Young Sussex Nursery (Brighton) is an OFSTED Outstanding nursery (June 2022) with an experienced and qualified staff team who put the children’s happiness, well-being and safety first.

The children learn and have fun in a stimulating, friendly and loving environment benefiting from a wide choice of resources and activities such as music groups, yoga and cookery classes.

Being a large converted family house, the nursery has a homely feel with large interconnecting rooms and two spacious outdoor play areas.

The nursery offers flexible childcare with half-day, school day and full-day options. Session swaps and the option to book extra sessions add further flexibility. Care is available term-time or full-time.

Free Early Learning Funding is available for 3 and 4-year-olds (15 hours universal/30 hours if eligible) as well as eligible 2-year-olds (15 hours).

Young Sussex received the 2018 and 2020 Award: Top 20 Nursery Group Award for ‘Most Recommended Small Nursery Groups' in the UK.

Young Sussex is a wonderful nursery. They took very good care of my child, which helped to develop her in many ways! The session timing helped me to get childcare that fit my schedule. Everyone was caring and sweet, so my daughter became very attached to everyone there. I would recommend this nursery
without hesitation.

My daughter has been going to Young Sussex Nursery Brighton for the last 3 months. Being my first child, I wasn't sure what to expect, but my experience and my daughter's experience has been nothing but positive. All the staff are lovely, and I am always greeted with a big smile at pick up time. Would

Our daughter has been attending for a couple of months now and she seems to really love it! She stomps in every morning, barely looks back at me (I'm lucky if I get a wave), and seems to have a fantastic time. She settled in very quickly and seems to enjoy it. I've been particularly impressed with the
team's effort at trying to work out her cloth nappies. We had a few weeks of a lot of leaks until I changed the type of cloth nappy I send her in, and the team were so patient with us. They must have had lots of extra work with her, changing her trousers multiple times a day, but they didn't complain and were happy to keep trying. I've also been impressed with the management/admin side of things, they are all very organised and efficient.

My son has been at Young Sussex Nursery for five weeks and he loves it. The staff all seem really attentive and make time at the end of the day to really chat to you about his day. We get regular updates throughout the day on the app and I'm always impressed with the activities they get up to, everything
from crafts to cookery. We are so glad that we chose Young Sussex Nursery.

After eight years and two children at Young Sussex, I could not recommend Young Sussex highly enough. My girls flourished there, and I am sad we are now at the end of an era. The staff have been lovely over the years and provided great support during the pandemic when my child needed a place to be while
we worked for the NHS.

Our daughter started with Young Sussex just before her first birthday and continued until starting school in September 2022.
The whole time we have had a positive and happy experience, even though the uncertainty of the pandemic. The staff were always great, and our daughter was always happy to go
in and had a great time, and we always felt she was in a safe, secure environment.
I would recommend Young Sussex to anyone and am planning to send my son there once I return to work.

Young Sussex has such an amazing team of staff that were incredibly caring and supportive to us as a family and our little boy. Always greeted with big smiles. Our son was clearly content in Tiger Cubs - and with his ongoing health issues to navigate, we felt very supported by the team, which brought
great comfort to me as Mum, knowing he was in safe hands. The range of activities that they would put on for the children was so refreshing, especially as they would cover current social events and help the kids learn more about the environment they lived in, being inclusive of all walks of life.
We were very sad to leave (due to moving) but were very happy in the knowledge that our son had one of the best starts in life in the nursery with the help of Young Sussex. I could not recommend them enough - they are fantastic!

Where do I start... no words are enough. I will forever be grateful for all that Young Sussex has supported our family with over the last three years, from the pandemic through to open heart surgery!
Not to mention the ongoing daily support with his stammer, food allergies and sore skin.
Despite
all of the above, my son is absolutely thriving, full of confidence and happiness. I have no doubt that he has had the best start to school life, and his future success has been shaped by his experiences during these early years at Young Sussex.

Our daughter absolutely loves Young Sussex, and so do we!
We honestly couldn’t recommend them enough!
From start to end, they’ve supported us as a family and our daughter through the entire process.
She will truly miss all the staff and going to Young Sussex.
It’s been our extended family for
the last 18 months.
The care and education provided are top-notch; having a child five years older, I wish I’d known about Young Sussex before. We will be forever grateful to the staff at Young Sussex for our memories, but she is so ready to start her next adventure. We hope that Young Sussex continues to thrive for a very long time.

My daughter loved attending Young Sussex Nursery. She would always walk in happy, and she created a very strong bond will all the team. Every day she would come home with new skills, and I could see the positive impact the nursery activities had on her development. Her needs and interest were always
taken into account, and the relationship with her key worker was amazing. Would highly recommend his nursery to any of my relatives and friend. You are doing an amazing job, and I am glad my child could benefit from it.
Also, she always enjoyed the food. They have a great outdoor space and always do the most incredible project to keep the little minds busy.

