Young Sussex Nursery (Brighton) is an OFSTED Outstanding nursery (June 2022) with an experienced and qualified staff team who put the children’s happiness, well-being and safety first.

The children learn and have fun in a stimulating, friendly and loving environment benefiting from a wide choice of resources and activities such as music groups, yoga and cookery classes.

Being a large converted family house, the nursery has a homely feel with large interconnecting rooms and two spacious outdoor play areas.

The nursery offers flexible childcare with half-day, school day and full-day options. Session swaps and the option to book extra sessions add further flexibility. Care is available term-time or full-time.

Free Early Learning Funding is available for 3 and 4-year-olds (15 hours universal/30 hours if eligible) as well as eligible 2-year-olds (15 hours).

Young Sussex received the 2018 and 2020 Award: Top 20 Nursery Group Award for ‘Most Recommended Small Nursery Groups' in the UK.

This is a lovely nursery. It's big, but feels smaller because the children are often in smaller groups. The facilities are great, really spacious, and my daughter has settled in well. The staff are lovely too!

My child has attended Young Sussex since he was 6 months old and is due to leave next year when he starts school - which will be very sad. I have nothing but praise for the nursery and staff who I have found to be friendly and helpful. My son has made lots of friends and has developed a great deal due
to his time at the nursery.

We couldn't be happier with Young Sussex. Our two children attend and we feel their care and development at Young Sussex is second to none. They are always happy to attend and have such close bonds with the teachers. As parents, we feel happy leaving them there for the day knowing that not only are
all their needs being met but they are being nurtured and genuinely cared for by the fantastic staff and management.

We have had a wonderful experience with Young Sussex so far. Our daughter settled in really well and she seems to enjoy herself very much, eats well, is well cared for and takes part in lots of activities. She adores the staff who are warm and welcoming. The organisation and management is excellent
and they've been very helpful and accommodating to our needs.

Reception is always lovely and greets you with a smile.


My son goes to the Lion Cubs and the staff up there are just brilliant. Always happy to stop and chat and update on the day. Everyone else we bump into along the way is always bubbly.

After a bad experience with a different nursery, we opted to change to this one. FANTASTIC!!!! My child is very happy so it was definitely the best decision I have made. He is learning more by the day and looks forward to going to nursery.

Great staff, a great nursery in general. All the kids love it, ours loved it too. Sad to be leaving, but moving away so no option to stay. We'd been going there for 2.5 years and not a bad word to say about Young Sussex.

We had an overall very good experience with Young Sussex Nursery, Dyke Road. The staff were attentive, caring and engaged with our daughter. Great communication from management and a brilliant range of activities for the kids including themed days and external visitors.

Since we chose Young Sussex, Dyke Road as the nursery for our daughter, the experience we have had has been of the highest standard. She settled into the environment extremely easily and all of the staff made her (and us) feel welcome.


The range of activities and education of the children was always

first class, they were professional, friendly and she always enjoyed going there. The nursery provided regular feedback on how she was developing and encouraged her to learn new skills and respect other children. The nursery has set her up for the transition from nursery to school life, which she has also embraced.


We would highly recommend Young Sussex Nursery, a well run, highly effective and excellent nursery.

I highly recommend this nursery. Both my children (now fourteen months and three years) started here at ten months old and have thoroughly enjoyed the experience even when I have had to put them in for long hours from 7am to 7pm!
The nursery is a fun place with lots going on to keep them entertained
and distracted and the quality of staff and care is excellent. My children had a real bond with key workers and the other nursery staff so they were always keen to attend.
There is plenty of space inside and out and lots of messy play. The nursery are very flexible which was great as I am a contractor so I would often have to alter sessions. Also, they are one of the few if not only nurseries that I could find that did long hours for when I was working away or in London.

Young Sussex is a great nursery and the staff are friendly, caring and knowledgeable.
My daughter started at six months and stayed all the way through to the last day. Now at 'big girl school' she still remembers and talks about the great times she had at Young Sussex.
Spacious and well equipped with
an outside area and a most loved muddy kitchen.
Loads of activities, firemen visits, vet visits, outdoor days ... can't fail.
Would definitely recommend it.

My son attended Young Sussex on Dyke Road for 3 years.
The whole team at Young Sussex are not only caring, but we found that our son has had a fantastic start to his education, learning all the basics, required to set him up for Primary School.
Nothing was ever an issue with the management with having
to swap days around to accommodate holidays etc and I was kept updated regularly with his development.
My son loved his time at this nursery, and we would recommend it to anyone.

I cannot recommend this nursery highly enough. My son attended from eleven months - four years and left when it was time to start school. During this time, there was never a single occasion where I felt concerned about anything. Every member of the care staff was exceptionally good at their jobs and
were always cheerful and positive and enthusiastic about their work. The nursery is also very well managed and communication with parents is very good. My son has also been very well prepared for the learning and skills needed for school. The nursery has helped him to develop confidence and social skills and he just had a really happy time there. I am grateful to the nursery for giving him valuable experience.

Lovely, enthusiastic staff and lots of varied activities to keep the kids engaged. A kind, nurturing environment - one happy child! Young Sussex is a great nursery and my daughter thoroughly enjoyed her three years there. Not only did she make lots of friends and positive memories, all the important
life skills she learnt are now helping her make the transition into her first year at school and the big, wide world in general.
Additionally, as a freelancer, the management team were very supportive and flexible to our ever-changing requirements which was incredibly helpful.
In a nutshell :
Is it a fun, friendly place for little children? Yes
Do I miss the output from baking sessions? Yes (mostly, bar the pumpkin pies)
Would I recommend it? Absolutely.

Both my children attended Young Sussex from nine months old, to when they were four years old and always skipped in each day with happy faces. The staff are all very caring and really get to know each child as individuals. The nursery itself offers a lot for the children including yoga, music lessons,
cooking and forest school, all included in the price. It is a safe, clean environment and on the rare occasion when a problem arose the staff dealt with it quickly and professionally. Now that my children have left my lasting impression of the nursery is one of the excellent care, attention and professionalism the whole staff gave towards my children. I have no reservations in recommending this nursery.

My daughter has been with the nursery for 9 months. She is very happy and has settled in really well. The Senior Nursery Practitioner always gives me honest feedback about how she is getting on. My daughter's Grandpa is battling cancer so I've been worried about her emotional well-being, however
the nursery fully supported this news and I've felt secure that my daughter has a safe, happy place to come to. She seems to get on well with all the children and is learning quickly.

When my daughter started with tasters the staff were very good and she was very happy. When she started school she has been very happy to come in and I feel very at ease to leave her. I am very happy with the staff and the nursery.

Job Title: Nursery Manager Joined: 2007

After leaving school, I studied Health & Social Care, knowing that I wanted a career helping people. This included a placement in a nursery, which I loved, and I’ve not looked back since!


For ten years, I worked my way up in a local nursery to be their Deputy Manager. I was also working with children aged 3-16 in a Women’s Refuge Project (now RISE). In 2007, I joined Young Sussex as Deputy Manager and was promoted to Nursery Manager in early 2012.


As a manager, I enjoy being on the frontline and having that initial and lasting contact with parents. As a parent of two children who also attended Young Sussex, I feel I can relate to parents starting at the nursery, empathise with their situation and help them throughout their child’s time at nursery.
