Children 1st Toton Nursery School is situated in Toton, with easy access from Long Eaton, Chilwell and Beeston, close to local bus routes. The nursery has been beautifully refurbished throughout; with bright, open areas for babies, toddlers, Early Years and out-of-school children, from 0 – 12 years.

The friendly, enthusiastic staff are all fully trained and very experienced, and staff to children ratios are better than Ofsted recommendations, so you can be sure of the very best care for your child. They provide a fantastic nursery school environment, with the added experience that comes with a designated Early Years Practitioner, and also offer fully grant funded places for children aged 3 and 4 years.

Outside there is a fabulous garden designed to maximise the potential for outdoor play, with carefully chosen, age-specific equipment. Children are encouraged to choose their own activity with a huge variety of options both in and outside.

My son has been attending Children 1st @ Toton since he was 6 months old and he is now 9 years old and currently attends the out of school facilities. The staff are always pleasant upon arrival and take time to inform me of my sons day. The activities he undertakes are always fun and interactive, which
he loves. I know that whilst he is there he is in safe hands.

We are really pleased with how our little boy is getting on at nursery! He settled in really well and seems to enjoy his time there. The EyLog is fantastic for seeing what he’s been up to each week and I love the little crafts that we get to bring home! The staff are all brilliant and I’m confident
he’s being looked after whilst he’s there which is a weight off my mind.

My daughter has been attending Children 1st @ Toton for the last year and a half and absolutely loves it. The staff are very professional and you can tell that they genuinely care for your child. I especially love getting updates via the EYlog to see what my daughter has been up to during the day.

I adore this nursery and so does my son. They go above and beyond to ensure you are 100% happy in every way. The minute you step through the door, you feel part of the family. They have calmed my son's behaviour down also since starting. The nursery put in plans on how to positively reinforce good
behaviour. My son even asks to go at weekends! I can't thank the staff enough for all the hard work and genuine care they give to my son every day and help they give me if I ever need advice or if I'm struggling also. This is the best nursery my son has ever been to ever by miles. He will be coming here for a long time as we will use them for in-between school holidays terms also. Thanks so much everyone in forever grateful your all amazing.

We are a military family and have 3 boys who attend Children 1st @ Toton. The staff have gone above and beyond to assist our boys during their transition and their time there over the last year. The boys absolutely love going there. Children are happy and healthy with excellent support from staff at
all times. I would strongly recommend this place to any parent, especally if your child has special needs. They work with the families and the children's developement and well being is definately thier priority. Other nurseries we have used in the past have said this is thier priorty but failed to deliver. At Children 1st, you can see this is their priority daily in the way they interact with the children and families.

We moved to Children 1st @ Toton in 2015 and moved nurseries from another well-known nursery. Children 1st @ Toton has been excellent in every way since day one. The staff are very professional, approachable and are loved by both our children. Their sole focus is about the children and with regular
updates via the app you know exactly what is happening. I would highly recommend Children 1st @ Toton to anyone who wants their child to be looked after extremely well.

We love this nursery and I recommend it to anyone that will listen.
My son started at the Derby Road branch, but we moved and really struggled to find another company anywhere near as good as Children 1st. We eventually visited Toton and the manager set us at ease straight away - nothing was a problem.
They are so accommodating and reassuring.
We now travel to Toton for nursery and it is so worth it. The staff are lovely and I really feel that my son is getting the best out of his time there. His social skills have come on leaps and bounds since he started and he is really being prepared for the transition to school. He loves going and I think that speaks volumes.

As a parent, we have really settled well into the nursery. The staff and management are all lovely and approachable. They take every child's individual needs/learning into account. They are very transparent with children's development/progress giving us the daily progress of their day. My daughter's
key worker is brilliant with her and has helped her settle well into her new class. She always looks forward to coming to nursery every day.

My son has thrived in this nursery. He has a fantastic time - always has new songs he's learnt and talks about what he's played with. With a year before he starts school, he seems fairly well prepared already! The staff have been fantastic from day one and his sister will hopefully get the same from
it now she has recently started. I'd highly recommend the nursery.

Children 1st at Toton is a wonderful nursery. Both my children are extremely happy there. I am regularly updated about what they have been doing each day, both in person and on the Eylog. I am a fan of the Eylog. The nursery put lots of photos and updates on it which I look at together with my children
and they tell me all about it. Recently a fire engine visited nursery which my son loved. The staff are excellent, always happy to help and they really go the extra mile for the children - dressing up for special occasions and thinking up new and unique arts and crafts activities. I will be sad when its time for my children to leave.

My daughter attends the 15 hours a week, funded sessions. She had not been at nursery before and the first week was unsettling for her. She was upset.
I spoke with members of staff about this and they put extra procedures in place to help her settle in. She settled in very quickly after that.
I was
very impressed with how they dealt with this situation.
The visits that the nursery arranges are good, offering further educational and fun experiences for younger children.

My child has attended Children 1st @ Toton since April 2016 and I couldn't be happier with this nursery. The progress made has been down to some incredible staff. A couple of them, who are outstanding to your brand- I credit in helping to bring my daughter up into the confident and kind young girl she

Katie Smeeton

Job Title: Nursery Manager Joined: 2008

Hello, my name is Katie Smeeton and I joined Children 1st in 2008. I began my childcare journey as an apprentice, where I completed my Level 3 qualification in Childcare. During my training, I gained so much knowledge and understanding of early years education, which shaped my passion for the profession.


I’ve had the opportunity to work across three of our sites, developing my skills and experiences along the way. This journey has led me to my current role as Nursery Manager.


I hold a Level 3 in Childcare, alongside DSL training and First Aid in the Workplace.


I am especially passionate about working with Under 2’s and supporting their early learning and development. I love welcoming new families into the nursery, and as a manager, I’m able to build those important relationships from the very first phone call or visit, starting strong parent partnerships.


I take pride in supporting families and am passionate about maintaining positive, healthy relationships with them throughout their nursery journey.

Hello, my name is Laura Harrison and I began my journey with Children 1st in 2007. I started as a Level 3 Early Years Educator after completing my qualification at college, but it’s throughout my time here that I’ve gained the most valuable experience and knowledge.


Over the years, I’ve had the opportunity to work in three different nurseries, developing my skills and progressing from Senior to Deputy, and now to my current role as Nursery Manager.


I hold a Level 3 qualification in Childcare, along with DSL and Paediatric First Aid certificates. What I love most about my role is building strong relationships with families, supporting them through those important early stages of nursery life, and watching their children grow in confidence, curiosity, and independence.


I’m passionate about providing high-quality care and creating a warm, welcoming environment where every family’s nursery experience is a positive one.
