After a rocky start, my son is more than happy at the nursery. The staff have been patient, understanding and given me confidence in knowing my son is well cared for. He evidently learns a lot and likes to show off his new skills at home.

All the team at Bright Horizons Callands, from the management through to the kitchen and the domestics, are amazing. They all do a fantastic job and are all so kind and caring to the children, and supportive to parents too. Our daughter's needs and dietary requirements are well catered for and we know
she's in safe hands! She loves coming to nursery. We are going to miss everyone when she starts school.

Although my son loves going to nursery, but I feel lack of staff in terms of taking care of kids, kids playing in the rain, coming home with dirty socks, not enough encouraging to wash hands after playing in garden, and lack of vegetarian options for food and not encouraging toilet trained kids to use
the toilet. My son holds it for all 5 hours he stays in the nursery each day.
Reply from Amanda, Marketing and Campaigns Executive at Bright Horizons Callands Day Nursery and PreschoolHi, we are sorry to hear this and are not aware of any of the issues given. The team works very hard to ensure the needs of every child are met and parent requests. I will be connecting with the nursery team to discuss your feedback as we have procedures and a varied healthy menu in place for all dietary requirements. If you would like to talk about your experience please call 0330 433 2460 or email parentenquiry@brighthorizons.com to discuss this further.

Absolutely amazing staff at Bright Horizons Callands. They are truly fabulous in every room. They are supportive, amazing in everything they do and go above and beyond for each of my children that attend. They all make our lives easier every morning on drop off as each of my children love going in as
they know they get lots of time and attention they need.

Lovely nursery, lots of different, unusual tasks set up for the children to use/play with. Lots of things they wouldn't do/use at home. Lots of encouragement for good manners/sharing with others etc.
Staff members are all very kind and patient with children.
My child was so excited to show me everything
and show me around and we had a lovely afternoon.

My little one has been here for nearly a year and we are so impressed. The staff are very friendly and also easy to talk to. The transition to toddlers was great and they understood that it was difficult for me to leave him. My little boy really enjoys coming and has a brilliant relationship with his
key worker. He sings songs from nursery and always waves goodbye after his day. Really appreciate all of the staff for all their hard work.

My daughter moved here in September 2022 and instantly settled in. All the staff made her feel very welcome and loved. She already has such a great bond with all staff at the nursery. She has a great day every day and enjoys all activities. The meals are always great and she enjoys them all! I highly
recommend the nursery to anyone looking.

Callands Day Nursery and Preschool is a wonderful nursery, having transferred from another nursery, my daughter settled straight away. The staff are exceptional, they take the time to build genuine relationships with the children and families. My daughter happily skips into the nursery and tells me
about all her friends when she comes home every day. A wonderful nursery, highly recommend it.

My grandchild started as a very shy child who wouldn't speak to anyone. She is now a confident child who just walks straight in. The staff are perfect with her and always fill you in on their day. Always comes out happy and chatty.

My son settled into nursery at Callands very quickly and thoroughly enjoys his sessions. I particularly like how valued he is made to feel and how well the practitioners use every opportunity to provide the most wonderful learning experience. The nursery is so welcoming and inviting. The staff are kind
and tune into the children and their interests, so well. I go to work so happy in the knowledge my little boy is safe and happy and loving his learning journey.

Amazing nursery, with amazing staff who accommodate the needs of each individual child. My son absolutely loves nursery and always comes out at the end of each day very happy. He started in babies and is now in preschool. The support he got from the staff as he was transitioning into each room, was
amazing and I can't thank the staff enough.

So far, the nursery and all the staff have been fantastic. My daughter has already started to learn new things and say new words and she has only been there for one month. She has also settled in a lot quicker than I thought and is always super excited to go in.

My son being a 'lockdown baby' struggled initially with nursery but the girls have been so good and happy to go at his pace he now enjoys going. He has special dietary requirements due to an allergy and the staff are very knowledgeable and have a strict policy which helps put my mind at rest. The recent
addition of the Bright Horizons app has been a godsend. I love it.

Both of my children have attended this nursery over the last 14 years and I have always found the staff extremely friendly and professional. The care and education they offer are second to none.
I’m extremely thankful that the link club/after school club has now recommenced as this helps me out massively.

What we want from a nursery is for our child to have a smile on his face. Every time we collect him he is grinning ear to ear. The staff are excellent and have maintained high levels of care despite adversity during this Covid period. I really could not recommend Bright Horizons Callands enough.

Current Review Score: 9.9 (9.897)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.9 (9.897) out of 10 for Bright Horizons Callands Day Nursery and Preschool is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 26 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 26 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Day Nursery is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.897 for Bright Horizons Callands Day Nursery and Preschool is calculated as follows: ( (284 Excellents x 5) + (22 Goods x 4) + (5 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 311 Ratings = 4.897
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Bright Horizons Callands Day Nursery and Preschool is based on 26 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the number of registered child places in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Day Nursery registered for a maximum of 50 child places has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 123 number of registered child places is 24.6, which has been reached with 26 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Day Nursery does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
