I can honestly say that I couldn’t have found a better nursery. The staff and facilities are wonderful. Loads of outdoor space next to a farm (!) and most importantly staff who are helping to nurture your child. I also love the small room sizes and the on-site kitchen.
What a wonderful review. Thank you so much.
Our three year old has attended since September and has enjoyed every single day. The outside play area with the bikes, massive sandpit and gardening patch give the children plenty of fresh air daily. Coupled with this, the learning and role play indoor activities and healthy nutritious food leads to a happy little lady. The staff are really caring, building strong bonds with the children, affirmed by how excited our daughter always is to see them, and the online reporting system keeps us up to date with videos and photos of her achievements.
Thank you, Rachel, for your wonderful review.
We could not be happier with the choice we made to send our daughter here. Since we started in September, the staff have made sure that she is happy and well looked after and she loves spending time at The Old School Nursery.
Thank you Sarah for your wonderful review.
From the moment I picked up the phone to enquire about viewing The Old School Nursery, I knew it was a special place. The staff have been nothing less than an extension of myself and my husband in the care and development of my Son since he joined at 9 months. I have the happiest little boy that is swaddled in love and learning each day he attends.
The setting speaks for itself but it is wonderful that the staff also use the surrounding area to take the children and babies out for nature walks and take them outside into their lovely playgrounds usually on a daily basis.
The majority of staff have been there for several years, appear to be very content and this in my experience, speaks highly of good management that value quality staff. In turn, I have no worries that my son is treated well, loved, kept interested and a very happy chap. We could not recommend this nursery harder if we tried, it is a very special place and I consider us to be incredibly lucky to be a part of it.
What a lovely review, thank you so much.
My daughter was a bit delayed in her speech and as a first-time mum this really worried me, the staff went above and beyond to encourage and support her and me. By working with her in smaller groups so she had more of a chance to shine, she is now the loudest little chatterbox!!
I have never had a complaint to say about the nursery or staff. It really is brilliant, keep up the great work. I recommend them to anyone looking for a nursery.
What a wonderful review, thank you so much.
I honestly cannot fault this nursery. As a first time Mum, I was very nervous about sending my daughter to nursery and leaving her. I had been given many recommendations and Old School Nursery was always mentioned. The moment my husband and I visited we knew this was the nursery for our daughter. The setting for the nursery is beautiful and the rooms are large and colourful with plenty of outdoor space too.
The staff are so welcoming and make you feel part of a big family. The staff made the settling in sessions stress-free and were amazing at putting myself and husband at ease when leaving our daughter.
Our daughter has been at Old School for 5 months now and she absolutely loves it. As a parent, I get sent regular updates on how she is doing and it is lovely to see how well cared for she is. Thank you Old School for being fantastic and being a second family for our daughter.
What a wonderful review, thank you so very much.
My daughter has been attending the nursery now for 4 months and has settled in really well. The nursery has brought her on in all aspects of socialising, speech and confidence. The staff are extremely friendly and well trained, you really feel welcomed and have complete confidence in leaving her there.
Thank you so much for your lovely review.
A very special nursery in a beautiful location surrounded by countryside with a large outdoor play area. My daughter loves coming to play with the ‘babies’ even though the babies she plays with are her age (2) she still refers to them as her babies!
My daughter is always happy to attend and is always making things or discovering new crafts and music. She has learnt so much from this nursery. At Christmas one of the Nursery Practitioners took some fantastic photos of my daughter which the nursery kindly printed off and gave me in a beautiful handmade photo frame. Such a nice, special touch.
They all work so hard and show so much love for the children. I am so grateful for their care they give my daughter.
What a lovely review, thank you so much.
Our 1 year old and almost 3 year old started at the nursery in December 2017. During their first month, they have been exceptionally well taken care of, and have thrived in a safe, fun and stimulating environment (in a beautiful spot too!). The staff are never too busy to answer questions and give a rundown on the children’s day, and the office staff are very communicative also.
Both of our children settled extremely quickly and that is down to the professionalism and inclusive attitude of the staff and their wonderful rooms which are lovely to visit every morning and evening. The ‘extras’ provided by the nursery (lovely events at Christmas for example) top-off what is a fantastic offering - I am sure our children will both continue to develop wonderfully here!
What a wonderful review, thank you so much.
All of the staff have been fantastic with him and helped him settle and enjoy his days at the nursery. It's such a lovely & happy place for him and we couldn't be happier that he is attending here.
Thank you so much, Sam, for your wonderful review considering your son has only been with us a few weeks.
Over a year later I couldn't fault this nursery. My son absolutely loves it here and adores all the staff. He enjoys the home cooked food and being able to go outside to play during the good weather and be able to go for countryside walks. The range of activities they do inside on rainy days are also fantastic. A wonderful nursery in a beautiful countryside setting with a real homely feel to it. Cannot recommend highly enough.
What a lovely review Meg, thank you so much it means a great deal to us.
8 years with NO complaints about anything is remarkable and a credit to the manager and her staff.
Thank you Kathryn for your lovely review. We are going to miss you all so much.
Ever since the manager showed us around, we had positive feelings about the place, staff, activities, routines, kitchen and menus.
As a first time Mum, I was anxious to leave my son on the first day. My fear about leaving him soon disappeared. Staff were able to put my mind at rest, and I soon became familiar with the online journal to see what he was up to.
Since then we have continued to be more than impressed with all aspects of the nursery. Staff are always enthusiastic and make us feel like our son is really special to them.
We feel the interaction and activities provided at the nursery have been the catalyst for his development improving so rapidly.
Thank you so much for your wonderful review about the nursery. It means so much to us and we really appreciate your time in sending it in.
Our little girl has been with the nursery for just under a year. She has flourished here and it really is a lovely place to be. She started in the baby room and the staff were so kind and supportive. As a returning to work mum, they made the experience so easy. In the Bumblebee room, she has flourished and her speech has improved with the interactive play the ladies offer.
Thank you Sarah for your very kind words they mean so much to us.
I first found out about Shapwick Nursery with my eldest son who came here from the age of 1 till he was ready to move to school. He loved it so much, that we are back with our youngest. It's a fabulous place which really cares about your child's welfare and encourages great values, such as sharing, caring and good manners. All the children are encouraged to spend time outside in traditional play, allocated individual key workers with staff who really care about the kids. If you want someone to look after your children the way you would, then Shapwick is your nursery.
Kate thank you so much for your wonderful review and it is so special having your daughter with us too. She is an absolute pleasure and has settled in so well.
After being very apprehensive about sending our son to a nursery and not having a good previous experience I was very worried about how it would go I definitely needn't have as The Old School Nursery is a wonderful place for any child. My son quickly settled after only a few sessions and now cannot wait to go in every time its nursery day. As a mummy, this is priceless to know that when you're not with them they are safe, happy and having a lovely fun time and want to go again and again.
Helen thank you so much for your kind words. Your son is such a pleasure and gives everyone the biggest smile as you walk into his room. He just melts our hearts.
I could not rate The Old School Nursery highly enough, my daughter has been there since she was 1yrs when I returned to work in January and she absolutely loves it. The staff made her feel totally at ease and settled which made my return to work and having to leave her so much easier than I was expecting. She comes home a happy well fed little girl which is perfect. The activities that they do even at a young age are brilliant and I can already tell that her socialising skills have improved dramatically since attending. I would recommend The Old School Nursery to anyone in the local area.
Rachel thank you for your very kind words they mean a great deal to us. Your daughter is flourishing and such a pleasure to care for.
Our daughter has been at The Old School Nursery for just over two months now and we are really impressed so far.
Whilst we found the idea of dropping our 9 month old baby off at nursery, nerve racking, all of the staff were so reassuring and we became very quickly confident of their care. The children's safety and wellbeing are paramount, which certainly gives peace of mind.
We particularly enjoy the frequent updates on 'Tapestry', the online portal, which show pictures/videos of our daughter's activities during the day!
I would definitely recommend this nursery to any prospective parents looking in the area.
Emma that is such a wonderful review considering you have only been with us for a few months. Thank you so much. Your daughter has settled in so well and loving her new experiences at the Nursery.
Great welcome from nursery and appreciated phone call on our son's first day to reassure me he was quite happy. A brilliant key worker who gives lovely feedback at the end of each session. Our son is always happy when dropped off and picked up. He loves it and the food!
Lisa thank you so much for your kind words. Your son is such a pleasure and has settled in so well.
My daughter goes to The Old School Nursery two days a week. She enjoys her time there and is happy to go into the nursery in the mornings. The staff - even those who are not in her room - know us by name and are always friendly and cheerful. The staff in her room are without fail friendly and caring and very well informed. The facilities and activities are brilliant. The atmosphere is friendly and feels like a big family, and the whole nursery feels safe and secure. I cannot fault it!
What a wonderful review considering you have only been with us for such a short time. We love having your daughter with us and will cherish her every step of her journey with us at the Old School Nursery.

