Children 1st Grantham Nursery School is situated close to the town centre, with easy access to local bus routes and the train station. The nursery is rated as 'Good' by Ofsted (May 2022).

The environment has been refurbished throughout with bright, open areas for babies, toddlers, early years and out-of-school children aged up to 12-years-old.

Staff to children ratios are even better than Ofsted recommend and the nursery offers funded places for eligible children 2, 3 and 4-year-olds.

My son has attended since he was 6 weeks old, he is almost 4 and still attends now, I couldn't fault the nursery, his key worker is like a friend to us now and if we have more children without a doubt that is the nursery they will attend!

I have been extremely happy with the standard of care at Children's 1st Day nursery. My daughter has settled in extremely well, the staff are very caring, friendly and approachable. I am a serving member of the armed forces and had a recent deployment overseas, during which the nursery staff went above
and beyond in looking after my child and keeping me in communication with her. The online EY log was brilliant, and they also sent me parcels and let me Skype to the setting.
Other positive points are the great outdoor spaces, art studio and hot cooked meals which the children are allowed to help prepare.
This is our second day care setting we have used and I really cannot understate how much I would recommend it.

From walking through the front door I knew this was the nursery for my daughter. Modern, clean and purpose built with lovely touches like a fish tank wall, an outdoor sleep area for babies and healthy toddler snacks left by the door for the journey home. The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming
and were very accommodating to my changing childcare requirements. Meals were freshly prepared and enjoyed and dietary requirements adhered to. Plenty of parking and secure entrance system without having to wait for staff to open the door, would not hesitate to recommend.

Been with Children's 1st nursery Grantham since January 2013 with my 3 children and I have never had any issue, The staff are so kind and friendly my children absolutely love them, they were also so helpful when it came to potty training I don't think it would have been so easy without them. My children
are now in the same class and absolutely love going to school, they look forward to singing and reading stories with there friends and seeing there teachers. They come home with homework which they really enjoy doing and can't wait to take it back to show everyone. I recommend Children's 1st to all the parents I know, it's such an amazing nursery.

I have been using the nursery for the past fours years now. Firstly for my young son who is now at school and currently for my two year old son. I can highly recommend this nursery. My eldest son left the nursery fully equipped with the skills needed to start school. The foundations set in place at
nursery mean that he is a confident child who is making excellent progress at school.

The staff are highly skilled and work hard to provide the children with a rich and varied environment where all children can thrive. Both the indoor and outdoor environments are stimulating and engaging for all children. The meals and snacks are fresh and nutritious. Overall I would say the nursery offers a warm and loving environment where children are safe and well looked after.

My daughter attends this nursery, when she first started she used to get upset. Now she walks in confidently and comes home happy and talks about the staff and her friends. She constantly comes home singing the welcome time song to her brothers, when she arrives at nursery we always get greeted with
a warm welcome, the staff are all present and happy the nursery is clean, bright and cheerful. I am happy I chose this nursery for my little girl which also her two brothers attended. I would highly recommend this nursery to friends and family.

Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.609)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.609) out of 10 for Children 1st Grantham Nursery School is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 16 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.6 out of 5 from 16 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Day Nursery is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.995 for Children 1st Grantham Nursery School is calculated as follows: ( (191 Excellents x 5) + (1 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 192 Ratings = 4.995
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.614 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Children 1st Grantham Nursery School is based on 16 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.9
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the number of registered child places in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Day Nursery registered for a maximum of 50 child places has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 112 number of registered child places is 22.4. 16 Positive Reviews ÷ 22.4 = 0.714
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Day Nursery does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Hello, I'm Paula Bunn, Manager at Children 1st @ Grantham.
I have over 20 years childcare experience in different settings and roles. I have the level 3 NNEB qualification, an NVQ in Team Leading and an NVQ in Management.
I started working at the Grantham nursery 3 years ago as a Senior Nursery Nurse in the under 2s unit and was promoted to Deputy Manager overseeing the under 3s unit in January 2014, also supporting our EYT and Manager with the day to day running of the Early Years unit and Nursery as a whole.
I am really enjoying my new role as manager at our Outstanding nursery.
