Children 1st Toton Nursery School is situated in Toton, with easy access from Long Eaton, Chilwell and Beeston, close to local bus routes. The nursery has been beautifully refurbished throughout; with bright, open areas for babies, toddlers, Early Years and out-of-school children, from 0 – 12 years.

The friendly, enthusiastic staff are all fully trained and very experienced, and staff to children ratios are better than Ofsted recommendations, so you can be sure of the very best care for your child. They provide a fantastic nursery school environment, with the added experience that comes with a designated Early Years Practitioner, and also offer fully grant funded places for children aged 3 and 4 years.

Outside there is a fabulous garden designed to maximise the potential for outdoor play, with carefully chosen, age-specific equipment. Children are encouraged to choose their own activity with a huge variety of options both in and outside.

My son had a lovely first day at the nursery. The staff was brilliant and the managers helpful. I am so happy that my son is a part of this lovely family team. I think at this stage I cannot see anything that I will change.

My son has attended the nursery for a few months and the staff in the units are lovely. He's always really happy and he loves his keyworker. The nursery is very aesthetically pleasing and the variety of activities available for the children is great.
I don't have a bad word to say about the staff
at the nursery or the treatment of the children. However, the availability of additional days when required is limited. And the one time a request for an additional session was approved, it ended up costing £72 for a 10-hour day session which I was shocked about.
Overall, we are very pleased with the nursery.

All of the staff are brilliant with our son. He has developed no end and we are extremely appreciative.
He seems to eat well, play lots and again develop constantly.
The cost is the higher end but you get quality for it.
Our son has been bitten a few times which is life and to be expected but
we haven't been given any feedback on if it's a repeat offender or if it's one-off cases.
Updates are amazing but dwindled of late.

My experience with Children 1st @ Toton Day Nursery has been fantastic, it's a caring environment, very clean and the staff are professional, warm and friendly. My daughter loves going to nursery, I'm confident that she receives genuine support and encouragement from the staff, they do all kinds of
fun activities together and we get regular updates and pictures to see how she's getting on. Having had experience of a different nursery before Children 1st, I can see a huge difference in my daughter's confidence and overall development since we joined last year.

Both my sons love/loved going to Children 1st @ Toton Day Nursery. They have great, friendly staff who really connect with the children and the range of activities and areas for the children to play and learn are fantastic. Both of our boys attend Children 1st @ Toton Day Nursery and we would have no hesitation in recommending this nursery to other parents. The staff are incredibly welcoming, warm and nurturing and we have always felt comfortable leaving both the boys in their care. They create a brilliant learning environment
and the communication with us, as parents, has always been great so we know what they have been doing each day. Our youngest son also has additional needs and the staff have always gone above and beyond in supporting his development.

Always happy to adapt and discuss anything big or small.
Lots of effort goes into activities with the children, especially at Christmas time.
Also, they manage to keep my kid's clothes cleaner throughout the day than I can so I can't complain.

My daughter has attended the nursery for three years now. She has been very happy there throughout her time in different stages of the nursery. Staff are kind, caring, enthusiastic and supportive. She is well cared for and engages in a wide variety of activities, including putting on a Christmas play,
meeting firefighters and lollipop workers, a lesson in first aid, woodwork and other arts and crafts etc., with plenty of outdoor time in their well-equipped outdoor spaces. The children are offered a wide variety of homemade food, exposing them regularly to a range of cuisines and my daughter is very complimentary! I would, and have, highly recommend to anyone looking for nursery care in the area.

Such a fantastic, friendly and caring nursery which is noticed throughout all the groups. All the staff are friendly, kind, considerate and always happy to see parents.
The kitchen is amazing, top chef, my daughter eats everything! I'm jealous! The whole nursery environment is always clean and well
looked after, even the outside.
I can't rate this nursery enough, management and the administration staff are always visible, friendly and helpful which creates a culture I want my child to be part of.

Our daughter attends Children 1st @ Toton Day Nursery two days a week! We are really pleased with the nursery. The staff are so friendly, attentive, professional and helpful.
Our daughter has come on so much since starting to attend just over a year ago and she really enjoys going.
The activities
that the children do are really varied and fun.
Feedback in relation to your child's day is also great as well both verbally, written and via the app.
Good hours for a working parent.

Katie Smeeton

Job Title: Nursery Manager Joined: 2008

Hello, my name is Katie Smeeton and I joined Children 1st in 2008. I began my childcare journey as an apprentice, where I completed my Level 3 qualification in Childcare. During my training, I gained so much knowledge and understanding of early years education, which shaped my passion for the profession.


I’ve had the opportunity to work across three of our sites, developing my skills and experiences along the way. This journey has led me to my current role as Nursery Manager.


I hold a Level 3 in Childcare, alongside DSL training and First Aid in the Workplace.


I am especially passionate about working with Under 2’s and supporting their early learning and development. I love welcoming new families into the nursery, and as a manager, I’m able to build those important relationships from the very first phone call or visit, starting strong parent partnerships.


I take pride in supporting families and am passionate about maintaining positive, healthy relationships with them throughout their nursery journey.

Hello, my name is Laura Harrison and I began my journey with Children 1st in 2007. I started as a Level 3 Early Years Educator after completing my qualification at college, but it’s throughout my time here that I’ve gained the most valuable experience and knowledge.


Over the years, I’ve had the opportunity to work in three different nurseries, developing my skills and progressing from Senior to Deputy, and now to my current role as Nursery Manager.


I hold a Level 3 qualification in Childcare, along with DSL and Paediatric First Aid certificates. What I love most about my role is building strong relationships with families, supporting them through those important early stages of nursery life, and watching their children grow in confidence, curiosity, and independence.


I’m passionate about providing high-quality care and creating a warm, welcoming environment where every family’s nursery experience is a positive one.
