Tynemouth Nursery at Billy Mill is prominently and conveniently located at the end of the Coast Road. In December 2021 the nursery was judged Outstanding by its Ofsted inspection.

The building was originally two substantial semi-detached houses and together now it forms a lovely sized nursery with Tynemouth's unique homely feel.

With fantastic homely rooms and a large outdoor play area Tynemouth Nursery at Billy Mill, recently refurbished and re-equipped in 2020, offers a catalyst of activities to enable children to learn through play and fulfil their full potential.

The nursery is proud to have the prestigious Millie's Mark accreditation awarded in 2018, having this award demonstrates the nursery's commitment to going above and beyond the minimum requirements for keeping children safe. They also got the Portage Stamp of Approval in 2025, a very proud moment for all involved.

All staff working directly with children not only hold a paediatric first aid certificate but are also competent in how to apply this in practice.

I would thoroughly recommend Tynemouth Nursery at Billy Mill to send your child. Staff are very friendly and approachable, with trust and care apparent. We feel confident that our son is well cared for throughout the day and if anything was untoward we would be notified. The food and drinks supplied
are varied and wholesome and with the children all eating together many valuable skills are offered to the children and the occasional trips out and about are very well received.

My son has attended Tynemouth Nursery at Billy Mill for over a 6 months now and I can't thank the staff enough for all of the help and support they have given him and also the family as we are first-time parents and they have supported us through a lot with our child's development and have gone above
and beyond to support him with his speaking. The nursery is very homely and all of the staff are very welcoming when you arrive on a morning or on an evening collecting and they are always happy to let you know what he has been up to on a day to day basis and all the amazing activities that they do with him.

Our 2 children have attended holiday club since it opened and both love it. The activities on offer are varied each day during the holidays, one day they could be out doing a treasure hunt and the next day building a Lego tower or learning street dance. I love the structured activity programme with
morning and afternoon activities but also allowing free play time, where there is a football table, colouring-in resources, building blocks, water/sand trays and so much more to choose from! Our children keep asking how long to ‘holiday club time’ which says a lot about their enjoyment of attending! We feel it is great value for money as the full day pass includes breakfast, a healthy homemade lunch, snacks and tea, as well as free-flowing fresh fruit and water which is really important to us! The staff are great and very welcoming, encouraging the children to mix with each other, there seems to be quite a few children who are going time and again as we have noticed our children forming friendships

Amazing nursery, staff are all so friendly. They are great with my daughter. I would highly recommend this nursery to friends and family. My daughter is coming on leaps and bounds since starting in January and she’s been made to feel so welcome. This nursery and its staff deserve 5 stars.

My son is having the best time here, he gets to socialise with other children his own age and is learning to be independent in an environment I know he is safe and properly cared for. The staff are absolutely amazing, they are always helpful and polite and do a wonderful job of taking care of the children.
They make sure the needs of my child are always met. They have helped my child to blossom into such a lovely little boy. I am looking forward to seeing how far my child progresses with these amazing women.

My granddaughter used to attend the nursery and now attends the Holiday Club. She gets so excited when she knows she is going to holiday club and asks what she will be doing and if they are going on any trips as she has so far been on excursions to the beach, cinema and to museums. The excursions are
always well planned and supervised by the holiday club staff.

My two children have both been at this nursery for two years and I have nothing but praise. Friendly approachable staff, lovely food and lovely pictures and crafts. I can't thank the staff enough for how much my children have come on with singing songs, counting and even learning French. A fantastic

I absolutely love this nursery, my son has come on leaps and bounds since he attended. All key workers who have worked alongside my son have built up an amazing bond with him. So glad I decided to have my son attend this setting. Overall outstanding.

We are so happy with our choice of nurseries for our son. I visited so many nurseries when looking to choose one and I kept coming back to Tynemouth Nursery at Billy Mill. There is such a cosy, welcoming atmosphere whenever you visit. The staff are wonderful. They are super friendly and helpful and
I feel confident leaving my son in their capable, caring hands. The resources and learning spaces are set up beautifully and change regularly. There are always thoughtful play setups and activities happening in the rooms. I enjoy seeing my sons progress in his online learning book and home school communication is excellent. It's always nice to have a little chat when you pick your child up. I feel like, even though my son has only been attending four or five months, all the staff know my son well and provide a stimulating, nurturing environment for my son to thrive in. My little boy absolutely loves his time at nursery. He has come on leaps and bounds since starting. The staff are amazing and I have no doubt that he is well looked after when he is there, which has made the transition for me so much easier than I had anticipated. He very much looks forward to getting
into his class to see all his little friends which I find so comforting. It gets a 5 out of 5 from me and my little boy.

The nursery staff are so welcoming and lovely. My daughter went to nursery here for 2 years and now attends the holiday club. She is always so excited to go back because they do so many fun things for the kids. They really have bent over backwards for my child's dietary requirements which is hugely
appreciated. Couldn't fault them one bit.

My daughter used to go to the nursery from 9 months old and once they opened a holiday club, we jumped at the opportunity to go back. My grandsons have attended holiday club here a few times now and they love it! There is always something new and different on. The boys have enjoyed meeting animals, parties, face-painters and the last time they were there, they had a lesson in playing the African drums!
All food was provided for them
too and the special activities were included in the price!
They always come home happy and can't wait to go back.

My two little girls have come to this nursery since they were both babies. They settled straight away and I was happy to leave them with the lovely nursery staff as they make you feel comfortable, welcome and reassure you that your child will be in good hands. They both have learnt so much from this
nursery and I will be sad when my youngest leaves next year for school. I would definitely recommend this nursery if you want your child to feel safe and happy - to meet their needs this is the place to put them.

My little boy has been attending the holiday club, which has been absolutely brilliant. He loves it, even though he went in knowing no-one, he wants to go in on days when he isn't even supposed to!
The staff have made him feel so welcome and the range of activities and the food have been excellent.
The
nursery was also able to fit my little one into the nursery at the same time which has been a godsend. It is so difficult to find childcare for two kids of different ages. It has really helped me out massively this summer. My smallest son has really enjoyed the nursery and has enjoyed being able to spend time with his brother too. The range of activities that he has been involved in has also been excellent. I can't recommend this nursery highly enough.

Andrea McLaughlan

Job Title: Nursery Manager Joined: 2003

Andrea has over 20 years of experience in Childcare (Level 4) and has been a part of the TNG family since 2003, working her way up from a Nursery Nurse to Nursery Manager within her time at Billy Mill.


She is a mother of 3 (all of whom have attended the Nursery setting!).


Andrea is passionate about environmental sustainability and supporting children's learning through natural materials, thus creating a warm home-away-from-home feel.
