Children 1st Toton Nursery School is situated in Toton, with easy access from Long Eaton, Chilwell and Beeston, close to local bus routes. The nursery has been beautifully refurbished throughout; with bright, open areas for babies, toddlers, Early Years and out-of-school children, from 0 – 12 years.

The friendly, enthusiastic staff are all fully trained and very experienced, and staff to children ratios are better than Ofsted recommendations, so you can be sure of the very best care for your child. They provide a fantastic nursery school environment, with the added experience that comes with a designated Early Years Practitioner, and also offer fully grant funded places for children aged 3 and 4 years.

Outside there is a fabulous garden designed to maximise the potential for outdoor play, with carefully chosen, age-specific equipment. Children are encouraged to choose their own activity with a huge variety of options both in and outside.

My daughter has been coming to Toton nursery for 4 years and it's like her second home. She's leaving this year and the nursery have made extraordinary efforts to make the last few weeks special for the children (and the parents). My LO has needed extra support this year and two particular members of
staff have been her rock. Everyone in the nursery is incredible. I take my hat off to you all - my daughter's been lucky to have you. Thank you x

A very good nursery where you can trust your child to send. My child developed a lot more since attending this school. I wish they had more capacity to accommodate more children and sessions. Teachers and carers are brilliant with daily updates and pictures received daily.

Toton children 1st toton is the most amazing nursery we could have sent our daughter too. The staff are always very professional, kind and caring. They have always shown love and compassion towards our child and have always been there for us as a family. They have encouraged and challenged our little
girl in many ways and have always gone above and beyond with activities.


The staff also went above and beyond to make our daughters last weeks of nursery before school so special, they work with the schools very closely and ensure transitions for children are as smooth as possible and ensure parents and children are fully prepared for the next steps!


Thank you to all the staff for being so amazing! I highly recommend this nursery to anybody!

Our son has been going here for just over a month now. He absolutely loves being there. All of the staff are very attentive and friendly. The communication is brilliant. Our son eats all the varieties of food as the menu is great. As parents we couldn't be happier sending out son there. Seeing the way

We couldn't be happier with the care and attention our daughter receives at this nursery. From day one, the staff have been incredibly welcoming and professional, creating a warm and nurturing environment that our child looks forward to every day. The team is attentive and genuinely cares about each

My son has loved going to nursery right from his settling-in days and he still loves it every time since! Collecting him with a smile on his face every day and knowing he is being looked after is good enough for me, but there is just so much for him to do there and the staff are brilliant with putting

My daughter started full-time nursery at the beginning of August after going back to work. They have made her feel so welcomed and comfortable and she runs in every morning to go and play. Couldn't ask for anything more. Her eating and sleeping have improved at home and I can only thank the nursery

Perfect Nursery is brilliant with my twins who are quite emotional about leaving me they have helped them become more independent and confident and even with potty trained now both are completely trained in the time and as they go full time this has to be down to them more than me. Would recommend this

My son has been at children's 1st Toton since April, and the experience we've had so far is like no other. Having been a nursery nurse myself, I'll easily say I'm a fussy mummy as I know what the expectations should be. My son ended up being egg free within the first few weeks at nursery, and they went
above and beyond to help. My little boy trys to leap out of my arms in a morning to go to any staff, which to me speaks volumes on how well he's treated, and he feels safe with them! The level of care he gets really is next to none!

My daughter has been attending Children's 1st in Toton since she was about 8 months old and has transitioned through about three different rooms and key workers now. She loves going to nursery and all the support staff she's interacted with. She's somewhat shy and takes a while to adjust to new people,
so we've been a bit nervous every time she's moved rooms, but they've always been brilliant at taking the move at her pace. Everyone is so helpful and supportive and we feel completely comfortable and at ease leaving our daughter at nursery under their care.

Our son loves it here. Couldn't wish for a better nursery for him the staff are excellent alongside the premises. He has and continues to come on leaps and bounds and this is solely down to the commitment and care of all staff.

Staff are amazing, really friendly and helpful. Would highly recommend this nursery to anyone.
Only gripe would be the gates and doors in the main unit at pick-up/drop-off, these seem to be left open and unattended frequently. It seems very easy for anyone to come and go, adult or child.
However,
I must add, when I get to my child's pick-up room, it's only one door and a staff member is always present to hand over your child and watching who comes and goes.

Our experience of Children’s 1st @ Toton has been fantastic and the nursery is outstanding. The level of care is exactly what I would like for my child. I feel happy dropping my child off at nursery here every day and feel like he will be safe, well looked after and have a happy day - which is always
the case! It is like dropping him off with family. There are plenty of good quality activities going on every day and the staff are excellent. My child gets a good amount of one-on-one time as well as group activities. I am so impressed with his learning from nursery which is a credit to the nursery staff. My opinion of the staff is that they genuinely care for the welfare of my child and others, they know my child as an individual and I trust them. They are always kind and friendly, and I am satisfied that they take safeguarding seriously. The staff go above and beyond to ensure that our child’s experience at nursery is a good one, and we are so grateful. I could not recommend it more!

My daughter has been at Children 1st @ Toton since September and I couldn't be happier with the staff and quality of care. This is my second child to attend the nursery, my older child now being at school. With both children, I have been happy with the attitudes of staff and the levels of communication.
My children both enjoyed nursery and have thrived. Staff are approachable and build good relationships with the children. It is lovely to hear about what the children have done, in addition to receiving photos and being invited to stay and play sessions too.

Katie Smeeton

Job Title: Nursery Manager Joined: 2008

Hello, my name is Katie Smeeton and I joined Children 1st in 2008. I began my childcare journey as an apprentice, where I completed my Level 3 qualification in Childcare. During my training, I gained so much knowledge and understanding of early years education, which shaped my passion for the profession.


I’ve had the opportunity to work across three of our sites, developing my skills and experiences along the way. This journey has led me to my current role as Nursery Manager.


I hold a Level 3 in Childcare, alongside DSL training and First Aid in the Workplace.


I am especially passionate about working with Under 2’s and supporting their early learning and development. I love welcoming new families into the nursery, and as a manager, I’m able to build those important relationships from the very first phone call or visit, starting strong parent partnerships.


I take pride in supporting families and am passionate about maintaining positive, healthy relationships with them throughout their nursery journey.

Hello, my name is Laura Harrison and I began my journey with Children 1st in 2007. I started as a Level 3 Early Years Educator after completing my qualification at college, but it’s throughout my time here that I’ve gained the most valuable experience and knowledge.


Over the years, I’ve had the opportunity to work in three different nurseries, developing my skills and progressing from Senior to Deputy, and now to my current role as Nursery Manager.


I hold a Level 3 qualification in Childcare, along with DSL and Paediatric First Aid certificates. What I love most about my role is building strong relationships with families, supporting them through those important early stages of nursery life, and watching their children grow in confidence, curiosity, and independence.


I’m passionate about providing high-quality care and creating a warm, welcoming environment where every family’s nursery experience is a positive one.
