I only wish I was a toddler so I could spend my days here too! I couldn’t be happier with my choice to send my boy here; it’s the most magical place, his days are full of exploration, wonder and adventure. A beautiful setting and an amazing team of people.

Friendly and helpful. Supports as a family unit as well as each individual child and their needs. Meals are healthy and age-appropriate. Children always get to go outside come rain or shine. Always updating parents via the online portal.

Staff welcomed my son and helped him to settle quickly. They were keen to get to know us as a family, which really helps my son to share experiences between home and nursery. I have been impressed with their response to the current, very challenging situation, and grateful for their warm nurturing and
professional approach to my son. Thanks, Old School!

My son has only just started with this nursery, but we’ve had a very warm welcome.
The children’s welfare is definitely the nursery’s top priority.
I love that I’m given updates via an online app about my sons day, particularly as he’s only just settling in.
The staff have all been very polite and
friendly, and the food sounds to be good quality homemade fare.
Very happy to leave the care of my son with The Old School Nursery.

The Old School Nursery is just amazing. My daughter has attended since she was 9-months-old, and they have helped her develop and become a wonderful young lady who will be ready to start school in September. They have provided support to both her and us, as her parents, throughout her early years. It's
such a fun supportive and caring environment, and I would recommend to anyone.

I have never known a nursery that feels so welcoming when you walk in. The day we viewed The Old School Nursery my daughter felt so comfortable that she just walked in exploring the whole building. When your child feels that comfortable to do that I knew this was the nursery to put my daughter into
and I definitely made the right choice.
My daughter loves every minute of being at the nursery. She has been there since she was 2 and now in her last year there. The staff are absolutely amazing, they have great bonds with the children and families. It is lovely to see that the children go outside a lot, which is absolutely lovely to see when picking them up and seeing them all playing outside. Also, the nursery portal is brilliant especially when they are going to nursery for the first time, they put so much on there that it is lovely to see what your child has been up to on their first day at nursery if you're at work or at home feeling anxious leaving them, it really makes you feel at ease.

Well, where do I start! The Old School Nursery is an absolute gem. My daughter started when she was just 11 months when I had to go back to work. Being a first-time mum, I was very nervous and emotional about her starting nursery as I didn't know what to expect however with the support of the staff,
our daughter is so settled and has developed amazingly. She is only 18 months and she is walking, talking, she can say please and thank you, amongst many other words. She has picked up social skills and is learning something new every day. She genuinely waves me off in the morning as she is so happy to be there! I wouldn't trust anyone else with her and I am so pleased I chose you. So thank you for all the love and care you give my little monkey.

Our son (now 11) came to The Old School Nursery as a baby, until he started school, and when our daughter was ready to start nursery, we knew where she would go, without hesitation.
We know this because the staff here treat your little one like their own, and I can feel confident in the knowledge
that our little girl gets as much love and support as she would at home.
The days are structured but flexible and are centred around the children's health and happiness. I love seeing my baby's progress on the Tapestry app.
All the staff have a genuine affection for the children, and for us, this is the most important aspect for childcare. We needed to know our baby would be cuddled and comforted when she needed it, whilst learning and having fun!
Reply from Ewa Praschma at The Old School Nursery (Shapwick) LtdThank you so much for your lovely feedback. We cherished your son all of those years ago and will do the same for your daughter. It's so exciting to have you back in the nursery family.

I was so happy from the moment I looked around this nursery. I felt at home and at ease and my son was happy enough to get down and play without any fuss!
He has been going for a few weeks, and whilst he has started being a little clingy as he is now realising we leave (not just for nursery, anytime
we leave the room!). The staff are fantastic with him and within a few moments, he is calm and happy. Everyone is so friendly and nothing is ever a problem.
I love getting the photo updates and he always looks so happy!!
He used to be really fussy with food but the team have worked with him and he is getting much more experimental with food and appears to be eating more, which is fantastic!
We are so happy that we found The Old School Nursery, I would recommend it to everyone if I could!

My little boy started in the preschool room in September, aged 3 years old after being with a childminder since he was 10 months old. I was so worried but the staff are absolutely amazing - they are so friendly, warm and welcoming, which settled my nerves (and his). My little boy not only loves his
keyworker but has built a great relationship with all of the staff in his room - calling them his teachers. He's made lots of friends and some days he doesn't want to come home.
I can't fault the nursery at all, he's come on leaps and bounds and is definitely ready to start school this September as a result of attending this preschool. He constantly amazes me with growing knowledge and understanding - and thank his lovely "teachers" for helping settle him into the new environment so quickly and successfully.

My little girl started at the nursery in September 2018 when she was just 9 months old. At home we struggled to get her to sleep in the house, so would end up walking with the buggy to get her to sleep. Since starting nursery, this has changed so much.
Now 14 months, she takes naps in her cot, self
settles herself, feeds herself and has weaned off my breastmilk without any problems. I’m convinced that the staff at the nursery have been paramount for this.

The staff are so invested in helping her reach her goals and develop as an individual. They’re definitely part of our family now. Not only are they there for the children, they’re also invested in us as a family. My daughter loves them so much and now occasionally cries when I pick her up to take her home.

With nappies, milk, food, walks and lots of fun all included in the price, makes it so much easier as all we need to remember is her spare clothes.

It’s a tough time when you go back to work but my daughter is so happy at The Old School Nursery.
My daughter started at 9 months old in the baby room and she loves it there!
Every morning she goes in with smiles on her face and clearly feels happy there.

