Child 1st Bakewell was acquired in February 2017, and is based within a stunning Grade ll listed building nestled in the heart of the town of Bakewell in Derbyshire.

A range of child-led and adult-led approaches to learning and exploration are provided by an experienced and motivated staff team.

This welcoming provision is a safe 'home from home' for young children to develop and grow in confidence, playing and learning with their peers.

The chef creates a daily menu of tasty and delicious fresh meals. Any special dietary requirements are taken into account.

Child 1st Bakewell has cared for both my children. My little girl is now at school and my little boy completed his last day today.
As I reflect on the years they have supported us, I write this review with a very full heart. The nursery and all the wonderful people who make it what it is are invaluable.
My children are thriving. I know I owe a great deal of that to the women who spent hours encouraging their development, learning their ways, and building unforgettable bonds.
I would like to share also my praise for the manager, who I believe is a true asset to the Child 1st Bakewell family and certainly to us as parents. Her selflessness and ever-giving nature are a large contributor to the safe and happy environment we place our children in.
Thank you everyone at Child 1st. You will not be forgotten.

Child 1st has been brilliant for our son. He started aged 11 months. The staff helped him settle in, encouraged him with his food, helped him nap and feel comfortable to explore new activities. He now really thrives on his time there! The staff are so friendly and caring and really seem to take pride
in looking after the little ones. I don't worry about him when he's there, which is saying something as a first time mum! They've supported his development in so many ways and have been very accommodating for us. The app is also great for seeing what he's been up to. Highly recommended nursery.

My son loves the nursery. He’s so excited to go when he wakes up. He has come on so much since starting and always comes home telling me what he’s been doing that day.
The staff are amazing.
He’s started to eat different foods at nursery which is good for my son.

We cannot praise the nursery highly enough. Our younger grandchild is in toddlers and her elder sister ‘graduated’ in July 2023. We hope our new grandchild will be welcomed into the baby room in the not too distant future. The ladies who care for the little ones are so caring and our grandchildren absolutely
adore them and they all have the patience and the kindness to talk to us, the grandparents which we so appreciate. We were once in the park in Bakewell with one of our granddaughters who was about a year old when we saw the ladies from the nursery heading towards us with some of the little ones. The ladies made such a fuss of our granddaughter stopping to talk to her and to us. It was a magical encounter for us. There are not enough superlatives to explain how highly we think of the nursery. Thank you to you all. The children’s parents feel that they leave their children in very safe hands.

Both our boys have been at Child 1st for 9 months now after moving from another nursery (for geographical reasons). We are really pleased: the staff are caring, nurturing and engaging and most importantly the boys love being there. Our younger son has some medical issues and the staff are engaged in
this: they spent time with us learning about it and have been reactive to it without being overly cautious. He has been encouraged and seems to be doing really well in their care.
Our older son is in the preschool and he loves it. As a younger child, he was hard to leave at nursery, he would cry and never wanted to go, but since moving to Child 1st preschool he runs in and talks about his days there with excitement and joy. He seems to thrive there with the direction of his key worker.
We are happy that Child 1st provides a secure, nurturing environment for our two children.

I have been impressed at how staff care for my little one. They are so thoughtful, caring, and attentive, providing details of how she is settling in and developing. It’s also wonderful to see how they celebrate my daughter’s development and genuinely care about her progress. The range of activities

My child has just moved from toddlers to preschool. Children moving rooms and staff is always a worry for parents but every time he moves there is such a good handover, and transition period and the staff are so genuinely welcoming, warm and caring that he seems to love each stage even more than his
last.
I know all the staff there genuinely care about him, understand him and will go out of their way to give him what he needs emotionally, intellectually and physically. They’re also wonderful with us as parents and the management is so helpful and clearly also really care about the families and the nursery. It’s not like anywhere else I’ve heard about. It’s not just a business, it’s a support network, a team effort, a family. Highly recommend.

The staff are so lovely and caring. Our child attends several days a week and does lots of activities including lots of painting and craft activities. The nursery is very accommodating in allowing us to book extra days when there is space and to swap days on occasion so that we can fit around changes
to our work schedule. They have been happy to use our cloth nappies. We get an individual post and update approximately every 3 sessions and in addition, there is usually a group update with lots of photos a couple of times a week. There is a little play area which is regularly used for the littles.

