Children 1st at Toton is a wonderful nursery. Both my children are extremely happy there. I am regularly updated about what they have been doing each day, both in person and on the Eylog. I am a fan of the Eylog. The nursery put lots of photos and updates on it which I look at together with my children and they tell me all about it. Recently a fire engine visited nursery which my son loved. The staff are excellent, always happy to help and they really go the extra mile for the children - dressing up for special occasions and thinking up new and unique arts and crafts activities. I will be sad when its time for my children to leave.
I spoke with members of staff about this and they put extra procedures in place to help her settle in. She settled in very quickly after that.
I was very impressed with how they dealt with this situation.
The visits that the nursery arranges are good, offering further educational and fun experiences for younger children.
Everyone here works tirelessly to make sure that this nursery is the best for the children and their families. The children have many opportunities to meet a variety of visitors and animals as well as take part in other exciting learning opportunities that enrich their learning within a creative, fun curriculum. My children absolutely love nursery and because of the passionate staff here, they have been made to feel safe, happy and valued at all times, which has made returning to work that bit easier.
My child has attended Children 1st @ Toton since April 2016 and I couldn't be happier with this nursery. The progress made has been down to some incredible staff. A couple of them, who are outstanding to your brand- I credit in helping to bring my daughter up into the confident and kind young girl she is today. The attention to detail, learning techniques and general care for each child is second to none. I'd recommend this nursery to anyone. I've nothing but praise and thanks to give to the wonderful team at Children 1st @ Toton. Thank you.
Both my daughters have attended this nursery from 2009 to July 2017. I've always felt completely reassured leaving the girls at Children 1st and they have both thoroughly enjoyed their time there. All the staff are friendly and approachable and always show caring and compassion towards the children. The nursery is spacious and clean and is always being updated and decorated when necessary. The toys and learning tools are plentiful and modern, and there is lots of outdoor space to give them the freedom to play and learn. My youngest has just had her leaving graduation and the effort all the staff went to, to ensure the children and parents enjoyed it was outstanding, and each child went home with a personalised gift bag and framed photograph. Both girls were given a fantastic start in life, particularly in growing their social skills and feel the nursery have contributed greatly to preparing them for school.
I normally write reviews after poor service but can only offer praise here. Our daughter started at this nursery at 8 months old. This week my wife and I attended her graduation event which included a play by the children on the Gingerbread Man, and a lovely PowerPoint showing many gorgeous pictures of her and her friends as they have progressed during their learning journey. This was a truly outstanding event for all involved. Over the 3.5 years that our daughter has attended, she has developed incredibly and has often caught us out on returning home with new words, phrases, facts and skills. This is a real testament to the care and attention the staff give to all children. The other point specifically worthy of note is the number of different rooms they have, which has enabled our child to progress at her pace, without being held back which was my concern with other nurseries where rooms are few, thus having to cater for a wide range of age and ability. Overall I recommend extremely highly.
It was a tough few weeks emotionally whilst she settled and the nursery was very patient with us both.
The setting is excellent offering a large indoor and outdoor space along with air conditioning.
My daughter enjoys her time there and is learning more each week.
They offer a well-balanced diet too.
My son has attended the Toton nursery for two months now. From day one he has loved it and his development has been great. The staff are so friendly and helpful. I always feel happy and confident leaving him in the morning. The elog updates are fantastic too. They make my day! To be able to still be involved in his day whilst at work is invaluable. I couldn't recommend this nursery enough!
I like being informed about my son's progress and the varied activities he does each day. The nursery staff always seem very caring when I am there. It is especially heartening to read the observations and his reactions remind us of what he is like at home. The interpretation of the observations doesn't always make sense and there are grammar errors which can make understanding difficult.
Boys are always happy when I pick them up. The staff take the time to get to know the children and interact with them on their level... playing games and having fun. The environment is clean and activities during the holidays are engaging and educational.
This is a very good nursery. All my children have been to the nursery. They take pride in what they do. The children are looked after very well. If you have a problem it is sorted out quickly. I would recommend this nursery to anyone who is looking for an outstanding place where their child can achieve a lot during their development stages.
They do lots of activities, especially creative ones, and I love it when these are sent home. They monitor their progression which you can see in their daily records and in the app which also includes photos and videos- it's great to get these updates whilst at work.
The only improvement I would like to see is a slightly healthier menu in terms of the puddings.
Overall a wonderful facility that my child very much enjoys and benefits from attending.
I am very happy with the service provided at Children 1st Toton. All staff are professional, kind and reliable. My daughter has been there since last September 2016. She enjoys going to the nursery every day and looks so happy!
I think overall the nursery is very good. I have had one or 2 issues when I have been disappointed but they haven't been raised yet, however, the nursery is good.
I have been sending my baby since he was 6 months. All the staff are very nice to him and even when we were on holiday for months, they still sent emails to keep in contact.
Lovely staff who build great relationships with parents and children alike.
All three of my children have attended and have all been looked after and cared for safely and sensitively. I would recommend to any parent and I have previously recommended to friends.
Excellent, trustworthy, flexible and friendly staff. Our child enjoys her time at the nursery and appears to be better in all aspects when talking to friends with differing nurseries. Our daughter has made lots of new friends as well.
Children 1st @ Toton have cared for both of our daughters since the age of one through to their current ages (nine and seven). We have developed a fantastic relationship with Children 1st and wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to family and friends.

Hello, my name is Katie Smeeton and I joined Children 1st in 2008. I began my childcare journey as an apprentice, where I completed my Level 3 qualification in Childcare. During my training, I gained so much knowledge and understanding of early years education, which shaped my passion for the profession.
I’ve had the opportunity to work across three of our sites, developing my skills and experiences along the way. This journey has led me to my current role as Nursery Manager.
I hold a Level 3 in Childcare, alongside DSL training and First Aid in the Workplace.
I am especially passionate about working with Under 2’s and supporting their early learning and development. I love welcoming new families into the nursery, and as a manager, I’m able to build those important relationships from the very first phone call or visit, starting strong parent partnerships.
I take pride in supporting families and am passionate about maintaining positive, healthy relationships with them throughout their nursery journey.
Hello, my name is Laura Harrison and I began my journey with Children 1st in 2007. I started as a Level 3 Early Years Educator after completing my qualification at college, but it’s throughout my time here that I’ve gained the most valuable experience and knowledge.
Over the years, I’ve had the opportunity to work in three different nurseries, developing my skills and progressing from Senior to Deputy, and now to my current role as Nursery Manager.
I hold a Level 3 qualification in Childcare, along with DSL and Paediatric First Aid certificates. What I love most about my role is building strong relationships with families, supporting them through those important early stages of nursery life, and watching their children grow in confidence, curiosity, and independence.
I’m passionate about providing high-quality care and creating a warm, welcoming environment where every family’s nursery experience is a positive one.
