Both of my children have attended The Old School Nursery (Shapwick), the youngest of which has just started school this September.
I have been extremely pleased with the Nursery, and would definitely recommend it to anyone who is considering childcare for their children. It is a really happy, homely and friendly nursery with lovely, experienced and helpful staff, many of whom have been there for a long time.
Both of my children have developed into very happy, sociable and confident little people, and I owe a huge part of this to the Nursery. They have both started school with absolutely no problems and settled in straight away with no tears or fears.
Thank you to everyone at The Old School Nursery!
Kindest Regards,
Ewa
This is a welcoming, friendly and professional setting. My grandson blossomed in the care there. The meals are excellent and he is not a fussy child at all now which I put down to eating meal times with his peers, having good home cooked food.
Kindest Regards,
Ewa
Both my son and daughter attended the Old School Nursery, they both thoroughly enjoyed their time there. I can't speak highly enough - fabulous caring staff, my son adored and my daughter still asks if she can have a lady with the ponytail - and my daughter left 14 months ago!
It's one big happy family, lovely staff, lovely setting, lots of fun, lovely food, my son especially enjoyed the roast chicken and fish pie. They both enjoyed welly walks, and water play, and were always filthy when I picked them up, but I know they'd had a good time.
My husband and I looked at several nurseries, and the Old School in our opinion was definitely the best. The manager and her team do an excellent job. Our children have many happy memories about "Little School" as they fondly refer to it.
Thank you so much for your kind words, they mean a great deal to us.
Amazing Nursery. Would highly recommend it. My daughter had many happy and well supported years there. It has given her confidence and a firm grounding to prepare for life at prep school. Well done to the team.
My son has been attending the nursery for over 2 years and has always loved going. The nursery is advertised as a home away from home and this is certainly the case, it is often hard to get him to leave because he's having soo much fun! The staff are always friendly and informative, keeping you up to date with your child's progress and telling you all about funny things that have been said or done during the day. The online tapestry journal that the nursery uses is regularly updated with photos so that you can see what the children have been up to and provides a really interesting record of progress and capabilities. I particularly like the fact that the children spend a lot of time outdoors whether its rain or sunshine! I would highly recommend the nursery.
Dear Kirstie
Thank you so much for your kind review it means so much to us.

Finding the right child care is so important and worrying for a mum, my husband and I choose The Old School Nursery after looking at a few and decided that the atmosphere, care, friendliness was outstanding. Our little girl has been going their since she was in babies and now in pre school and due to leave in September it will be very sad. She has loved everyday day their and never not wanted to go. I personally love the area that she is in the country at nursery instead of being in a town.
Dear Sarah
Thank you so much for your kind review. Trust me it will be a very sad day when she leaves us to go on to the next chapter in her life. There will be many tears shared but it is wonderful to know that we have given her the best start in life.
Kind regards

My daughter, who is just 8 months, has been going to The Old School Nursery for just 3 weeks and has settled in exceptionally well. The staff are lovely and such caring people, who cannot do enough to alleviate any worries about leaving your precious little one. I love receiving the updates via email with pictures showing how she is getting on. The feedback at the end of each session is brilliant and she is clearly a busy little girl with all the activities on offer. I would highly recommend this nursery.
Dear Vicki
Thank you so much for your kind review and it means so much to us.

The Old School Nursery
The Old School Nursery is a fabulous place with dedicated and enthusiastic staff. It has great facilities but still has a lovely small 'home from home' feeling where every member of staff appears to know every child's name (impressive!). The staff genuinely care about the children and, as a result, it's a very happy place. They have been brilliant dealing with my son's multiple allergies, catering for him specially and never making an issue of this. He loves it there and I feel very comfortable leaving him with them. The fees are straightforward and cover everything, including 3 good meals a day which makes life so much easier when you're working. Highly recommended!
Dear Clemency
Thank you so much for your kind review, it means so much to us.

I found looking for the right nursery for my daughters a really hard and emotional time. I viewed many but The Old School Nursery stuck out by far. I have found all the staff friendly and approachable. My daughters always walk in and go straight to play. It is such a welcoming atmosphere and I would highly recommend this nursery.
Dear Rebecca
Thank you so much for your kind review. It means so much to us.

