Bright Horizons Longfield Day Nursery and Preschool provides high-quality care and education for children aged 3 months to 5 years.

Never forgetting that the nursery is ‘for the children’ it is important that the children are consulted and given hands-on involvement on a day-to-day basis. They understand that a successful nursery is built on the experience of motivated, happy staff and realise the importance of their development.

The outdoor space has been developed around the children’s learning and physical exercise. This garden includes climbing frames, a dedicated baby space, forest school area and a cycling track.

Their unique Healthy Hearts and Minds activities provide inspirational and engaging learning experiences using the innovative and well established Boogie Mites and myHappymind programmes.

An enriching Ready for School programme gives every child the opportunity to gain knowledge and confidence to thrive in school and beyond.

The nursery was rated 'Good' by Ofsted in March 2019.

Generally very good. The transition from 'Toddler Room' to 'Nursery Room' was a bit bumpy: more info on the changes could have been helpful, such as the level of detail being provided on my child's day reducing and invested emphasis on independence (to help parent support at home). My son's key worker
changed 3 times in the space of a few months, which I think really affected him settling in. He is happy and settled now that we have had the same (very lovely) member of staff. No information was given to me when his worker changed: it was only when I asked, that I was informed that his old keyworker had left! This made progress with potty training harder. Generally, I think Hickory House Pre-School & Day Nursery is great and promotes a high level of learning and independence for the children.

The staff at Hickory House have been fantastic throughout my daughter's time at the nursery. Every room she has spent time in has been filled with activities and fantastic facilities along with nursery workers who really take the time to get to know your child individually. They are all very informative
and we are always given an update at the end of each day about what she has been doing and how she has been. The food they are given throughout the day is high quality and she is always very well fed! The security of the nursery is also of a high standard and we have therefore never had any concerns with regards to her safety. It gives us great piece of mind knowing that she is with staff members who are so caring and professional while we are away from her. This nursery is great value for money and my daughter's development and key skills have benefited hugely thanks to the hard work that goes into every activity each day, highly recommended!!!

My son going to the nursery made me anxious. We viewed several nurseries but felt they were either, too small, too crowded, too dark. At Hickory House, we knew immediately when we walked in this was the nursery. The rooms were spacious, light & airy, assistant to baby ratio was brilliant. We were given
tester days to observe him interact, giving us reassurance.
He is now in the toddler room. The transition from baby room to toddler room was good and well done. It was a gradual process. His key person is lovely but so are all the other staff with good interaction. They are able to handle my son's high energy levels and know that he likes music so they will play music which always gets him dancing.
Security into the building is good and gives me assurance. I couldn't have been luckier to have found an outstanding nursery like Hickory House. Which gives my son the individualistic care he deserves.

Job Title: Nursery Manager

Donna began her career in the early years sector and has grown over the years through various roles. This progression has given her the opportunity to gain extensive knowledge and understanding of the different areas within an early years setting. She has completed her NVQ Levels 2, 3, and 4 in Early Years Care and Education, along with a Level 5 qualification in Leadership and Management. Her passion for career progression drives her to support her team’s knowledge and self-development.


Donna has been with Bright Horizons since 2012. As a Nursery Manager, she believes that children are at the heart of everything the team does. By supporting and empowering the team, she helps to create enabling environments where all children can thrive—offering them opportunities to explore and engage in a wide range of play-based activities.


In addition to her professional role, Donna is a mother of three boys. Her youngest has attended the nursery setting, giving her valuable insight into nursery life from a parent’s perspective. This experience has deepened her understanding of the importance of ensuring that parents feel confident and reassured that their children are in a safe, secure environment where they can learn and grow.

Job Title: Deputy Manager Joined: 2006

Julie joined Bright Horizons in September 2006. She holds a Level 4 qualification in childcare and is a qualified Level 3 Forest School Leader. Julie has a strong passion for creating environments that spark children's curiosity, awe, and wonder. She particularly enjoys working in outdoor learning spaces and believes that these experiences are fundamental to children's development.


Julie's son attended the nursery from the age of five months, which allowed her to maintain a positive work-life balance. This personal experience has given her a deep understanding of the challenges parents face when returning to work and helps her empathise with their needs during this transition.


She recognises the vital importance of the first five years of a child’s life and values the critical role that the nursery and its staff play in supporting each child’s early development.
