Refurbished in 2020 and located conveniently right in the heart of Newcastle, Little Pioneers Nursery & Pre-School Newcastle is spacious and bright, with large rooms for each age group and a sensory room for storytime.

They are big on happy children and that's why they take care of each other and the world, have regular visits to their local care homes, and have a growing area for food. They have 5 little pioneers who help share their core values with the children, from making their own choices to encouraging them to be independent.

The nursery is silver eco schools accredited, a programme that sees children lead the way in making real environmental differences. Their staff are also all paediatric first aid trained as they are big on safety.

They also have an app, ParentZone, which keeps mums and dads informed about life at nursery, from photos, meals eaten and even toilet training progress!

There are four home rooms with the nursery split into the following age groups: three months to one-year-olds, one to two-year-olds, two to three-year-olds and three to five-year-olds.

My daughter loves this nursery. The staff are lovely and helpful. The environment is always clean, tidy and well set up. My child has friends and is very settled. I have no concerns with any aspect of this nursery.

My son started in the Caterpillar room in January after having attended another nursery which we were not happy with. What a difference! Despite doing the settling in period over Christmas and at fairly short notice, the staff made an obvious effort to help my son settle in. For example, after his first
day, they mentioned that he loved books and was very ticklish, both of which are very true. I had not told the staff either of these things so they had clearly made an effort to get to know my little boy. When I drop him off in the mornings he toddles off happily to play now. The staff all come across as very professional and clearly care about the children. The rooms are large and have a wide variety of toys and activities. My son seems to like most of the food. The online 'Parentzone' facility is very reassuring, particularly in the early days. I have already recommended this nursery to a friend.

I really can't recommend the nursery enough. My daughter has been in the nursery for around 15 months now and every experience I have had has been positive. The staff are amazing, they are so pleasant accommodating and you can see how comfortable the children are with them. There are different activities
for the children to take part in every day and they encouraged to develop the areas where they aren't so confident. I honestly would not have to dedicate to my daughter to develop her as much as she has been at nursery. Thank you so much. Parent Zone is also another great addition

I couldn't ask for any more from the staff who work in my babies room. You can tell every member of the team in the room genuinely cares for each child they work with.
The only downside to the nursery I would have to say is management, the lack of communication with parents is very poor and some staff
in the office are very unapproachable and standoffish. However, like I say, I really cannot fault the staff who actually work within the rooms and 1 on 1 with the babies.

This is a fantastic nursery with brilliant staff, large rooms and central location. My son has been in this nursery from 9 months old and I wouldn't have put him anywhere else, he loves it. I have full confidence in all of the staff and can see they really care for the children. I have recommended this
nursery to two friends at work who have put their children here and now also love it. Cant recommend it enough.

Our son is very happy at nursery. He has received fantastic support, most recently with toilet training and general development of social skills, and he is fond of the staff who look after him. He is about to move up from toddlers to preschool and we are very happy with how he's being gradually introduced
to the new setting.

He recently became a big brother and having the continuity of nursery during this big change in his life was a great help. We're really grateful to all the staff and especially his key worker for all their great work with him.

Good location, we have never had any major issues with the nursery itself. We normally have issues with invoices being sent on time or wiring money to then have it taken, but that isn't the nursery or it's management's fault as payments are central.

We have 2-3 key workers who are our favourite,

some temporary staff aren't great but that's not a bother. The most important thing is that our daughter is happy there and they always do what we ask with regards to her care... nothing seems a bother.

My 3-year-old son has attended the nursery for over a year and I am very happy with the care he receives. Every day the children take part in different activities and he thoroughly enjoys his time there. He is a fussy eater but the staff have encouraged him to try different foods which he is willing
to at home now. I feel like my son has become less introvert since starting at the cooperative and finds it easy to make friends. I am comfortable leaving him in their care as I know that they offer a stimulating and safe environment for children to learn and also have fun.

My baby girl has been attending the Co-operative Nursery since September 2017. She has been having fun and learning new things since day one and has amazing staff looking after her. I am very happy with this nursery. We have also really enjoyed our Christmas party back in December!

We love this nursery, it was the first and only nursery we looked at as we liked it straight away. The security system is excellent. Our child has been going there since he was 10 months old and he is thriving. He is an excellent talker and is very confident around other children. The food they serve
is excellent, all good for them. They do brilliant Christmas parties for the children. I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a fantastic nursery for their child. All the staff are great, they show a lot of care towards our child.

Our son adjusted really well to nursery since he started a couple of months ago. The staff at the nursery spent a lot of time settling him in as he was quite nervous to leave us for the first few visits. The intro sessions where we could attend with our son really helped and the time that his named
nursery staff member has put it with him really shows through. We can honestly say our baby is developing into a more confident and happy little person as a result of attending this nursery and this is to all of the staff's credit.

I would highly recommend the nursery to other parents. The care given to the children is fantastic and the encouragement to learn and develop is delightful to see. My daughter has created such a strong bond with all of the staff members within the nursery. I feel like the staff really get to know the
children and adapt to different children's needs.

The staff are sensitive to the needs of the children they work with and I am so pleased that my daughter is growing up to be sensitive to the differences of others. My daughter loves her time in nursery and always looks forward to seeing her friends, the staff and learning new things.

My daughter has attended The Co-operative Childcare Newcastle Nursery, she has always enjoyed going there. The staff have always cared for her as if she was her own family. The nursery provides a great stimulating learning environment. They have good home-style meals for the children. I would gladly

Such an amazing nursery! Would recommend them very highly.
Lovely friendly staff who can’t do enough to help you. There’s such a great atmosphere you can see why the same staff have stayed there years and years.
Delicious healthy food for the children each day :-).
Always different and interesting
toys and activities planned… probably why they got an OFSTED outstanding assessment!
I also think it’s really helpful that they’re open longer hours than most nurseries: 7.30am-6.30pm.
My twin boys go there and they’ve always loved it… in fact, even if we walk past on a non-nursery day they’re pointing at the door wanting to go in!

I am always really happy with the care provided by the staff that regularly take care of my son and feel that I have a good relationship with them too. I have found it easy to make suggestions to my son's carers with regards to his care. My son is happy to be there and gets excited when he sees his
key workers. I am happy with the level of information I get about his day when I pick him up. I really enjoyed taking home some of his artwork the other day and I would like to take home more of that.

I had a bad experience with childcare prior to my daughter starting here so was very anxious, to say the least, however, I could not recommend these guys highly enough. They have been absolutely amazing and have made my daughter so welcome! She is extremely well cared for so well that when we arrive
she gets really excited to be there, the staff are always super helpful and nothing is too much trouble. Amazing childcare!!

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.9 (9.914) out of 10 for Little Pioneers Nursery & Pre-School, Newcastle is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 30 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 30 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Day Nursery is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.914 for Little Pioneers Nursery & Pre-School, Newcastle is calculated as follows: ( (333 Excellents x 5) + (24 Goods x 4) + (2 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 360 Ratings = 4.914
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Little Pioneers Nursery & Pre-School, Newcastle is based on 30 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the number of registered child places in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Day Nursery registered for a maximum of 50 child places has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 116 number of registered child places is 23.2, which has been reached with 30 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Day Nursery does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
