After being recommended by friends I booked to view the nursery and was given a fantastic tour of all the facilities, my daughter being my first child I was very nervous to leave her in the care of anyone as she was only 9 months and had never really been without me but the women at this nursery have been nothing but wonderful. My daughter loves going to nursery and I am more than satisfied she is very well cared for! The diary and the app are a fantastic addition, it’s so wonderful to see her enjoying her time at nursery and a big weight off my mind when I’m at work to know she is happy and well cared for. Would and have recommended this nursery to friends and family.
My daughter is 16 months old and has attended Children 1st for the past 5 months. After researching nurseries in the area and visiting 3 I was beginning to lose hope as all of them were a very low standard and not somewhere I would feel comfortable leaving our daughter at all day. My friend then recommended Children 1st where her daughter attended and I visited the same day and knew it was for us. I was blown away with the organisation, structure and cleanliness of both buildings. The staff are nothing but loving and encouraging towards the children and are just genuinely nice people. Going back to work and leaving your child is traumatic but I’m so glad I got my daughter into this nursery as she smiles as soon as we pull into the car park. As a working mum, you can’t ask for much more than that. Not only does she enjoy it she has come on so much in speech and development. I sing the praises to all my friends and family for how wonderful this organisation is.
Really pleased that we chose Children 1st @ Toton for our son. The staff are amazing with the children. I completely trust that he is safe with them. He seems to love going and doesn't always want to come home in the evening so I'm pretty sure he enjoys his time there. Great communication between staff and parents.
Here are a couple of things that make it so fab in addition to their general brilliant care;
They show love and care for the children and give you little updates at the end of the about the lovely things they've done.
They upload photos onto a parent app (linked to how she's met her next step in whatever skill they're focusing on with her)
The food is nutritious and all sounds delicious, three meals a day plus desserts and snacks. Huge help and reassurance.
You get to know the staff really well and they listen to what you say and follow routines you request.
They're brilliant if the little ones aren't feeling great or are sad, lots of cuddles given and time spent with them.
Honestly am so happy with Children 1st Toton and would recommend it (as it was to me!)
My little boy has been coming to Children 1st @ Toton for the last 12-months. He thoroughly enjoys his time here, and we have been incredibly impressed with the professionalism of the staff and the care, support and opportunities he has received.
Lovely nursery with excellent care. Kids are well cared for and get lots of creative activities inside and in the garden. They have very good outside space with bikes, slides, etc. My son has been there since 11-months-old and he is getting prepared for school really well. He has food allergies but there are always alternatives for him, the nursery manager finds new products just for my son. My son is very happy there.
My daughter has been attending Children 1st at Toton since she was nine months old, she is now two-and-a-half and has really thrived at the nursery. She is excited to attend in the mornings and talks to me with enthusiasm about her day and the staff at the nursery. I find management and reception to be helpful and fast at answering any queries, nothing is too much hassle. I would highly recommend this nursery.
The staff here are amazing and genuinely care for the children. My son has progressed so well since starting nursery and he loves being there. We're always greeted so warmly and receive thorough feedback about how his day has been. We love all the creative things they do and always look forward to receiving gifts at Christmas, Mother's Day etc. My older son got so much from it and still maintains friendships with the other children and staff since starting school. I'd have no hesitation in recommending the nursery to anyone.
Staff in Toton Children 1st are professional and reliable and I'm impressed that every member of staff I meet when I drop off/pick up my child gives me/my child the same interest/attention. Although my child is allocated to a key worker, still I find other workers just as interested and knowledgeable of my child. We often receive the art work/activity work of my child.
My daughter started here in January and has settled in lovely. The staff are all very friendly and very helpful and I definitely recommend this nursery.
My second eldest child currently goes to this nursery and has done since she was 6 months old. The staff are amazing and are always willing to help and accommodate you. Communication and updates about my child are very prompt. My daughter loves going, is always occupied and loves playing and learning. She is currently at pre-school and has come on brilliantly in her learning and preparation for school. My eldest child went to this nursery and my youngest child will be going too. A* Service.