What a pleasant surprise to find a place like Old school nursery. I had heard that it was good nursery and I can honestly say the reviews were not wrong. As a very nervous (older) 1st time mum, I have found there help and support invaluable. My daughter has excelled with language, coordination, social skills, movement and expression since joining, I have had many people comment of how pleasant her manor is, and after only 4 months of being at Old school nursery. There are many great services, on joining, they made note of all MY wishes for my daughter, special toys, dietary needs, habit and routines, concerns I had, medications to use, who to contact, photo id's of people allow to collect your child and much more. The tapestry link which allows you to see photos of what they have been up to and areas they are currently developing. There is a monthly newsletter, with upcoming events, nursery updates, and activities for both parents and children to participate in should you wish. The fees are very reasonable in comparison to other nursery's, with longer opening hours, all meals, snacks, nappies and activities included. They embrace the seasons and encourage outdoor play and learning. On collection of your child you are given a complete rundown of their day and the staff are happy to chat with you about any concerns you may have or just chat, which makes me feel confident leaving my daughter in their care. A truly exceptional start for any child, and one my 15 month old daughter thoroughly enjoys!!
Claire what a wondeful review. Thank you so much for taking the time to give such detail and for all of your positve feedback. I will share it with the girls who will be thrilled to read your lovely comments. It's so special to know that we are making such a difference as that's what it is all about. Kind regards Ewa
This nursery is a hidden diamond. It feels like a big friendly family. I have never had any concerns about leaving my 2 boys in their care. The boys have loved every moment of their time there. They have a wide, fun and imaginative syllabus. The nursery is in and idyllic country village setting that they utilise whenever possible. I believe that it is also very good value for money especially as they provide nappies, all food, toothbrushes and a very high quality level of care. Thank you The Old School.
One of the scariest moments in a parents life is leaving their most precious, most loved and most vulnerable human being with people they do not really know. With The Old School Nursery, what should have been a traumatic experience became a moment handled with grace, kindness, support and understanding. The level of care that the highly skilled, motivated and nurturing staff give not just to the child entrusted to them but to the whole family is astounding. I truly feel that these people have become my son's second family, people he loves, trusts and enjoys spending time with. I cannot recommend this nursery highly enough - not only does it have great facilities, encourage a love of learning through play and allowing children to express themselves in their own way, they are also sensitive to each individual child's needs - to the point of allowing my son to sleep in their arms when the cot proved too scary for him! There is a real energy surrounding the nursery and I feel blessed to have found such a wonderful place for my son to develop in.
The children have a fun filled day from start to finish with yummy home-made food, plenty of learning through free play and some structured sessions. The outside area provides an exciting large space for them to enjoy exploring the large equipment, run off some steam and get their hands dirty!
Our 3 year old son is always so happy when he arrives at the nursery and we feel content leaving him there while we are away at work. It is such a homely and loving environment and there are always plenty of hugs to go around :)
I highly recommend The Old School Nursery. I was very nervous about my daughter starting nursery as she was only 8 months old, however the nursery girls were fantastic and completely put me at ease. My daughter loves going to the nursery and gets excited in the morning when I drop her off. The nursery regularly keeps me updated with pictures and details on how she is progressing with Tapestry, which is great!
It's a great nurturing environment the staff are fantastic, all so friendly , they all take a real interest in your child and how they are developing.
The hours are also really good for working mums and the cooked meals mean you know your child is well fed if you are working long days.
I really could not recommend this nursery enough.
My son has been at the Old School Nursery for a year now and thoroughly loves it - I have trouble getting him out when it's time to go home! He has settled in really well and has thrived in the stimulating and caring environment. The activities, staff, food and outside space are all fab! It's such peace of mind that when I leave him, I know that he's being really well nurtured and looked after. I cannot recommend this nursery highly enough.
The location is beautiful and the children are often taken out into the village to engage with the beautiful surroundings.
The staff are excellent. It is like being part of an extended family. Staff know all of the children at the nursery and are so friendly and welcoming to the children and parents alike. They are supportive, loving and caring. They provide full and informative feedback at the end of the day to let you know how your child has been and what they have been up to. The online tapestry system also allows you to see what they have been doing and the staff will frequently post photos, videos and developmental updates on your child.
The activities they provide for the children are fun and varied and they have such a busy and active day. They also provide a lot of outdoors play which my children love.
My 4 year old will soon be leaving to start at 'Big School' and although an exciting time I know he will miss nursery so much!!! But I also know that they have helped develop and care for him and have assisted in making him a happy, polite and sociable little boy.
My son Charlie has attended the Old School Nursery in Shapwick since he was 9 months old, he is now 3 and about to start in the pre-school room come September. Charlie absolutely loves it there!
I found it really tough leaving my little man, but after a few settling in sessions at the nursery, I knew we had made the right decision. Open from 7:45 – 6, with everything included (wipes, nappies, formula, snacks etc) they make it very easy for busy parents.
The Director (which sounds a bit scary) is actually really hands on with the children, she knows everybody’s name. It is clear that she has extremely high standards with a true passion for looking after babies and young children.
The staff are amazing, always friendly and happy to see each child in the mornings, and they give you a full handover at the end of each day. The children eat delicious home cooked food, with a carefully balanced menu which changes frequently. They are also understanding and patient with children who may not be quite as adventurous about trying new things (my little boy wouldn’t eat sandwiches at one point, so they would give him crackers instead)
The nursery is in a beautiful village setting, and has a fabulous playground which the children play in as much as possible. There are lots of different toys, balls, bikes, a sand pit, a vegetable garden and even a pirate ship to play in. Every day the children do something different, whether they are inside or out. Charlie especially loves role play, cafés or shoe shops are his favourites!
I would highly recommend the Old School Nursery to anyone looking for childcare in the Blandford / Wimborne area.
I trust the staff implicitly with the care of my children and would not hesitate in recommending the Old School Nursery to anyone. As a mother the decision to send our kids to nursery when I went back to work wasn't easy but knowing they were happy made it so much more bearable. Thank you Old School Nursery.
Both my children have attended The Old School Nursery and we all love it! The staff are so kind and caring and the children have a fun-filled day with such a large variety of activities.
The outside space is fantastic with a great playground area, sandpit, gardening area and lots of toys. The meals provided are healthy and both my children have enjoyed hearty helpings with seconds always available!
The key workers give lots of information at the end of each day and a log of the children's achievements with photos is also done. The children are also taken out on wellie walks around the beautiful local countryside and my son particularly likes the horses opposite! Numerous craft and messy activities are undertaken and there are also cosy areas for reading a book. I would highly recommend the nursery.

