our kids really enjoy attending this nursery. The Manager and Deputy are great and run a really ‘tight-ship’. The Room Leaders and key workers are also really great and well-liked by our kids, however, there can be a lot of changes in support staff (particularly in age 2-3 room) which can be unsettling.


Toddlers get to spend a lot of time in the garden, but it is less when they get older which is a shame. It would be nice for older kids to have an opportunity for more free-flow play between indoors and garden, although this would be logistically very difficult with the stairs.


The facilities are great and the nursery is always very clean, with good heating / air-conditioning. Our kids both eat really well at nursery too.


The nursery is one of the more expensive ones in the area, but has long hours and is close to the station if you are commuting. The car park is shared with other users and is a nightmare at peak times, but nothing they can do about that really.

Our boys have been attending the nursery from a young age and we absolutely love it.
Staff are well trained, very kind and helpful.
They encourage you to have meetings with your child's key teacher and they act very quick if you ask for support/advice. Our eldest is in preschool now and he is a bit
shy but they have supported him in so many ways!
Our youngest is in 2-3’s room and he totally adores his music sessions. He also speaks all the time about his teachers in such a loving way that we can tell he enjoys his time there.
It is a relief for working parents to find a place where your children can develop in a safe and loving environment.

Both my children have attended Bright Horizons Southgate and have thrived from the baby room right the way through to Pre-school!
The staff create a very caring, nurturing environment which is indicative of how quickly they settled and feel happy there.
They provide so many lovely, stimulating activities
and also the right level of educational learning to get them ready for the school setting.

My 1-year-old boy started last month and I am very happy with the nursery. The staff supported us a lot through the settling-in period, and my little one loves going there. The staff are very caring and sweet, but also very organised. The app is absolutely brilliant as you get info on how their day

My daughter has loved her time both in the baby room and the toddler room at Bright Horizons, Southgate. The nursery staff have taken wonderful care of her, and it's been incredible watching how her confidence has grown so much in such a short time at nursery! My daughter has particularly loved the
singing and music sessions and comes home singing the songs learnt at nursery. Thank you to all the incredible staff for providing such a nurturing environment where my daughter has really flourished.

I have known the team at Southgate, Bright Horizons Nursery for five years. They are warm, helpful, attentive and always help when they can. I will miss the team when my youngest leaves this year. Thank you to the manager, deputy manager and two other staff members in particular and the team.

It’s a superb preschool and I’m so glad both my daughters are there. One’s in preschool and the other in the baby room.
With preschool my daughter is not only looked after and cared for but she’s also being taught and prepared for primary school. She’s already learning how to read and write, as well
as creatively explore the world around her and where she sees her place in it. Bright Horizons has also been excellent in socialising her and showing her how to interact with others in which there are expectations that she is respectful and kind and that she expects them to be respectful and kind to her.

My second child is currently at the nursery. My first was there for three years and I can't recommend it highly enough. Yes, it is not the cheapest, but when you consider how much they support early years development, it is great value for money. I also love the staff there and completely trust them
with my children.

My daughter started at Bright Horizons, Southgate, when she was 3 months old, gradually moving to full-time. She was there for four years and seven months and Bright Horizons, Southgate has become part of our life since. The nursery is very well managed with happy, yet disciplined staff. The management
were extremely accommodating with our requirement, especially at the beginning as I had to go back straight to work. Can't imagine coping with work/baby, though with family's help during the sleepless nights without Bright Horizons, Southgate's care and support. My daughter's time there has been smooth sailing with any issues being addressed accordingly. My daughter left as a confident young lady who can read independently, write and paint well and socially adequate. Couldn't have achieved all these without Bright Horizons, Southgate.

Our experience at Bright Horizons, Southgate, has been consistently excellent. Our daughter has attended from 14 months old and has flourished in each age setting. Her time in preschool has been particularly good. The staff particularly her key worker, take excellent care of her and we have watched
her confidence grow and her relationships with peers and teachers flourish. We could not be happier with all aspects of the setting. The management and all staff have been fantastic.

Very supportive and friendly staff at this nursery who helped our son to settle in and made his experience of nursery a happy and positive one. It was great to see photos on the app of activities he had been engaged in. We are really glad that our son attended this nursery from August 2021 as it has
developed his confidence and social interactions with his peers as well as his independence, preparing him well for starting Reception. We would definitely recommend this nursery!

The most outstanding and caring nursery.
My daughter, (aged 2), has attended Bright Horizons since April 2021. I was very nervous about sending her to nursery as her first year was during the lockdowns! But she settled in within days and we had very reassuring, detailed and regular updates. My daughter
has flourished during her time there. She even took her first steps in the toddler's room (her walking was delayed as she is hypermobile and a very cautious little girl). But she clearly feels safe to grow and overcome her fears due to the encouraging and compassionate staff around her. She comes home most nights with the most spectacular artwork! I feel that the nursery is incredibly nurturing and that Layla (and me and my husband) are very much part of the Bright Horizons community! I would definitely recommend it to others without hesitation!
