Our child attended Grasshoppers Day Nursery (St Albans) for two and half years and we think this had a very positive impact to his growing up. The facilities have recently been renovated with brand new learning equipment installed, while the size of outdoor space was good. We also noticed that all members of staff were knowledgeable, skilled, patient, kind and helpful. The school was really organised and this was very much proven by the way they handled Covid-19 restrictions and lockdown's. We were really happy that our child always found time at school interesting besides the very long hours, with members of staff able to fill the daily routine with plenty of activities such as role playing, yoga, music and mandarin language lessons that contributed to his learning skills.
We've been incredibly happy with Grasshoppers since our daughter has been going. The staff are warm and friendly and I feel they take very good care of her. She learns so much and I am always impressed with how much the nursery does for charity and how engaged I feel as a parent with my child's care there. I can't recommend them enough.
My daughter started Grasshoppers in December last year and after a little bit of a stop-start beginning (due to Christmas and COVID), we’re really happy with how she’s settled in. The staff are all lovely and my one complaint is that we can’t get an extra day there!
My son has had a wonderful experience settling in with the Caterpillars team at Grasshoppers Day Nursery (St Albans). The staff have made every effort to make my husband, my son and me welcome in the nursery community. The practitioners have gone above and beyond to reassure me that my son has settled into the nursery routine. From photos and stories during the pandemic, when we cannot go in the nursery and see him playing and whilst face coverings make it more difficult to recognise faces, the practitioners are always smiling and happily recognise me at pick up! I receive updates via the app and verbally every day without fail, to tell me about my son's day, what he's eaten, like a king and how he has slept. I know his future at the nursery is a bright and happy one, supported by an excellent curriculum!
Our daughter has been going to Grasshoppers since she was 10 months old, we have always been extremely happy with the care and attention that she has received. Simply could not ask for more and would recommend Grasshoppers to anyone.
The staff at Grasshoppers St Albans have been utterly fantastic in welcoming our children back to nursery after lockdown. They have taken a really positive, thoughtful and caring approach in reassuring parents and supporting the children. We feel very grateful for all their hard work in giving our two girls such a containing, safe and fun experience at nursery. Both are learning new things every day. The little one is doing more dance moves, singing and talking. The preschooler is given lots of time to practice her phonics and writing, both are enjoying themselves. The staff have also made great efforts to update photos on the app, which as parents, we have really loved seeing.
Excellent in every way. Our eldest daughter has been going here for 3.5 years and loves it. She has developed so well and is well and truly ready for school! Our youngest also goes and has settled in really well. Thoroughly recommend this nursery.
Overall, we very happy with the nursery, and we highly recommend it.
All three of our children have been through Grasshoppers St Albans over the past 15 years and so we have seen this nursery develop over time. It has the benefit of being part of a larger professional company able to flex to different needs and draw upon expertise, structures and the professional approach that Childbase take. Despite being part of a larger infrastructure, Grasshoppers feels like it’s a local, community-based nursery. Its location next to the park is brilliant and the management use many facilities - the children are regularly outdoors. There are constantly new things going on, creative activities and exciting things -including visits to the local care home. The learning is structured, supportive and fun. The staff are very well trained, knowledgeable and have clear policies in place. Grasshoppers have helped develop my son into a boy who is now ready for school, although he will miss all of the staff who he loves dearly and considers to be part of his family.
The staff are just incredible - they’ve become a real extension of our family, and are so warm, loving, and genuinely care for every child they look after.
The environment is perfect for every age group with a huge range of toys, activities and outside space, and the team really support every child to achieve their full potential, and individualise their care based on their own social, emotional and overall developmental needs.
The communication between nursery and parents is great - we’re kept up to speed with their day to day activities and progress and are always aware of what their individual areas of focus are.
They also have a great menu that gives all the children, including my daughter with multiple severe allergies a varied and inclusive healthy balanced diet.
We will be devastated to leave when my daughter moves to school in September!
I am so happy to take her into the nursery, she is so excited and happy to go in there, staff is so welcoming.
Communication between nursery and home is brilliant. Extra activities such as gym and french lessons are really appreciated, she comes home talking about them often. The staff are warm, personable and reliable. It feels like a safe, enriching and fun place for her to be before the gauntlet of school. I think it is great that Grasshoppers think ahead to school as well; with school uniforms to play dress-up in, practice carrying lunch trays etc. I work in a reception class and I can see how useful these practical skills are when children start.
Flexible pickups and being open all-year-round are not something we needed but I can' pretend they haven't been useful. Our daughter was actually begging to go in for a couple of days over Christmas.
We have used Grasshoppers Day Nursery for my son and then my daughter as well, and have loved them being here, together for a period then graduating on. The recent refurbishment has enhanced what was already a great place. The staff have all been amazing, their patients and creativity in their activities and excursions have enhanced their learning. It will be very sad when they have both moved on!
I have been very happy overall with the standard of care and service we have received from Grasshoppers over the past three years. Both my daughter and son have enjoyed the range of activities on offer and the attention they have received from the staff across the different rooms. There is a strong family feel to the nursery and you can rest assured that the children are well looked after and entertained throughout the day.
The improvements to the rooms and gardens have transformed what was a small space, to a much brighter open and flowing area. The trips to the care home have thoroughly been enjoyed by all. We have always felt our daughter’s interests were taken care off.
Grasshoppers nursery is a lovely friendly place, which care for and help children to grow. I have a little girl who loves to play in water and sand, exploring different areas of the room and garden. She has bonded well with the staff and they have made settling her into nursery look easy.
We would definitely recommend this nursery in a heartbeat. Both my children now aged six and four had such a lovely home from home experience and the staff have been truly amazing with our kids. Staff are caring and nurturing and were on hand for support when needed. The nursery also made sure there was a variety of key activities for the kids - my little one loved learning Mandarin. Thank you for being a great nursery.
My daughter had a good time at the Grasshoppers.
She got attached to the key carers so I knew she’s well looked after.
Every time we picked her up she was happy and said that enjoyed the time at the nursery.
Thank you very much for all care and support.
My daughter (currently in Pre-School) has been attending Grasshoppers for over three years and my son (10 months old) has just joined the nursery (in Caterpillars). Grasshoppers has provided a nurturing, secure, and happy environment for my daughter since she was 8 months old. She has formed strong relationships with both staff and other children at the nursery and is always excited to tell us what she's been doing or learning about at pre-school. The facilities, rooms, and gardens are fantastic and much improved since the refurbishment. Although my son has only just started at Grasshoppers, I've found that the induction and 'settle' process is even better than it was when my daughter started, and he already seems comfortable there. New management has implemented some excellent changes across the board.
My son has just had his last day at Grasshoppers and I could honestly not imagine a better nursery for him for the past 3 years. My daughter went to Grasshoppers too and it has always felt like family. You can tell from when you walk in it's a happy, nurturing environment for the children, the staff are all so caring and tend to stay for a long time which means consistent care (and always a friendly face for parents too!). The facilities are lovely, with a huge variety of toys and activities for the children. The staff work hard to provide some brilliant extra activities, with trips to the park, the local care home, and butterflies hatching in Preschool to name a few. My son has food allergies and they're very diligent both with food safety and in ensuring the processes they follow are up to date. We are sad that our Grasshoppers time has ended, but we know that our children have had a wonderful time at nursery, made some good friends and been really well prepared for the years ahead.

The nursery has a very welcoming, homely feel, and the rooms have been designed and furnished to meet the children's developmental needs. We have a large preschool room and lovely garden areas.
I am really impressed with the team's partnership with parents and the relationships they form with them.