Meet the Team (10)
After 7 years working as a nanny and child minder in the USA and UK I decided I wanted to work in a Nursery environment gaining qualifications in Early Years. It soon became apparent that the Nurseries I worked in did not provide the very best quality childcare and I decided to open my own. After gaining a Diploma in Business Studies in 2002 I opened the doors to The Old School Nursery with three children and six full time staff.
We have now created a ‘home away from home environment.’ where your precious little ones will learn, grow, flourish and be loved and cherished. With 25 amazing, highly experienced and qualified staff we will do all we can to support you and your child during your journey with us.
I am incredibly proud of what we do at The Old School Nursery and the difference we make to the lives of children at such an important stage of their development.

I have worked with children for 8 years and recently achieved my Foundation Degree in Early Years and I aspire to become an Early Years Professional.

I like working with children because it's rewarding, I can have a positive impact in their formative years and help them develop and grow holistically.
Working at The Old School is like being one big family. Everybody works together and supports each other just like a family! Every day is unique and special as the next.
I have worked in Child Care since 1998 and completed my NVQ Level 2 in a rural day nursery. Since moving into the village I wanted to try something different and was fortunate to gain the position of Nursery Cook at The Old School Nursery. I now have my Health and Hygiene Certificate Level 2.

I have a passion for music; I play many instruments and write my own music too. I strongly believe that music has magical qualities and can be used very effectively to enhance children's learning. Children naturally love music and the benefits to their development in communication language and literacy are huge.
