Our 3.5-year-old daughter started Silks Farm in November 2018.
I like the space and facilities available to the children, as well as the nursery staff.
The only negative being the inflexibility found recently upon asking to swap a morning around - pertaining to a friend having arranged my “surprise”
baby shower. It was a one-off request and I was advised that the morning I needed was available in terms of numbers, BUT I would need to add the half day on to her normal FT hours and pay extra rather than swap the Tues morning for the Mon.
I found this unreasonable, particularly as I had no control over this special day and the availability was there. For the first time, I felt like the nursery were prioritising money over care which I strongly frown upon. It is a shame because this is not a reflection of the actual nursery staff working in the room itself, more on the franchise/company policy. To end on a positive note I find the online Tapestry monitoring system excellent and very interactive!
Reply from Rosie Cartwright, Marketing Assistant at Silks Farm Day Nursery and PreschoolThank you for recognising how essential well-qualified, enthusiastic staff are required to delivering outstanding childcare to progress your little one’s continuous learning. We will pass your kind feedback on to our team at Silks Farm.

We are sorry to read that we were unable to fulfil your request to swap days and this could be for a number of reasons, in particular, the correct staffing ratios. Please do speak to our nursery management team if you do have any concerns in the future and they will try and help as much as possible.

My little girl has shown great progress starting from the baby room through to hedgehogs. She has great bonds with the staff. The food is always healthy and plenty of it. They do lots of activities and outdoor play no matter what the weather. She is moving up to the preschool room in April and both
I and she aren’t worried about this transition, I’m sure she will settle quickly in the room. This is a great nursery and would highly recommend to anyone.

To say we were disappointed in this nursery is an understatement! After positive visits to check the place out we took our daughter for her first 1.5hr settling in session.
Upon arrival, communication about the plan for the session, and about our daughter’s current status/behaviour, was rather limited
but it was on collection that things went downhill. I found our daughter in an emotional state and with a lost voice caused from prolonged crying. Communication about what had occurred was again limited so we called to be told that our daughter was put into a cot and left to self-soothe for 20 minutes! For 20 minutes our baby daughter was left unattended and uncomforted in unfamiliar surroundings, screaming for all she was worth and to such an extent that it left her throat sore and her voice broken. We found this totally unacceptable and even the nursery manager acknowledged failings. But despite her best efforts, our trust in the nursery was shattered and we won’t return.
Reply from Sara Meikle at Silks Farm Day Nursery and PreschoolThank you for your feedback about your recent experience with our nursery and we are very sorry that it wasn't a positive one. We are working with staff to ensure that this does not happen again as this is not the standard of care that we expect. If you did want to raise your concerns any further, please don't hesitate to contact our Head Office at marketing@kiddicaru.com or on 0800 028 4500.

All three of our children have attended or are still attending Silks Farm Nursery School.
The kids are always happy to attend and the older ones come back talking about their day with enthusiasm. Lots of outdoor play when the weather isn't horrible. The kids do come home muddy but happy! The staff
are very friendly and helpful and have been very flexible with the numerous dietary requirements of our children. The hours that the nursery are open (7am-7pm) are perfect for juggling both of our jobs around childcare, pickup and drop-off. Would 100% recommend this nursery for anyone thinking of sending their kids here.

Our daughter has been at Silks Farm for 1 year now and I can honestly say the experience she has received has been World class. Within this time she has been in 2 different classes and has struck an amazing relationship with each of her lead careers she has been assigned to which has been so important
for her development.

What comes across so well is the caring and friendly nature every employee has at the nursery which is visible in every interaction you have with them. Whenever we arrive or leave I have never seen any staff with anything other than a welcoming smile on their faces. The standards they have set are visibly to a high standard with any issues discussed and resolved quickly with minimal impact. The feedback we receive at the end of each day is also full of great detail and the regular updates we receive via the website are great to see how she is developing. If I could use one word to describe the experience so far it would be faultless.

Both my children have attended this nursery and I cannot recommend it highly enough. My eldest is now at school but still enjoys speaking about his time there and the staff who helped to care for him.
Both my children have thrived in the setting and they certainly ensured that my oldest child was
well prepared to deal with the demands of school.
My youngest loves being at nursery and there is always new and exciting activities going on. The nursery has some incredible outdoor space which they make the most of and the food makes me want to go and have lunch there! The staff are incredibly supportive of any queries or changes that need to be made and know all the children by name. My youngest has blossomed under their care from a shy and clingy baby to a confident and independent young child. I know she is in very capable hands with them. It has got busier since we started going there four years ago, but the level of care and attention has not diminished.