We are new to the Peak District, having moved from London, and have been over the moon with Child 1st (Bakewell). The team have been so brilliant at helping our 3-year-old settle in. We get regular updates of the impressive variety of activities he’s been doing. We feel really happy he is being stimulated

My child has attended the nursery since the start of January 2024. She is currently in the baby room. The staff in the baby room are absolutely fantastic. The room leader and my child's key worker are wonderful with my child, the reports and updates I get are extensive and informative. The food the
children get is incredible, best nursery around, wouldn’t want to send my child anywhere else now I feel reassured and trust they are caring above and beyond for my child.

Fantastic nursery and all the staff are lovely and helpful. My son loves going and always comes home very happy. They keep me updated well on his progress and activities and send me photos of him taking part in activities. Highly recommend.

Our eldest daughter went here and her development came on leaps and bounds and thoroughly prepared her for infants school. Our youngest now goes here and she is comfortable and loves going there, she's very happy and she is developing well. The staff are always so nice and friendly. I can't recommend
them enough.

My daughter loves to go to nursery each day! The staff are fantastic, approachable, kind, and understanding, which is invaluable as a working mum. They have brilliant days planned every day, from yoga to forest school and encourage learning through play. Would highly recommend to anyone.

Fantastic nursery with great facilities and committed, caring and personable staff. Our baby girl absolutely adores going to each session, and is always in a wonderful mood when we collect her. The range of activities which children take part in is excellent, as is the wide variety of food that is provided.
Staff are very friendly, professional, and clearly care a great deal about the children. The use of the app provides great reassurance - staff respond to any queries and messages in a quick and helpful manner, and we love all the photos and updates which allow us to see what our child is getting up to. We couldn’t be happier with the care provided since our daughter started in September - knowing your baby is safe and happy is the most important thing in the world. Thank you for everything you do.

Our daughter started attending the nursery two days per week in September, just as she turned 1. Every day she goes, she returns to us happy, full of confidence and babbling away about what we can only assume is the wonderful time she has had! About thirty minutes later she’s fast asleep, clearly in
need of a recharge after so much fun! The updates we receive always show her having a great time, enjoying a variety of activities and in lots of different environments. She’s always well fed too, and has tried many new meals whist being at nursery. The staff are attentive, friendly and always quick to respond with any questions you may have either face to face or using the app. We really couldn’t ask for more. The few stars dropped are more from a lack of my knowledge of the facility than a true reflection of what might be!

We couldn’t be more impressed with this nursery. The staff truly care about all the children and put their all into making the nursery a wonderful and engaging place for them to learn and play. They provide the children with so many opportunities from yoga, to music class, to forest school, and our
son and daughter just love it. They also create such imaginative activities, like the recent polar express day, that ensures that the children are never bored and feel genuinely excited about attending. The staff themselves are helpful, caring and communicate clearly with parents, both at pick up and drop off - and also via the app. We feel so lucky that our children have been able to attend Child 1st Bakewell.

Bakewell Nursery has been very good at settling my little boy, who found it difficult starting nursery. They have encouraged him to try new activities, and he loves yoga and rhyme time, too. They take time to share his show and tell, and he is always listened to when he has news to tell them from home.
I would certainly recommend this nursery to other parents.

As a father, leaving his little boy with people he doesn’t know genuinely gave me nightmares. My little boy was previously in another nursery within the local area, one which I was completely not happy with. I called Child 1st, and they understood my worry and managed to get my son in for a week taster.
The second I turned up, I felt content; all members of staff, no matter which room we walked around, said hello, the safety in place put my mind at ease, and the app, which I view daily, gives me peace of mind he’s okay. Every time I collect or drop him off, I’m met with a friendly member of staff. On collections, I’m always given a brief overview of how he’s been that day. When he’s at the nursery, I genuinely feel content, and that, for me, was the biggest thing. My son always comes out happy and smiling and is growing in confidence. The team always take time with me and him on handover, and I never leave him upset. Thank you!