This nursery treats the children like

family, the staff are so happy and friendly and I love that there is a mixed age range of staff.
My daughter has the best time doing lots of different activities, they go on walks and do lots of messy play too. The food at the nursery is great too, nappies are also included which is a great help and makes my life easier.
We are kept up to date via tapestry and a daily feedback sheet so we know exactly what she has been up to.
I honestly know my daughter is in the best place. As soon as I visited this nursery I knew it was the right place.

Thank you to all the staff

My son started at The Old School Nursery in September 2017 when he was 9 months old. He is my first child and I was extremely nervous about leaving him and returning to part-time work. I knew from the moment I looked around the nursery that it was the right place for him. It is a warm and welcoming
environment, full of colour and fun. But what really makes this nursery outstanding is the staff. I can honestly say they are the happiest, friendliest group of people I've ever met! Even on cold, grey mornings, we are greeted with bright smiles and cheerful conversation. My son is comfortable with any of them, not just his key workers, a real testament to their abilities with babies and children alike. He is developing in leaps and bounds and learning invaluable interaction skills during his time there. The management team are fantastic, incredibly organised, and help create a real sense of community with regular email updates and are always on hand if you need anything.

The Old School Nursery is a really lovely place for my son to spend his time. The countryside setting is calming and beautiful, the food is great (and my son eats his fair share) and the child-staff ratio is really nice. But most of all, the staff are friendly, kind and fun and just the right measures:
my wife and I really feel good about who is looking after our boy while we're out working, and he seems to adore them.

At Christmas, we attended a nativity which was both sweet and hilarious. The kids had such a great time and seeing them dressed up as farmyard animals, kings or angels was unspeakably cute. The staff had obviously worked so hard and it rounded the year off in a warm, community-spirited way. Just wonderful.

Our second son will start at the Old School in a few months and we know he'll be in the best hands.

My son has been attending The Old School Nursery for a few months now and absolutely loves it. He transitioned into the nursery seamlessly, and I have never felt that he hasn't enjoyed himself here. He's always come back full of stories of his day and what he's been up to. He attends full time and it's
always a comfort to know that he loves being there and he is well cared for in my absence. The ladies are fantastic- all activities are so creative and the support they offer to your child to develop and try their best at each and every task really helps to instil confidence in them. Tapestry is regularly updated which gives you a great insight into what they get up to throughout the day, be that Welly walks locally, outside play or some creative project inside. Days are filled with exciting, creative and educational activities helping them to develop as individuals. Your child is the best measure of how good an establishment is, and from my son's reaction, The Old School nursery is fabulous!

Current Review Score: 10.0 (9.964)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 10 (9.964) out of 10 for The Old School Nursery (Shapwick) Ltd is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 35 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 35 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Day Nursery is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.964 for The Old School Nursery (Shapwick) Ltd is calculated as follows: ( (405 Excellents x 5) + (15 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 420 Ratings = 4.964
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for The Old School Nursery (Shapwick) Ltd is based on 35 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the number of registered child places in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Day Nursery registered for a maximum of 50 child places has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 59 number of registered child places is 11.8, which has been reached with 35 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Day Nursery does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

After 7 years working as a nanny and child minder in the USA and UK I decided I wanted to work in a Nursery environment gaining qualifications in Early Years. It soon became apparent that the Nurseries I worked in did not provide the very best quality childcare and I decided to open my own. After gaining a Diploma in Business Studies in 2002 I opened the doors to The Old School Nursery with three children and six full time staff.

We have now created a ‘home away from home environment.’ where your precious little ones will learn, grow, flourish and be loved and cherished. With 25 amazing, highly experienced and qualified staff we will do all we can to support you and your child during your journey with us.

I am incredibly proud of what we do at The Old School Nursery and the difference we make to the lives of children at such an important stage of their development.

I like working with children because it's rewarding, I can have a positive impact in their formative years and help them develop and grow holistically.

Working at The Old School is like being one big family. Everybody works together and supports each other just like a family! Every day is unique and special as the next.

Job Title: Nursery Cook Joined: 2014

I have worked in Child Care since 1998 and completed my NVQ Level 2 in a rural day nursery. Since moving into the village I wanted to try something different and was fortunate to gain the position of Nursery Cook at The Old School Nursery. I now have my Health and Hygiene Certificate Level 2.

I enjoy walking, pilates and I love looking after my two grandchildren who I have the pleasure of seeing on a regular basis.

I enjoy working as the Nursery Cook as it is challenging and different; I enjoy seeking new ways to adopt healthy food and menus and engaging the children with this.

I believe The Old School Nursery is a unique place to work because it's a lovely caring environment! The children are well looked after, the staff work extremely hard and their commitment to their roles and responsibilities is wonderful!

Outside of work I like to keep active at the gym, enjoy walking our dog and spending quality time with my daughters, family and friends.

I love the rewarding aspect of working with children. It is a privilege to build relationships with the children and their parents and give them the best start in nursery life.

The Old School is a unique place to work as it is set in a quiet and beautiful location, surrounded by animals and it's a wonderful environment to visit with the children.

We have a very close team and most of the staff have been here for many years; it is a lovely nursery.

Job Title: Early Years Educator and Music Teacher Joined: 2016

I have been working in Child Care since 2002 when the youngest of my own three children went to school. I ran a Pre School for 7 years in Milton Abbas during which time I completed my Foundation Degree in Early Years.

I have a passion for music; I play many instruments and write my own music too. I strongly believe that music has magical qualities and can be used very effectively to enhance children's learning. Children naturally love music and the benefits to their development in communication language and literacy are huge.

I love the fun that the children bring. Watching them learn and progress is extremely rewarding. Conversations can be funny, frustrating and magical all at once! Children are very special.

Working at The Old School is a pleasure. The children are the most important consideration and their needs always come first.