We absolutely love Children 1st at Toton. Our daughter is so happy there and has learnt and progressed so much since starting. The nursery have always kept us well informed and the staff are always very friendly and helpful. We truly trust the nursery to give our daughter the best care and attention and this shows by how happy she is. Children 1st is definitely a 5-star nursery and we would recommend it to everyone.
We are so pleased to have had both of our children in the care of Children 1st Toton since they were a year old. From the baby unit through to after school, we can see the love and attention given by the wonderfully dedicated staff from the way that our children always look forward to going there. Thank you so much.
My daughter has thrived and grown enormously at Children 1st @ Toton. Academically her ability amazes me but more importantly, it is how the nursery has helped her develop socially and emotionally. They have given her love and kindness, support and encouragement. The learning activities have been fun, inspiring and ongoing. Thank you.
Absolutely love the staff here. They do so much with the children. Really take the time to play with all of them and make them all feel involved. The nursery is bright and clean all the time. I couldn't ask for a nicer environment for my children to learn and grow. Love it when they have dress-up days, makes my morning when I come in and see the staff and children all dressed up. Can't thank everyone for their time and dedication. Thank you.
I have been so impressed by the caring, friendly and loving environment this nursery has provided. They got to know my little boy in the short time he was with them, they worked alongside his bubbly personality and sometimes lively, they didn't suppress just encouraged in a gentle way to be calm when needed. He has shown so much progress in his development - reading, colouring. They picked up on his likes and dislikes and adapted activities so he got the most from them. I cannot praise the staff, all of them, enough. Thoroughly enjoyed it here.
My daughter has attended this nursery from nine months old, until leaving for school. Throughout this time I have always found the staff to be fantastic, they are always so friendly and it is clear to see they form such strong bonds with the children. The activities and experiences my child has participated in during her time at this nursery, has been amazing. They make learning so much fun and my daughter always has so much to tell me about what she has been doing each day. Can't recommend this nursery enough.
Going back to work was such an emotional time made easier by the wonderful staff who always take the time and effort to make sure my son has settled and is happy. Always something new for them to experience and learning through play is always the best way. The Christmas Nativity and graduation events were amazing and have given my son so much confidence. I would happily recommend this nursery to anyone. I especially love getting photos of what they have been doing.
Nursery has a very warm and welcoming attitude towards everyone. My daughter has grown so much especially in her confidence. Right from when she started, she was given so much support to settle in and the daily feedback we received is so helpful. I'm happy I brought my daughter here as I feel confident that my daughter is in a safe place. All the staff are amazing and can't seem to do enough for us.
Our childs development has on in leaps and bounds. His ability to learn and focus has greatly improved. He has been shown lots of independence and treated with kindness and respect.

Hello, my name is Katie Smeeton and I joined Children 1st in 2008. I began my childcare journey as an apprentice, where I completed my Level 3 qualification in Childcare. During my training, I gained so much knowledge and understanding of early years education, which shaped my passion for the profession.
I’ve had the opportunity to work across three of our sites, developing my skills and experiences along the way. This journey has led me to my current role as Nursery Manager.
I hold a Level 3 in Childcare, alongside DSL training and First Aid in the Workplace.
I am especially passionate about working with Under 2’s and supporting their early learning and development. I love welcoming new families into the nursery, and as a manager, I’m able to build those important relationships from the very first phone call or visit, starting strong parent partnerships.
I take pride in supporting families and am passionate about maintaining positive, healthy relationships with them throughout their nursery journey.
Hello, my name is Laura Harrison and I began my journey with Children 1st in 2007. I started as a Level 3 Early Years Educator after completing my qualification at college, but it’s throughout my time here that I’ve gained the most valuable experience and knowledge.
Over the years, I’ve had the opportunity to work in three different nurseries, developing my skills and progressing from Senior to Deputy, and now to my current role as Nursery Manager.
I hold a Level 3 qualification in Childcare, along with DSL and Paediatric First Aid certificates. What I love most about my role is building strong relationships with families, supporting them through those important early stages of nursery life, and watching their children grow in confidence, curiosity, and independence.
I’m passionate about providing high-quality care and creating a warm, welcoming environment where every family’s nursery experience is a positive one.
