The staff, throughout both age groups, were exceptionally nice and welcoming, and we felt so comfortable that they were taking good care of our little one.
They play with them and always seem to be doing different activities with a nice variety, and our son always came home happy and excited by what he had done/drawn/made that day.
I would highly recommend Young Sussex.
The staff has always been helpful to us. Always smiling. My child has always wanted to go to nursery. She left satisfied and happy. I hope that every child that comes to you will be as happy as mine.

From the moment we stepped inside Young Sussex, my partner and I had great vibes about the place - and it has more than lived up to our expectations. Our daughter has attended for over a year and has been so happy here. The staff are so caring and come up with such interesting, stimulating activities for the children. I love seeing what our daughter gets up to. The rooms are wonderful environments for the children and the back garden is a lovely place to explore: climbing frame, plants and flowers, and lots of room. It's also an incredibly well-run nursery (very quick responses to emails), with lots of flexibility in terms of times/sessions, which makes such a huge difference. The only reason we are leaving is because we are moving house: I'm sad we can't take Young Sussex with us. Thank you to all the staff for making my daughter's time here so special.
My daughter absolutely loves going to nursery at Young Sussex Brighton. She started when she was 11 months old and my husband and I were worried about how she would settle in. She quickly formed a relationship with her key worker who she absolutely loves, and it only took a couple of days for her...
She’s now 20 months old and trots happily up the little ramp to the Bear Cubs door, knocking and calling out her key workers name and lots of her little friends’ names. She has gained so much confidence and picked up skills at nursery that we haven’t specifically taught her at home.
Her language skills have developed really well, and so have her social skills (this was a worry for us as the majority of her life has been spent in lockdown).
The Bear Cubs team is great and they do lots of fun activities that keep the children engaged. It’s lovely to see photos and read updates on the app.
We are so sad to be moving to another nursery closer to home as she will really miss it!
I can’t recommend Young Sussex highly enough. Both of my children are very happy, they look forward to coming into nursery and are very secure here. I can’t recommend Young Sussex highly enough. Both of my children are very happy, they look forward to coming into nursery and are very secure here. The activities that the staff do are varied and enriching, lots of messy and interesting activities. They ensure that the children go outside often. I find all members of staff extremely professional, helpful and caring, often going above and beyond to meet everyone’s needs.

I found it to be adequate and safe. Only after moving, have we come to realise how basic it is and expensive. My son never did artwork that came home, no external activities, that Young Sussex likes to promote, exist or happened for him either, no learning. In his new setting, I now get artwork coming home, they do “star school” to prepare the children for school, teach letters etc and give great updates. I never got this at Young Sussex. Cost - well my son's new setting is less than half the cost of Young Sussex and another I looked at just £2.50 a day when funded. His new setting also provides meals included in the price and Young Sussex don’t (they do snacks). Young Sussex provides an online calculator to explain what the cost will be, once you get the Early Years funding. It’s not as simple as free hours/days. I understand Young Sussex explain additional fees are applicable for snacks etc. This isn’t the case everywhere so look around. I've reduced from approximately £400 per month to £150 and get more for my money.

I’m sorry that you were not happy with your experience at Young Sussex. Had you raised any concerns with us at the time, we could have helped to resolve them. In response:
Logistically, not every special event will be available to every child. That said, COVID has disrupted our normal routines over the past year and many or our regular visitors are on hold.We successfully support the development of all children. Age-appropriate learning is constant if not always explicit.
The pre-school activities you describe, are very much in line with what your son would've experienced in our pre-school room, had he stayed.
Eary Years funding is complex and each nursery has its own funding/pricing structure. Funded-only sessions at Young Sussex are 100% free with all snacks, nappies and activities included. Hot lunches are offered as an optional extra, at cost. Funding is not available for every hour of every session and the unfunded balance is chargeable.
I am pleased that you have found a setting that can better meet your needs.

Our son has allergies and they always include him in the baking/food bits by getting special ingredients so he can join in. They have lots of outdoor play time which we love and ensure they get fresh air in all weather's. A lovely, happy and friendly nursery. Ten out of ten.
Our son is now three years old and has been going to Young Sussex Nursery (Brighton) since he turned one. He absolutely loves going here and has done since the first couple of weeks. He comes home every day with tales of what he has done and who he has seen. The professionalism of everyone there is...
A big thank you to all the staff at Young Sussex Nursery (Brighton), you have made our son very happy!
My daughter started here in October at the age of 3, never before having attended a nursery, so I was awaiting the tears and screams of not wanting to go, however, every day she entered with a huge smile and comes home with an even bigger one on her face and tells me about the amazing time she has...
All the staff I have met have been wonderfully kind, happy and helpful, and the nursery is beautiful, my only disappointment is that I didn’t send my daughter sooner.