Our son loved his time at Young Sussex. He made brilliant friends and learned so much about who he is and the world around him. We have been incredibly grateful to his key workers and room leaders (Bears and Tigers), who have always encouraged his interests, supported his development and celebrated

Our son went to Young Sussex and joined the Tiger Cubs before moving up to Lion Cubs at 4-years-old.
The staff, throughout both age groups, were exceptionally nice and welcoming, and we felt so comfortable that they were taking good care of our little one.
They play with them and always seem to be
doing different activities with a nice variety, and our son always came home happy and excited by what he had done/drawn/made that day.
I would highly recommend Young Sussex.

From the moment we stepped inside Young Sussex, my partner and I had great vibes about the place - and it has more than lived up to our expectations. Our daughter has attended for over a year and has been so happy here. The staff are so caring and come up with such interesting, stimulating activities
for the children. I love seeing what our daughter gets up to. The rooms are wonderful environments for the children and the back garden is a lovely place to explore: climbing frame, plants and flowers, and lots of room. It's also an incredibly well-run nursery (very quick responses to emails), with lots of flexibility in terms of times/sessions, which makes such a huge difference. The only reason we are leaving is because we are moving house: I'm sad we can't take Young Sussex with us. Thank you to all the staff for making my daughter's time here so special.

My daughter has been at Young Sussex Brighton for a year. She has loved every second of it. She has really developed and learnt a lot. She has formed so many close friendships there and has bonded well with the staff. She loves going to nursery and always finishes excited with stories to tell and songs
to sing. The staff are very caring and friendly and genuinely enjoy their jobs. They really have made such a positive impact and she talks about them all the time and I'm very grateful for her time there. I want to thank the key workers and all the staff working there. My daughter will miss you all and her classmates very much.

My daughter absolutely loves going to nursery at Young Sussex Brighton. She started when she was 11 months old and my husband and I were worried about how she would settle in. She quickly formed a relationship with her key worker who she absolutely loves, and it only took a couple of days for her to
settle in.
She’s now 20 months old and trots happily up the little ramp to the Bear Cubs door, knocking and calling out her key workers name and lots of her little friends’ names. She has gained so much confidence and picked up skills at nursery that we haven’t specifically taught her at home.
Her language skills have developed really well, and so have her social skills (this was a worry for us as the majority of her life has been spent in lockdown).
The Bear Cubs team is great and they do lots of fun activities that keep the children engaged. It’s lovely to see photos and read updates on the app.
We are so sad to be moving to another nursery closer to home as she will really miss it!

I can’t recommend Young Sussex highly enough. Both of my children are very happy, they look forward to coming into nursery and are very secure here. The activities that the staff do are varied and enriching, lots of messy and interesting activities. They ensure that the children go outside often. I
find all members of staff extremely professional, helpful and caring, often going above and beyond to meet everyone’s needs.

I found it to be adequate and safe. Only after moving, have we come to realise how basic it is and expensive. My son never did artwork that came home, no external activities, that Young Sussex likes to promote, exist or happened for him either, no learning. In his new setting, I now get artwork coming
home, they do “star school” to prepare the children for school, teach letters etc and give great updates. I never got this at Young Sussex. Cost - well my son's new setting is less than half the cost of Young Sussex and another I looked at just £2.50 a day when funded. His new setting also provides meals included in the price and Young Sussex don’t (they do snacks). Young Sussex provides an online calculator to explain what the cost will be, once you get the Early Years funding. It’s not as simple as free hours/days. I understand Young Sussex explain additional fees are applicable for snacks etc. This isn’t the case everywhere so look around. I've reduced from approximately £400 per month to £150 and get more for my money.

Our son has been attending Yound Sussex Nursery (Brighton) since he was one years old and we couldn't recommend it enough. All the staff are caring and the nursery has a home from home feel. Our son has allergies and they always include him in the baking/food bits by getting special ingredients so he
can join in. They have lots of outdoor play time which we love and ensure they get fresh air in all weather's. A lovely, happy and friendly nursery. Ten out of ten.

Job Title: Nursery Manager Joined: 2007

After leaving school, I studied Health & Social Care, knowing that I wanted a career helping people. This included a placement in a nursery, which I loved, and I’ve not looked back since!


For ten years, I worked my way up in a local nursery to be their Deputy Manager. I was also working with children aged 3-16 in a Women’s Refuge Project (now RISE). In 2007, I joined Young Sussex as Deputy Manager and was promoted to Nursery Manager in early 2012.


As a manager, I enjoy being on the frontline and having that initial and lasting contact with parents. As a parent of two children who also attended Young Sussex, I feel I can relate to parents starting at the nursery, empathise with their situation and help them throughout their child’s time at nursery.
