Refurbished in 2020 and located conveniently right in the heart of Newcastle, Little Pioneers Nursery & Pre-School Newcastle is spacious and bright, with large rooms for each age group and a sensory room for storytime.

They are big on happy children and that's why they take care of each other and the world, have regular visits to their local care homes, and have a growing area for food. They have 5 little pioneers who help share their core values with the children, from making their own choices to encouraging them to be independent.

The nursery is silver eco schools accredited, a programme that sees children lead the way in making real environmental differences. Their staff are also all paediatric first aid trained as they are big on safety.

They also have an app, ParentZone, which keeps mums and dads informed about life at nursery, from photos, meals eaten and even toilet training progress!

There are four home rooms with the nursery split into the following age groups: three months to one-year-olds, one to two-year-olds, two to three-year-olds and three to five-year-olds.

My daughter has been going to this nursery since she was 1 and now we are getting ready to start school. Our daughter considers this nursery as a second home and we consider the staff as family. Everything is excellent and I am happy that my daughter grew up in a safe, happy and healthy environment.

My child has been at this nursery since June 2017 and I have always been extremely impressed with the care they provide.
The staff are great and I feel like they are part of our extended family. Passionate about what they do, they all show a genuine interest in my child's development and he thoroughly
enjoys attending nursery.
Over the last year, they have worked so hard in keeping staff and children safe during the pandemic, going above and beyond on a daily basis.
My child will leave nursery this August and I will be very sad to say goodbye to the exceptional team that have cared for my son for 4 years.

We have found this to be a lovely nursery. The staff are supremely kind and thoughtful in how to make a nursery experience tailored to the needs and interests of our child. I have also been very impressed by the organisations response to covid. They seem to have taken great care to protect the mental
and physical welfare of the children and their workers. I feel very safe and confident in having my child at the nursery. I love the daily updates and photos on his progress and I appreciate their consideration and actions on how to support my child's development. Also, my kid adores being able to see the trains from the garden.

This review mainly relates to my second child who has attended The Co-operative Newcastle Nursery since he was 9-months-old. He is now 4. My eldest child also attended the nursery between the ages of 1 year and 4.5 years.
I have only good things to say about this nursery (with the one exception that
it sometimes takes a while before they answer the door - not ideal when you are in a rush!). The staff are all friendly, helpful, nurturing and both of my children felt entirely safe and confident whilst in their care.
The facilities are welcoming, bright and engaging including outside and indoor play areas. The staff make sure the children have a wide variety of fun, educational and engaging activities to do each day: I have never had either of my children report feeling bored after a day at nursery.
Parents receive regular, informative feedback on their child's progress which is always useful - especially considering the expert knowledge of the staff who prepare these reviews. 10/10!

Wonderful nursery with highly trained and friendly staff. Extremely low turnover of staff. High-quality food. Our son loves it there. The only downside is there's no good garden but staff take them on walks nonetheless.

My child loves going to nursery - she has developed deep friendships with the children in her room. The activities she does are novel, exciting and educational and she has a real affection for the staff who take care of her. We appreciate the feedback in person and via the app, the meals are great,
hours suit our needs and location is convenient.

Have no bad comments about this nursery. I didn't think I'd be comfortable leaving my daughter with people I didn't know but all the staff are lovely, they all go out their way to do things and welcome my daughter every time. She now goes into nursery running and waves me goodbye and that's down to
the lovely staff. They've helped cater for her dietary needs as well which makes me so much as ease! Would recommend this nursery every time I wouldn't even look anywhere else as soon as I went for a viewing of the nursery I knew that was the one!

We have loved our time at this nursery - our son is now 3 (and a half - he'd want that included!) and has been there since he was 11 months. He continues to thrive, with the wonderful staff both nurturing and developing him. He's enjoyed such a variety of activities, and is now developing his phonics,
ready for school in September. It will be a wrench to leave - it has been so wonderful to leave him somewhere I know he is happy, adored, safe, and so well cared for. He eats well, has developed confidence and social skills, and comes home full of songs and stories and is excited for the next week.

My daughter enjoys it and learns a lot. I feel she is in very capable hands and I know she is safe and happy when I leave her.
She has made lovely friends and has learnt great manners and habits from nursery. I wish she
could go to school here too.

My son's development since starting is constantly growing, he adores the staff at the nursery, always smiling when I drop him off. The staff always ask how he has been outside of his nursery hours and asks if he has had any illnesses. I am regularly updated on what development skills are being developed
and how I can help with my son's development. Being a first-time mum this is very comforting. I am never worried about my child's safety and feel he is being fed nutritious and varied meals. I feel safe leaving my son at the nursery and his changes are always positive.

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.9 (9.914) out of 10 for Little Pioneers Nursery & Pre-School, Newcastle is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 30 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Day Nursery is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.914 for Little Pioneers Nursery & Pre-School, Newcastle is calculated as follows: ( (333 Excellents x 5) + (24 Goods x 4) + (2 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 360 Ratings = 4.914
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Little Pioneers Nursery & Pre-School, Newcastle is based on 30 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the number of registered child places in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Day Nursery registered for a maximum of 50 child places has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 116 number of registered child places is 23.2, which has been reached with 30 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Day Nursery does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