Choosing Silks Farm as the nursery for my little one was the best decision I ever made. My son has gone from strength to strength supported by fantastic staff who always go the extra mile, I particularly like the sensory play toys which the staff makes themselves. As a working mum, I know my son is
in safe hands and the opening hours ensure that we can balance our work with our childcare. The all-inclusive nature of the nursery means less worry and hassle when rushing out the door and is one less thing to worry about. The learning focus of the nursery is great right from the very start balancing fun with educational development. The outdoor and indoor facilities are fantastic including the forest school which the children love to explore.

Both of my children love it here. My eldest even asks to go to nursery on her day off. There’s lots of outdoor space, the children are outside in the fresh air as much as possible. They enjoy so many activities - Tatty Bumpkin (yoga), crafts, sessions with a local rugby coach, collecting eggs & exploring
an ambulance to name a few. As the price is all-inclusive, I don’t need to worry about bringing anything except some spare clothes. Meals prepared on site are healthy & from a balanced menu. Management is very responsive to queries & whenever I have had a problem, it has been rectified straight away (eg napping at a certain time). The biggest asset is the staff who are fantastic. Although there does seem to be a fair amount of turnover, I guess this is the nature of the occupation. My children’s key workers know their personalities so well and other staff have gone above & beyond the call of duty at times. This is all so much appreciated. I would highly recommend this nursery to anyone.

The staff can not do enough to help and reassure you. The nursery is well maintained and everyone very helpful.
The nursery allows a slightly earlier and later time slots than other nurseries in the area and location is good for not having to sit through lots of traffic to get there and back.

I have 3 children. All 3 of my children have or will go to Silks Farm. It is an amazing nursery and the childcare provided is second to none. My oldest son who is now 7 still talks about his time at Silks, the staff and the learning that took place. My 2 year son has been at Silks Farm since he was
6 months old. He has a great time, every day. He loves the outdoor learning in particular the forest school. He has made great relationships with the staff and other children. He is learning and having great fun at the same time. My 7 month old baby is due to start in a couple months. I know he will be looked after and will have a great start to his education. It is not always easy to be a single working Mother but I know my children are looked after, cared for and loved at Silks Farm, in addition to the great learning experiences they have. As a teacher I cannot fault the early education and communication received from the nursery. Keep going you are all doing a fab job :)

Our daughter has been at Silks Farm since the age of eight months. She is now in her final few months at the nursery before starting at Primary school in September 2018. Her development has completely amazed us, especially over the last couple of years. We receive regular updates from her key-workers
and staff working closely with her on her achievements, progression and learning objectives for the future. The nursery really involves us as parents and allows us to follow on from activities/themes/future learning at home. 'Lesson plans' and daily activities are displayed in the rooms so parents can see what is going on in the room weekly. Our daughter really enjoys going to nursery and has made some close friendships. The staff are knowledgeable, friendly, approachable and it is clear they enjoy their work. We will certainly miss Silks Farm since it has been a big part of our daughter's and our lives for the last four and a bit years.

Amazing nursery! My son has had ongoing ear infections and struggled with his behaviour. At times he cries, not in pain, but gets very frustrated, taking it out in his behaviour. The staff have been exceptionally patient and offered him extra help from a speech therapist. This has empowered his speech
and he is now able to sit down for up to 15 - 20 mins when it used to be seconds. This is because of the staff that work with him.

I know I still have a long way to go with him but he is a full character which the staff embrace. The staff listen and are more than helpful if parents are struggling with any aspect of their child. The Silks Farm team are been brilliant and patient. My son is a strong-minded child and hard work which the but the staff are willing to help him with his development and behaviour to become the character that he is.

Current Review Score: 8.6 (8.616)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.6 (8.616) out of 10 for Silks Farm Day Nursery and Preschool is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 6 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.8 out of 5 from 6 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Day Nursery is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.775 for Silks Farm Day Nursery and Preschool is calculated as follows: ( (59 Excellents x 5) + (8 Goods x 4) + (4 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 71 Ratings = 4.775
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 3.841 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Silks Farm Day Nursery and Preschool is based on 6 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 = 3.55
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the number of registered child places in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Day Nursery registered for a maximum of 50 child places has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 103 number of registered child places is 20.6. 6 Positive Reviews ÷ 20.6 = 0.291
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Day Nursery does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