Our two-year-old adored her time at Young Sussex. She settled very quickly, and I think this was a testament to the experienced, attentive and caring staff there, to whom she quickly formed an attachment. We were always updated on what she had done each day and we could tell that she had nearly always found it stimulating and had fun. The garden facilities were great and they spent a decent amount of time out there each day, which we were pleased about. The office staff cannot be faulted on efficiency, helpfulness or friendliness. I really wouldn‘t hesitate to recommend Young Sussex; it’s a lovely place!

We could not be happier with the care and support given to our twins from when they started at Young Sussex on Dyke Road, at nine months to leaving at three years old. We were always updated with milestones and progress or any issues. Both our daughters loved their key workers and all the other staff at Young Sussex. We were often surprised by all the wonderful things that they had learnt and they left being two very independent and sociable three-year-olds. Our girls were at the nursery throughout lockdown and we were always very impressed with the measures taken by the nursery to keep everyone safe, but also to ensure that the nursery remained an inviting and stimulating place for all the children there. We were very sad to leave.

As the father of two boys lucky to have gone to Young Sussex, I can not praise the manager and her team highly enough. Their warmth, humour and empathy is evident in every interaction and whist it is clearly a well run and efficient operation it is equally clear that they put the well being of the children at the centre of everything they do and every decision they make. And their flexibility around scheduling sets them even further apart from their competitors. I know they're a business but all I saw was a friendly, supportive and nurturing environment and a lot of very happy children.
We are delighted with the care Young Sussex have given our daughter over the last three years. She has loved being there and has built up incredibly strong bonds with both children and her “teachers”. In each age group, she’s had the run of an entire floor of the house and has benefitted from being...
The ability to ‘bank’ days has been hugely helpful, and the flexibility around the 7am-7pm earlies/lates has been a godsend when needed.
With the Covid lockdown, we were particularly impressed that, unlike many nurseries, Young Sussex stopped charging fees immediately, and have been very accommodating of our indecisiveness around when to return our daughter to nursery.
We couldn’t be happier that we chose to send her to Young Sussex. They have given her a wonderful introduction to her educational career, and we would recommend it 100%.

Due to the lockdown, we were rather worried that he had not been socialising at all so he would struggle to settle in when starting nursery. The staff at Young Sussex have been absolutely incredible! We cannot believe how happy he is to attend each morning. He is loving all of the experiences on offer, and we really feel that the staff know his routine and are willing to do anything to accommodate his needs. The posts on the app and the daily note about what he has been doing are very much appreciated.
We have sent all our children to Young Sussex, Dyke Road and are very happy. The staff are very professional and experienced. They are warm and friendly and always take the time to chat and regularly update the parent app. The children do an array of activities and love the visiting classes - yoga...
Management at Dyke Road are excellent. They are quick to respond and very accommodating when able. The sessional swaps have been brilliant, especially when factoring in costings and flexibility.
We would definitely recommend.
The kids always seem to have had a wonderful day when I pick them up! I like that they come home dirty as it shows that they have been creative and fully gotten involved in the activities.

The helped our son with his delayed speech; so we can’t thank the nursery enough for doing that!
Also extremely accommodating when swapping days or extending their drop off or pick up.
My daughter has settled very quickly into the nursery and seems to be enjoying her time there, learning new things and playing with new toys.

After leaving school, I studied Health & Social Care, knowing that I wanted a career helping people. This included a placement in a nursery, which I loved, and I’ve not looked back since!
For ten years, I worked my way up in a local nursery to be their Deputy Manager. I was also working with children aged 3-16 in a Women’s Refuge Project (now RISE). In 2007, I joined Young Sussex as Deputy Manager and was promoted to Nursery Manager in early 2012.
As a manager, I enjoy being on the frontline and having that initial and lasting contact with parents. As a parent of two children who also attended Young Sussex, I feel I can relate to parents starting at the nursery, empathise with their situation and help them throughout their child’s time at nursery.
