Young Sussex Nursery (Brighton) is an OFSTED Outstanding nursery (June 2022) with an experienced and qualified staff team who put the children’s happiness, well-being and safety first.

The children learn and have fun in a stimulating, friendly and loving environment benefiting from a wide choice of resources and activities such as music groups, yoga and cookery classes.

Being a large converted family house, the nursery has a homely feel with large interconnecting rooms and two spacious outdoor play areas.

The nursery offers flexible childcare with half-day, school day and full-day options. Session swaps and the option to book extra sessions add further flexibility. Care is available term-time or full-time.

Free Early Learning Funding is available for 3 and 4-year-olds (15 hours universal/30 hours if eligible) as well as eligible 2-year-olds (15 hours).

Young Sussex received the 2018 and 2020 Award: Top 20 Nursery Group Award for ‘Most Recommended Small Nursery Groups' in the UK.

My daughter started Young Sussex at 10 months (she’s now 4.5 yrs) and my son at 6 months, they both love the nursery and I cannot praise them enough. They are accommodating, friendly and the environment is home from home making my return to work so much easier. They’ve had a great start to their education
and if it wasn’t for starting school then we wouldn’t be leaving!

Our daughter has been at Young Sussex at Dyke Road for the last four years and we couldn’t be happier. All the team in Cubs, Tigers and Lions have been absolutely fantastic and help her during all the stages of her development. We have always felt happy to leave her there and she has always really enjoyed
her time there with all the friends she has made there. We definitely made the right decision 4 years ago.

I recently made the tough decision to move my son's nursery. We are fortunate to live in Brighton where there is no shortage of options but with options, comes the challenge to find the right place.
Knowing that this nursery will likely see him through to his school days, I feel the weight of responsibility.
I was immediately impressed with Young Sussex (from carers to the office team) and after a thorough tour, decided this would be his nursery for the foreseeable.
He joined a month ago and already has come on leaps and bounds with his speech. His key person is always there with a smile to welcome him in (as are all of the wonderful ladies that work at Young Sussex) and I can honestly say that, even though he hasn't been at the nursery for long, I would recommend to anyone. They are professional, fun, kind, caring and attentive. All the qualities you want from someone who is looking after your precious one while you go off to earn a crust!
Thank you Young Sussex, we look forward to the future!

My third child is at Young Sussex and it’s still a fantastic nursery. My daughter is very happy and settled in quickly. Her keyworker is absolutely lovely and my little girl talks about her even on non-nursery days.
My other two children, who are now 8 and 6 have lovely memories of Young Sussex and
love dropping their sister off in the morning.

We are so pleased we chose Young Sussex for our daughter. We really appreciate the handovers each day, it helps us to feel more connected.
We also appreciate the regular photos on Tapestry, we enjoy looking through these and seeing our daughter's achievements and what she's been doing each day.

have developed a positive relationship with our daughter's key worker too which has been so important to us.

My son's key worker is amazing as is the nursery. When he started last year, he'd never been away from me before, the nursery made sure he had plenty of settling in sessions and kept me updated throughout the day. Over a year later, we've both made friends at the nursery. He's learning every day whilst
enjoying all the unique activities/rooms the nursery offers and I leave him each day knowing he's in the best hands.

My daughter has been at Young Sussex since she was 10 months old and always loved coming to nursery. The staff are always helpful and knowledgeable and have helped my daughter's development from baby through to toddler. She has always struggled with food and the staff have been so patient and encouraging

Our daughter adores both the nursery and the girls who take care of her. She has also formed strong relationships with other children which I believe is from the nursery helping her to be confident and outgoing.
The nursery is the only place also where she is guaranteed to eat properly which we are
extremely thankful for.
All in all, we are very happy to have chosen Young Sussex for her to grow in.

My daughter joined the nursery when she was 1 and attended for over 2.5 years. Young Sussex Brighton provides a very professional childcare and yet all the staff are very friendly and approachable. I very much appreciated regular daily updates, an online journal where we could see what she was up to
as well as the parents evenings. She has learned a lot throughout the time she's spent with her key persons, her friends and all the nursery staff. She felt very comfortable there and we were all sad when she had to leave the nursery. The long opening hours are also a plus for working parents.

My youngest child left Young Sussex Dyke Road in August 2018 and we were both sad to say goodbye. She connected so fantastically with the teachers and they had so much love for her. Even when I dropped her off screaming, I knew she'd be showered with attention and comfort and would settle quickly. This
is the first time in 6 years I haven't had a child in YS or waiting to go to YS and I feel like a part of me is missing! We absolutely love the nursery and could not recommend it more.

We have been very pleased with Young Sussex nurseries. All the staff are lovely and it has been excellent preparation for my daughter starting school. We love that you can swap days around and attend extra sessions. The outdoor play area is my children’s favourite thing about the nursery.

Our little boy went to Young Sussex for a year and absolutely loved it! Everyone was so friendly and reassuring that I was never worried about leaving him. He would come home full of new songs, words and chatting about all the friends he had made. I would definitely recommend this nursery, the only

My daughter spent over 1.5 years at Young Sussex Dyke Road and was very happy there. She had great key workers who looked out for her and always gave me regular updates on how she was getting on, both when picking her up each day as well as through the Tapestry online journal. I really valued having
the 7 am start option which I used a lot and also liked having the ability to do swap days which allowed me to be more flexible when needed.

Our son has been at Young Sussex from the age of 5 - 20 months. He has been so well looked after and really enjoyed his time there - it's been great to see pictures and videos of him playing. Job Title: Nursery Manager Joined: 2007

After leaving school, I studied Health & Social Care, knowing that I wanted a career helping people. This included a placement in a nursery, which I loved, and I’ve not looked back since!


For ten years, I worked my way up in a local nursery to be their Deputy Manager. I was also working with children aged 3-16 in a Women’s Refuge Project (now RISE). In 2007, I joined Young Sussex as Deputy Manager and was promoted to Nursery Manager in early 2012.


As a manager, I enjoy being on the frontline and having that initial and lasting contact with parents. As a parent of two children who also attended Young Sussex, I feel I can relate to parents starting at the nursery, empathise with their situation and help them throughout their child’s time at nursery.
