I cannot rave about Silks Farm enough; we decided on Silks for our son because of the glowing reviews we'd been told by friends who had sent their children there so knew we were in safe hands but since sending our LO there, we could not be happier with how he's getting on and being cared for.

The

first few settles and weeks were a little tricky, as to be expected from sending a LO below one year to be with people he doesn't know for eight hours a day, two days a week, not to mention all of the illnesses flying about - again, to be expected. However, the Robin's team put us totally at ease with our LO's health and wellbeing at the forefront of everything they did and the decisions they made.

Over a month on, our son now LOVES going to nursery and has come on leaps & bounds, growing in confidence week on week. To be stopped by one of the team at pick up, to be told how proud I should be of him and how well he's getting on - I was truly touched.

Everything is great about the care given to the children, the activities, food, outdoor space and play opportunities. The staff are lovely and attentive and my little one is always excited and keen to start the day there. The only complaint I have is that you no longer offer half day or shorter day
options. Obviously, for working parents who may be on slightly non standard schedules, this can make things very expensive and result in paying for a lot of unused hours. A bit more flexibility in this regard would be so helpful to many parents. Thanks for doing a great job and providing a lovely setting for our babies!
Reply from Charlie G, Nursery Support Team at Silks Farm Day Nursery and PreschoolThank you for your review of Silks Farm Day Nursery and Preschool. We're so pleased to hear that your child is always excited to attend! Our nursery team are incredibly kind, welcoming and supportive. They take the time to get to know each child individually so that they can provide engaging activities tailored to their interests and stage of development. Thank you for your feedback regarding half day sessions. Our current session structure is designed to ensure consistency for children and to maintain staffing ratios and quality of provision throughout the day.

My daughter absolutely loved being in the pre school setting. The children all seem so happy and content which is lovely to see at pick up. We love seeing Maggie in her setting it really makes a difference seeing where she is spending her days. The only think I'd like to see more of is updates such
as what she has eaten throughout the day. We love Maggie brings home her art work and are so pleased with the level of learning she's is receiving

My child has been attending Silks Farm since she was 16 months old and is now 2, and we couldn't be happier with our experience. The staff are absolutely incredible-their love, care, and support really show in how happy and excited my little one is to go in each day. She knows all the team by name,
and her development continues to amaze us week after week. We love hearing her talk about her day when we pick her up.
The team are always approachable, supportive, and efficient when answering any queries, and they genuinely go above and beyond to help wherever they can. I really appreciate the attention to detail they give to my child's development. The children are always happy, smiling, and welcoming at pick-up, which speaks volumes about the atmosphere. I also love how much time they spend outdoors and the variety of meals they provide. Overall, Silks Farm has a truly amazing, nurturing environment, and I would highly recommend it.

Silks Farm is a fantastic nursery, in a lovely setting with fantastic, caring and compassionate staff. My little boy has thrived here and loves all of his teachers. The outside space is fab too. I couldn't have asked for a better nursery experience. We moved out of the area recently, and it was a very
sad day when we said our Goodbyes! Thank you for everything, Silks Farm team!

The teams that have looked after my daughters have been amazing, so helpful and caring. I would easily give them five stars. Both my daughters have enjoyed their time there and have really benefitted developmentally. The location of the nursery is great, out in the countryside and with access to nature.
The administration, however, and overall nursery policies are sadly what let it down. I have struggled to get places for my daughters on days other than Monday and Friday, and that’s most likely because you are charged the full fee for bank holidays - even though the nursery isn’t even open. This is instead of spreading the cost equally across all attendees. I have also had to contact the nursery on a couple of occasions to sort out miscalculated invoices and settling-in plans. At times, it feels like the parents are asked to be flexible (eg when there are unexpected staff shortages), but this flexibility is not returned. Overall, I would still recommend it, but things could be improved.

My daughter has been going to nursery since she was 9nine months old - she will be three in August.
The care she receives not just from her key worker, but all members of the team is impeccable.
They go out on little walks to the forest school; they do lots of activities, singing, dancing and teaching
sign language.
All children are well looked after, and I feel my daughter is safe in the environment.

Great nursery. We relocated to the local area and our son was welcomed by everyone very warmly. Made the transition as a 3 year old, very smoothly. He gets to be outside a lot, has learnt a lot and we get updated on his progress every day. Only this morning at breakfast did he say (unprompted) ‘I love
my nursery’.
The staff are fun but fair and firm. Very happy with their care.

Our daughter started at Silks Farm just over a year ago when she was 6 months old, and has thrived ever since, thanks to the amazing staff who work so hard to support her. She is such a happy and confident little girl, and her key workers have all been so patient and kind as she has grown and developed
from a baby to a toddler! We love how spacious the nursery is, how many activities the kids have available to them, the relaxed yet professional attitude of the management and staff. They are continuously improving the environment for the kids, have a great outdoor space, and the forest school is such an asset. We would highly recommend the nursery to any new parents looking for a warm and inviting setting for their baby or young child, that is also exceptionally good value for money in the area. Oh and the meals they have on offer are fantastic - really diverse and nutritious - and have hugely helped our daughter to become a real foodie!

Our daughter joined the nursery at the age of 2.5 mid-pandemic and had a hard time settling in. Due to me being pregnant and wanting to avoid contracting Covid or childhood illnesses, we kept our daughter home every time there was an infection notice from the nursery. This means that she didn't settle
in properly until I have given birth and could send her in without being afraid of the repercussions. However, she has fully blossomed in the nursery once she joined the Rabbit's room and got her key worker. Now she is a happy and confident lady that loves going to Silks Farm and spending time with her key worker and her friends. No more tantrums at the door, and even more so, whenever she is forced to miss a session, our daughter gets upset and cannot wait to go back again.
To sum up, despite our bumpy start, our overall experience with Silks Farm has been positive. We will miss all the lovely staff members and especially her key worker when our daughter leaves for her big school adventure.

Current Review Score: 8.6 (8.616)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.6 (8.616) out of 10 for Silks Farm Day Nursery and Preschool is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 6 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.8 out of 5 from 6 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Day Nursery is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.775 for Silks Farm Day Nursery and Preschool is calculated as follows: ( (59 Excellents x 5) + (8 Goods x 4) + (4 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 71 Ratings = 4.775
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 3.841 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Silks Farm Day Nursery and Preschool is based on 6 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 = 3.55
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the number of registered child places in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Day Nursery registered for a maximum of 50 child places has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 103 number of registered child places is 20.6. 6 Positive Reviews ÷ 20.6 = 0.291
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Day Nursery does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
