Bright Horizons Longfield Day Nursery and Preschool provides high-quality care and education for children aged 3 months to 5 years.

Never forgetting that the nursery is ‘for the children’ it is important that the children are consulted and given hands-on involvement on a day-to-day basis. They understand that a successful nursery is built on the experience of motivated, happy staff and realise the importance of their development.

The outdoor space has been developed around the children’s learning and physical exercise. This garden includes climbing frames, a dedicated baby space, forest school area and a cycling track.

Their unique Healthy Hearts and Minds activities provide inspirational and engaging learning experiences using the innovative and well established Boogie Mites and myHappymind programmes.

An enriching Ready for School programme gives every child the opportunity to gain knowledge and confidence to thrive in school and beyond.

Amazing nursery, my daughter has progressed so much since attending. Great communication and relationships with all the staff members within her room. From pictures I’ve seen they do interesting activities that all children are involved and engaged in.

My daughter attended Bright Horizons Longfield for 4 years, beginning her nursery journey in the baby room and completing her journey in September 2020 when she then transitioned onto school.
With each room she transitioned to she had the best experience, from the nurturing and deeply caring staff
in the baby room, guiding her with her development to enable her to reach her milestones, to the staff in the Nursery room providing her with different play experiences and supporting her gaining her independence.
Pre School room provided her with exciting and engaging activities to support her individual interests, learning and development. I cannot thank all the staff enough within the nursery for helping to shape her into the confident little girl who was prepared and could not wait to continue her learning journey to reception class in school.
The partnerships with the staff and myself were fantastic. I highly recommend this nursery to parents.

I was very nervous about sending my first child to nursery, however, they made the experience so much easier to handle. The transition period was brilliant and gave me the opportunity to meet the people who would be looking after my daughter. The staff and facilities are brilliant, which made me feel
comfortable leaving her. The meals are amazing, she often has things that I haven't tried at home. My child is greeted each morning with big smiles and enthusiasm by the staff and leaves in the afternoon with an update on her day and a happy little girl.

Both my son and daughter have gone to the nursery the staff are so helpful and always happy to discuss any issues and concerns.

My little boy is very happy here, he gets on very well with his key worker and all the staff in his room.
They are always outside in the fresh air, which he really enjoys and they always have fun activities to do.
I would prefer there to be less paperwork for both the nursery staff and the parents
but overall I am happy with the care he receives and would recommend the nursery.

My son started at Hickory when it was independent, so we have gone through the whole process of integration into a large corporation, which, I am sad to say, has not improved my perception of the care provided.


The facilities are excellent as are a number of the staff and the outdoor section is

nice, if a bit small for the number of children.


My two biggest concerns would first be the essentially unthinking application of rules on children even having a remote chance of being ill (i.e. 48-hour exclusions due to soft stools during teething) etc. This is done alongside sometimes questionable health and safety procedures during maintenance and repair which put the children at risk of being hurt.


The second concern is the price, which has risen massively since the takeover as well as no longer covering things like nappies (I believe, my son does not use them anymore).

My son loves going to nursery and comes home telling me about all the exciting activities he does during the day. He started at Hickory House when he was nine months old and he has loved every room he has been in, he's starting school in September and I don't have to worry about him making new friends
and being confident enough to join in, as Hickory House has given him a great start.

My daughter has been attending Hickory House since she was 7 months old. She is now 18 months old and I can happily and confidently say she enjoys every minute she is there. She has developed so much and become more independent and confident.
Everyone that works at Hickory House is just amazing, so
friendly, attentive and kind. It truly deserves its outstanding grade.

The staff are professional and friendly. When I fell pregnant with our second child we had assumed we would take my son out of nursery but he loves it so much he still goes! They have been brilliant at supporting us with potty training and ensuring continuity between how it is done.

I have been a parent at the nursery since 2014, both my daughter and son went/are still attending there. After the take over by a corporation last year, I feel the atmosphere of the nursery has changed. It feels that it is more about the money than the actual care.

I struggle to answer the questions below as I don't really know what happens day to day. I always assume everything is excellent. I have got no reason to think otherwise, but I do think communication about my individual child's progress would be nice. I have said it since she started. I have had a meeting
with a key person once and had a learning journal once in 19 months. But, she is very happy and loves coming. I only wish I could afford to send her on more days.

Both my children are very happy at this nursery and especially my 3-year-old, can't wait to come in the mornings. They both eat well and get a little feedback at the end of the day about what they've been up to. I like getting the handwritten daily feedback from the baby room, it would be nice to have
the same sort of feedback from the other rooms too. Very happy with this nursery and would definitely recommend it to others. Our nursery manager is lovely and very helpful and very approachable.

Donna

Job Title: Nursery Manager

Donna began her career in the early years sector and has grown over the years through various roles. This progression has given her the opportunity to gain extensive knowledge and understanding of the different areas within an early years setting. She has completed her NVQ Levels 2, 3, and 4 in Early Years Care and Education, along with a Level 5 qualification in Leadership and Management. Her passion for career progression drives her to support her team’s knowledge and self-development.


Donna has been with Bright Horizons since 2012. As a Nursery Manager, she believes that children are at the heart of everything the team does. By supporting and empowering the team, she helps to create enabling environments where all children can thrive—offering them opportunities to explore and engage in a wide range of play-based activities.


In addition to her professional role, Donna is a mother of three boys. Her youngest has attended the nursery setting, giving her valuable insight into nursery life from a parent’s perspective. This experience has deepened her understanding of the importance of ensuring that parents feel confident and reassured that their children are in a safe, secure environment where they can learn and grow.

Job Title: Deputy Manager Joined: 2006

Julie joined Bright Horizons in September 2006. She holds a Level 4 qualification in childcare and is a qualified Level 3 Forest School Leader. Julie has a strong passion for creating environments that spark children's curiosity, awe, and wonder. She particularly enjoys working in outdoor learning spaces and believes that these experiences are fundamental to children's development.


Julie's son attended the nursery from the age of five months, which allowed her to maintain a positive work-life balance. This personal experience has given her a deep understanding of the challenges parents face when returning to work and helps her empathise with their needs during this transition.


She recognises the vital importance of the first five years of a child’s life and values the critical role that the nursery and its staff play in supporting each child’s early development.
