Children 1st Toton Nursery School is situated in Toton, with easy access from Long Eaton, Chilwell and Beeston, close to local bus routes. The nursery has been beautifully refurbished throughout; with bright, open areas for babies, toddlers, Early Years and out-of-school children, from 0 – 12 years.

The friendly, enthusiastic staff are all fully trained and very experienced, and staff to children ratios are better than Ofsted recommendations, so you can be sure of the very best care for your child. They provide a fantastic nursery school environment, with the added experience that comes with a designated Early Years Practitioner, and also offer fully grant funded places for children aged 3 and 4 years.

Outside there is a fabulous garden designed to maximise the potential for outdoor play, with carefully chosen, age-specific equipment. Children are encouraged to choose their own activity with a huge variety of options both in and outside.

My daughter has flourished at Children 1st, she has developed special friendships and her confidence has grown. All of the staff go above and beyond to ensure that their learning experiences are exciting, nurturing and stimulating. I feel that the nursery has given my daughter the right foundations
to confidently and happily start her next journey at school. Thank you to all of the staff along her journey.

My child has always enjoyed going to nursery and she always has a smile on her face when I pick her up. The early year's team are a fantastic group and always go above and beyond for the children. The communication between staff and parents is super. We are always kept up to date with what is going

Staff have taken time to get to know my son's personality, strengths and 'quirks'. This has helped him build trusting relationships, feel secure and increase his confidence. The nursery setting is lovely - really stimulating, engaging and often updated to reflect themes and new areas of focus. My experience
of management has been very positive - any questions or concerns responded to very promptly. The best thing is knowing that staff think as much of my son as I do.

We are more than impressed with the care and attention that is given to the children at Toton. We have had three girls go through nursery from the baby bungalow to early years. Each step was approached with care and consideration by the staff and all of our children thrived. Thank you. Our girls loved

Lovely staff, very caring, clean and bright environment. I love the updates via the app with photos. Loads of communication about his day when we pick him up. Children 1st is a brilliant nursery.
We're extremely satisfied with the care our daughter is receiving at the nursery.
The staff are outstandingly professional, kind and helpful/supportive. The nursery has lots of play areas, both in and outside, and daily learning activities.
We get regular updates
through the app about her development, activities including photos, it is fabulous!
She enjoys going to nursery which is a sign that she is being cared for and loved.
We are very thankful to all the staff.

Excellent nursery. As a parent, one of the hardest things you will do in the early years is pick a nursery and drop your child off on the first day. The staff at this nursery have been incredibly supportive and have always looked to ensure we and our child are comfortable. As first-time parents, the
nursery staff have been an excellent support network and have been a great source of advice, support and comfort in helping us bring up our child and having their experience to hand has been very reassuring. No regrets about picking this nursery and we are continually impressed by the range of activities offered. An excellent, supportive, friendly and collaborative nursery.

The workers at Children 1st @ Toton are always pleasant, dedicated and very hard working and I feel that they look after my girls with pride and professionalism. There is a management layer who at times appear very intense but overall are courteous and considerate.

My little boy enjoys going to the nursery in Toton. His key worker is lovely and always keeps me up to date with his progress and my little boy is always happy to go to her and this makes going to work so much easier. All the ladies are lovely too who. My little boy goes to both of them too, which again
makes it so much better. My little boy has come on so much since going to this nursery. He’s hitting all his milestones and they put so much effort into making things with them. At Christmas, I got so many lovely things that they had made with my little boy which was lovely.


I couldn’t recommend this nursery enough and the manager is really nice and always willing to help with any queries I may have.

I love my Children 1st family. My boys are there four days a week and I work long hours, they play a big part in their lives and I couldn't wish for anything better. They are always coming out with smiles on their faces and can't wait to go again, even asking at weekends why it's closed. They are a
great team and have supported boy the boys and myself through a lot, I don't know what I'd do without them. A great big thank you from all of us.

My daughter started at the nursery in September 2017, she was a little upset at first but settled well. She loves going to nursery and talks about all the lovely things she does. The nursery has lots of fun activities and is a stimulating environment which enhances children’s learning. It is inviting
and has a nutritional menu which offers lots of options. I think the nursery is lovely and staff are friendly and welcoming. My daughter very often comes home dirty which in my opinion means she’s had lots of fun learning.

My daughter has just started at Children 1st @ Toton nursery under a month ago. It is an AMAZING nursery. Every day I collect my child, I get good feedback about my child and the staff are always willing to help. The staff are very kind and helpful, I feel like the staff in the baby room go beyond
the extra miles for my child. Every day I pick her up, she is happy playing with the other children or staff I really enjoy getting observation/pictures threw the Eylog I think this was a very good idea. My older daughter came to Children 1st @ Toton nursery for holiday club through the Christmas period she never wanted to come home she was telling me all the amazing stuff she made and did every day and she was very upset she had to go back to school she surely will be coming back for February half term. I would recommend this nursery to everyone I know. The care my children received is more then excellent.

Katie Smeeton

Job Title: Nursery Manager Joined: 2008

Hello, my name is Katie Smeeton and I joined Children 1st in 2008. I began my childcare journey as an apprentice, where I completed my Level 3 qualification in Childcare. During my training, I gained so much knowledge and understanding of early years education, which shaped my passion for the profession.


I’ve had the opportunity to work across three of our sites, developing my skills and experiences along the way. This journey has led me to my current role as Nursery Manager.


I hold a Level 3 in Childcare, alongside DSL training and First Aid in the Workplace.


I am especially passionate about working with Under 2’s and supporting their early learning and development. I love welcoming new families into the nursery, and as a manager, I’m able to build those important relationships from the very first phone call or visit, starting strong parent partnerships.


I take pride in supporting families and am passionate about maintaining positive, healthy relationships with them throughout their nursery journey.

Hello, my name is Laura Harrison and I began my journey with Children 1st in 2007. I started as a Level 3 Early Years Educator after completing my qualification at college, but it’s throughout my time here that I’ve gained the most valuable experience and knowledge.


Over the years, I’ve had the opportunity to work in three different nurseries, developing my skills and progressing from Senior to Deputy, and now to my current role as Nursery Manager.


I hold a Level 3 qualification in Childcare, along with DSL and Paediatric First Aid certificates. What I love most about my role is building strong relationships with families, supporting them through those important early stages of nursery life, and watching their children grow in confidence, curiosity, and independence.


I’m passionate about providing high-quality care and creating a warm, welcoming environment where every family’s nursery experience is a positive one.