Meet the Team (10)
After 7 years working as a nanny and child minder in the USA and UK I decided I wanted to work in a Nursery environment gaining qualifications in Early Years. It soon became apparent that the Nurseries I worked in did not provide the very best quality childcare and I decided to open my own. After gaining a Diploma in Business Studies in 2002 I opened the doors to The Old School Nursery with three children and six full time staff.
We have now created a ‘home away from home environment.’ where your precious little ones will learn, grow, flourish and be loved and cherished. With 25 amazing, highly experienced and qualified staff we will do all we can to support you and your child during your journey with us.
I am incredibly proud of what we do at The Old School Nursery and the difference we make to the lives of children at such an important stage of their development.

I have worked with children for 8 years and recently achieved my Foundation Degree in Early Years and I aspire to become an Early Years Professional.
I enjoy circuit training and socialising with friends and family.
I like working with children because it's rewarding, I can have a positive impact in their formative years and help them develop and grow holistically.
Working at The Old School is like being one big family. Everybody works together and supports each other just like a family! Every day is unique and special as the next.
I have worked in Child Care since 1998 and completed my NVQ Level 2 in a rural day nursery. Since moving into the village I wanted to try something different and was fortunate to gain the position of Nursery Cook at The Old School Nursery. I now have my Health and Hygiene Certificate Level 2.

I have a passion for music; I play many instruments and write my own music too. I strongly believe that music has magical qualities and can be used very effectively to enhance children's learning. Children naturally love music and the benefits to their development in communication language and literacy are huge.
I love the fun that the children bring. Watching them learn and progress is extremely rewarding. Conversations can be funny, frustrating and magical all at once! Children are very special.
Working at The Old School is a pleasure. The children are the most important consideration and their needs always come first.
